"Mother," Xie was moved that her efforts were understood. "The prescription was your idea. We only did the work. You earned the money, so you can use it however you want."
"Second sister-in-law," Wang said softly, "the work we did wasn't worth Mother saying that."
“That’s right,” Jin Shi outside the door chimed in. “Mother treats us like her own daughters, always giving us the best food and clothes. What’s a little cabbage chopping for us? Which daughter-in-law doesn’t do chores?”
Ms. Jin never imagined that she would meet such a good mother-in-law, even better than her own mother.
She made a big mistake and thought she would be blamed when she got home, but she never expected that her mother-in-law would really not care when she said she didn't.
If she had known this would happen, she should have confessed sooner, Jin said with a look of regret.
Life in the county town wasn't as good as others imagined. Her husband was busy every day and didn't come home until late at night. She was alone in the yard, with no one to talk to.
Unlike now, even if she's a little tired, she's happy.
"A bunch of idiots," Jiang Nuan said helplessly. "Oh well, since you're my daughters-in-law, I can only worry about you and protect you."
"Thank you, Mother!"
The three of them laughed in unison.
Amidst their laughter, a knock came at the door. Jin washed her hands and opened it. "It must be my father. Why aren't you giving up?"
"You little brat," the shopkeeper Jin outside the door said angrily, "I raised you for nothing, and now that you're married, you're siding with outsiders."
“Father,” Jin said, pursing her lips, “I am now a member of the Huang family, and my allegiance is with the Huang family.”
“Then I’m your father too,” Manager Jin tapped his daughter on the head. “Go and make me some tea, the kind we had last time.”
“You’re so picky,” Jiang Nuan shook her head. “That was top-grade Longjing tea that Han Yi sent over. There were only two ounces of it. It would be a waste to give it to you.”
"How did I ruin it?" Manager Jin exploded. "Isn't tea meant to be drunk? Am I not worthy to drink it?"
“Dad, you’re not drinking,” Jin wrinkled her nose, “you’re guzzling it down like a cow.”
Who drinks tea in one gulp without thinking? It's not like it's alcohol.
It's such a waste for Dad to drink such good tea.
"Go quickly," Manager Jin threatened, raising his hand. "Just the same kind as last time. I don't like any other drinks."
He knew there were many intricacies to drinking tea, and since these were all his own people, he didn't want to pretend anymore.
When discussing business, he drinks tea in a very refined manner.
A bunch of ignorant women!
“Okay, okay,” Jin stuck out her tongue, “I’ll go right now.”
“Old fox,” Jiang Nuan knew that Manager Jin wouldn’t come without a reason, so she washed her hands and came out. “I can’t possibly agree to what you asked for last time, so just give up.”
Shameless old woman, she's already eyeing her little one when he's so young.
She's well-mannered for not chasing people out with a broom.
Upon hearing this, Manager Jin awkwardly touched his nose. "I was just joking last time, please don't mind, Mother-in-law. What kind of relationship do we have? Xiao Wu is my own niece. I wish she would get married at twenty."
"Pah," Madam Xie spat lightly, "You didn't say that last time, what 'a good man doesn't wait for anyone,' 'get settled down sooner so someone can dote on Xiao Wu'..."
That old man, his skin is getting thicker and thicker.
Little Wu was only a tiny little boy when he started thinking about it. Even after being scolded so badly by his mother last time, he still went to her house anyway.
"Just kidding, just kidding." Manager Jin coughed twice and strode into the hall.
The women in the Huang family are becoming increasingly fierce; he's starting to find them difficult to deal with.
