Chapter 48 Bloodshed and New Business

Jiang Shumiao cleared her throat. "Kneel down."

A group of little brats knelt down in unison, leaving their parents speechless.

Jiang Shumiao thought for a moment that an apology should be sincere, so she said again, "Raise your hands, palms up."

What are we supposed to do?

Chen Xunzhi was also puzzled.

The children all listened to Jiang Shumiao and did as she said.

Jiang Shumiao made a hand seal, and countless golden lights flashed, and the children all had a cup of tea appear out of thin air in their hands.

Chen Xunzhi's eyelids twitched.

He understood.

Sure enough, the next moment Jiang Shumiao said, "This student knows his mistake, apologizes to the teacher, and invites the teacher to have some tea."

A group of people, like tape recorders, raised their teacups and repeated the words.

Chen Xunzhi: "..."

The parents understood. Liu Chengyuan suppressed a laugh and whispered to Jiang Zhixu, "Lord Jiang, the princess didn't do it on purpose, did she?"

Twenty people, twenty cups of tea, drinking them one by one... what a scene...

Jiang Zhixu said in a serious tone, "What do you mean by 'deliberately'? My daughter's sincerity is what I call genuine affection."

Yes, truly sincere.

Chen Xunzhi didn't move for a long time.

Jiang Shumiao asked in confusion, "Master?"

Jiang Zhixu coughed lightly, "Old Chen, I think the children are quite sincere, they've already knelt down, how about we have them kowtow to you again?"

Jiang Shumiao was particularly quick-witted. "Teacher, please wait a moment. I'll go out and say hello, lest this school be chopped up later."

Chen Xunzhi immediately recalled the sudden lightning strike on the day he became an apprentice and quickly stopped him, saying, "No need."

Jiang Shumiao, who was already standing on one leg, looked at him with a puzzled expression.

Chen Xunzhi said he didn't want to be struck by lightning.

He glanced outside instinctively, but there was no movement.

I breathed a sigh of relief.

"Since you both know you were wrong, let's let today's matter rest, but you must not repeat it in the future."

Jiang Zhixu quickly said, "Aren't you going to thank the teacher for his forgiveness?"

Jiang Shumiao took the lead and said loudly, "Thank you for your forgiveness, Master."

Chen Xunzhi had a headache and waved his hand.

"School's out."

Jiang Shumiao thoughtfully added, "Master, you haven't had your tea yet."

The children all nodded in agreement.

"Please have some tea, Master."

They were caught in a dilemma.

Chen Xunzhi's lips twitched. "No need, I'm not thirsty."

Someone couldn't help but laugh out loud.

Chen Xunzhi walked out with a dark expression.

Jiang Shumiao chased after him to the door, saying, "Master, don't take the carriage home today, or you'll suffer a bloody disaster."

Chen Xunzhi paused, then quickened his pace.

Jiang Zhixu held her daughter's hand and asked, "Miaomiao, what you just said was true?"

Jiang Shumiao nodded seriously, her expression very solemn.

“He faced a calamity today. This morning, a myna bird almost pecked his eye, but I managed to avert it. However, since it is a calamity, it will inevitably come to pass. Therefore, he will definitely face danger on his way home.”

Jiang Zhixu then ordered his guards to follow. The old scholar was getting on in years; if anything happened to him, it would be disastrous.

Is it serious?

Jiang Shumiao thought for a moment, "He's not in mortal danger. He'll live longer than you, but he might break his leg."

Jiang Zhixu: "..."

Chen Xunzhi didn't take Jiang Shumiao's words to heart, mainly because this child usually liked to play pranks on people.

He soon got his comeuppance.

As they passed Yongxing Street, a child suddenly appeared out of nowhere to pick something up, and the driver quickly reined in his horse.

The child's mother rushed out, grabbed him, and rolled quickly to the side.

The child was so frightened that he burst into tears.

Fortunately, nothing else went wrong.

Chen Xunzhi's heart skipped a beat as he remembered Jiang Shumiao's words. Just as he was about to tell the driver to stop, he felt the carriage shake.

He lifted the bamboo strips, about to ask a question, when suddenly his whole body tilted outwards.

A figure flashed past and caught him just as he was about to fall.

The coachman rushed forward, "Sir, are you injured?"

"fine."

Chen Xunzhi, still shaken, dusted off his sleeves before turning around to express his gratitude, "Thank you so much for saving me, brave warrior. May I ask your name?"

The other party clasped his hands in greeting and said, "I am Pei Shu, a bodyguard of the Duke of Anguo, and I have been ordered to protect you, sir."

Chen Xunzhi was taken aback.

Pei Shu said, "Now that you are unharmed, I will return to report."

Recalling the close call, Chen Xunzhi asked the driver, "What happened just now?"

The driver wiped his sweat and pointed to the overturned cart. The oranges scattered on the ground had almost all been picked up by passersby. The vendor, while shouting "Don't pick them up!", knelt down and begged for mercy. His tattered clothes and the bloodstains on his hands turned into bitter sweat and tears, hanging on his face.

"The horse was startled and sped up, then crashed into this vendor, so..."

Seeing the vendor's face filled with panic and despair, Chen Xunzhi knew that this cart of oranges was probably his family's livelihood, so he went forward and helped him up.

The vendor was flattered.

"grown ups…"

Chen Xunzhi said kindly, "Don't be afraid, it was my horse that knocked over your oranges, you did nothing wrong."

The driver, quite astutely, took out a few loose silver coins and handed them to the vendor.

"This money is our compensation for the oranges and medical expenses you received. It was my recklessness just now, and I hope you will forgive me."

The vendor thought he had offended a powerful person and might lose his life, but he never expected to receive compensation. He was about to kneel down again when the driver stopped him.

"Go back and buy some food for the child."

The vendor was extremely grateful and moved to tears.

"Thank you, sir. Thank you, sir."

He was clearly wronged, yet he turned around and thanked the other party.

The difference between the noble and the lowly is as vast as an insurmountable chasm.

The men of Chenxun dared not ride in a carriage again and walked back.

On the other side, Pei Shu was reporting the events that had just occurred on the street to Jiang Zhixu when Jiang Shumiao asked, "Master, were you injured?"
