Chapter 81, Third Update

“Impossible,” Old Huang said, deeply disappointed. “He said his home is in town.”

“Brother,” Huang Xiaosan pursed his lips, “that person shouldn’t be from town.”

"Why not?" Old Huang scratched his head. "The accent is exactly like ours."

"Most people in town are in business; there are only a few farming families, and they only have a few female cows, no males."

"Well," Jiang Nuan said, looking at the angry crowd, "Bulls are good too. They're strong and powerful, good at working, and can be used as breeding bulls. They're pretty much the same."

"Stop dreaming," Old Man Jiang said irritably, "This ox has already been castrated."

"Castrated?" Jiang Nuan was momentarily stunned. After realizing what she meant, she asked incredulously, "You can castrate a cow?"

“Why not?” Old Man Jiang sighed. “That’s how they grow faster.”

"That damned cattle dealer has no conscience at all."

With her livelihood through breeding cut off, Old Lady Jiang was furious, her face turning ashen.

“Our little Liu is so pitiful,” Huang Xiaosi said, glancing at the ox with sympathy. “How did such a perfectly good ox become a eunuch?”

"Fourth Brother, what is a eunuch?" Little Fifth asked with wide, innocent eyes.

"Eunuchs are..."

"Xiao Si, shut up!" Seeing that Huang Xiao Si was really going to teach Xiao Wu common sense, Grandma Jiang quickly scolded, "Xiao Wu is a girl, don't say such nonsense."

“Yes,” Jiang Nuan nodded in agreement, “Xiao Wu is still a seedling, and we need to take good care of it.”

"Fourth Brother is bad, I'm ignoring you." Xiao Wu stuck out her tongue at Huang Xiao Si and snuggled into Jiang Nuan's arms.

“You…” Huang Xiaosi clenched his fists, rolled his eyes, turned his head away, and stopped talking.

That brat Xiao Wu is getting more and more outrageous.

My mother already doted on me, and now my maternal grandmother is protecting me too. I hope I don't get out of control.

This little tagalong has really grown up; she's not even afraid of me leaving her alone anymore.

Thinking of this, Huang Xiaosi felt a pang of jealousy.

Before, Xiao Wu would follow me around all day, which was incredibly annoying. I tried every possible way to get rid of her.

These past few days, with no one around me, I've actually felt a bit uneasy.

Thinking of this, Huang Xiaosi quickly patted his head.

What are you thinking? It's a good thing that the brat isn't following me. She's so small and spoiled. She cries after a few scoldings, and after a few steps she clings to me for a piggyback ride. She also loves to tattle...

Even with these thoughts, the bitterness in her heart did not lessen. She glared fiercely at Xiao Wu, who was hiding in Jiang Nuan's arms, and proudly raised her chin.

"Mother," Huang Laoda said anxiously as everyone changed the subject, "What about the ox? Do we still want it?"

“Of course we want it,” Jiang Nuan said, pointing at Huang Xiaosi. “He said this cow is our family’s sixth son. How can we return it just because of a minor physical defect?”

“That’s not the reason,” Huang Lao Er said indignantly. “It’s clearly because we lost too much money.”

“No matter what, the cow is already at our house,” Jiang Nuan said, spreading her hands. “We can’t return it, and we’d lose money if we sold it. It’s best for it to stay with us.”

"Big brother, second brother," Huang Xiaosan also chimed in, "Selling this cow isn't worthwhile, and even if you wanted to, it wouldn't be easy to sell."

Unless the price is very low.

But in doing so, their family lost too much money.

It's better to take good care of it and let it do more work, at least to reduce some of the losses.

“That’s right,” Old Huang nodded in agreement. “Keep it. We still need it for work. Spring plowing is coming soon.”
