While flying on her sword, Jiang Shumiao sensed the presence of gods and demons in the lower realm. She immediately descended and saw a group of gods attacking a child.
The sword was drawn from its sheath, and its divine light shone brightly.
The battle ended with a single sword strike.
The gods retreated or fell, all staring at her in horror.
"Azure Lotus Saint Venerable!"
The child stood there, stunned, his body stiff, wanting to escape but unable to move.
Jiang Shumiao glanced at him.
Hmm, she's the same age as when we first met, but her circumstances have changed drastically.
Before, it was being beaten by a mob; now, it's one person fighting against a whole group of gods.
"The gods have really shown some talent; a group of immortals are bullying a child."
The nine gods did not look too good.
The leading deity, Guangci, spoke up: "Back then, during the great war between gods and demons, the Holy Venerable Qinglian was able to put righteousness above family ties and personally kill this demon. Why are you intervening to save him today?"
Jiang Shumiao slapped him across the face from a distance.
With a loud slap, imbued with divine power, the God of Compassion was directly knocked to the ground.
Jiang Shumiao coldly said, "Who do you think you are, daring to question me?"
Guangci was horrified.
Jiang Shumiao was resurrected in a mortal body and was born before she was full term. Her soul should have been unstable, so why did she recover so quickly? Moreover... she seems to have grown divine bones.
With the birth of divine bones, his cultivation progressed by leaps and bounds.
He couldn't help but shiver.
The other deities all showed expressions of fear.
When Jiang Shumiao first ascended to the Heavenly Palace, she was already twenty thousand years old, invincible throughout the four seas, and even the Heavenly Emperor gave her a wide berth. But now she is only five years old, yet she has summoned Cang Yuan back. Has that chaotic power already awakened?
"Your Majesty's tribulation this time has disrupted the rules and destiny. Whether you yourself are at fault or not, you should not alter the destiny of others, otherwise wouldn't the order of the three realms of Heaven, Earth, and Man collapse?"
Jiang Shumiao: "The last person who said this had his immortal power sealed by me and was reduced to a mortal. It seems you want to try it too."
One of them exclaimed, "The Immortal Lord Shaoyu has not returned yet, all because of you!"
Jiang Shumiao didn't waste any words with him and directly extracted his soul.
"I originally wanted to have a good talk with Junyi, but now it seems there's no need."
The power of chaos locked everyone in place, rendering them completely immobile and unable to even cry for help; only terrified faces remained.
Jiang Shumiao crushed their souls one by one, and then they vanished into thin air.
She looked at the boy who had remained silent.
"Long time no see, Seon-yeon."
Seon-yeon's knees buckled, and he knelt down.
"Master."
Jiang Shumiao didn't wake her up. She looked at her disciple, her heart filled with mixed feelings.
Why have you been avoiding me?
Shanyuan dared not raise his head, his childish voice full of grievance, "Back then, when Master expelled his disciple from the sect, he said that he regretted taking me as his disciple and only wished never to see me again."
When they met again, they faced each other with swords drawn.
Seon-yeon didn't dodge that sword strike at all.
He was willing to die at his master's hands.
Jiang Shumiao remained silent for a long time, then sighed softly, "I don't regret saving you, nor do I regret taking you as my disciple. I only regret not teaching you well."
Seon-yeon's eyes reddened.
He looked up at Jiang Shumiao. The master he used to look up to had become a five-year-old child, yet he would still protect him, even at the cost of being an enemy of the God Realm.
"Master."
Shanyuan finally couldn't control himself. He crawled a few steps on his knees, hugged her tightly, and said in a choked voice, "Your disciple missed you so much."
"Live in a good place, keep your heart deep, associate with good people, speak with integrity, govern well, be capable in your work, and act at the right time." Jiang Shumiao spoke after a long while, saying, "When I gave you this name, I hoped that you would have a broad mind and be calm and open-minded. Do you still remember?"
Sun-yeon nodded.
"Remember."
Jiang Shumiao then asked, "Why did you instigate the war between gods and demons back then?"
When she emerged from the pass, she witnessed strange phenomena in the heavens and earth, and the common people were plunged into misery. The grave mistake had already been made, and there was no need to undo its causes. But she remembered that when Shanyuan died, he had a smile on his face.
Although this child is stubborn, he is not a bad person.
She always knew.
Seon-yeon froze, slowly loosened his grip, and lowered his head without saying a word.
Jiang Shumiao frowned, recalling the words the dragon demon had spoken before its death, and asked, "What did Jun Yi use to threaten you?"
Shanyuan lowered his head even further and said in a muffled voice, "Shanyuan knows that his sins are grave, but he leaves it to Master to decide what to do."
Jiang Shumiao, in a sudden flash of inspiration, thought of a possibility and blurted out, "He knows the reason why I expelled you?"
Sun-yeon's fingers, hanging by her side, unconsciously curled up and then relaxed.
He didn't say anything, but Jiang Shumiao already understood.
The idea that cultivators in traditional Chinese novels often engage in master-disciple romances is not entirely fictional.
This little brat in front of me is one of them.
Jiang Shumiao deeply hated those immortals who regarded love as everything and were willing to sacrifice the common people. But one day, she discovered that her beloved disciple had also developed such thoughts, and the object of his affections was none other than herself.
I was absolutely furious.
I teach you the Great Dao, but you want to fall in love with me?
She almost stabbed Sun-yeon to death with her sword, but she couldn't bring herself to do it because of the years of teacher-student relationship. Instead, she said many harsh and resolute words and expelled Sun-yeon from the sect.
Afterwards, she went into seclusion to reflect on whether she had taught the wrong thing.
Seon-yeon was born from the union of a human and a demon. Although the demon realm lacked those corrupt rules, it, like the gods, valued bloodlines and refused to accept this 'hybrid monster'. When his mother gave birth to him, her soul scattered, and he was considered an omen of misfortune, nearly dying by fire. Since the fire couldn't kill him, he was abandoned in the mountains and nearly starved to death. It was only thanks to a tree spirit that had cultivated for hundreds of years, feeding him dew daily, that he survived.
But it was only two years.
The tree demon failed to withstand the heavenly lightning when it transformed into human form.
The two-year-old boy became an orphan and grew up alone until he was five, when he encountered a powerful demon. In a life-or-death situation, he briefly awakened his human-demon bloodline, but suffered a backlash and alarmed the divine realm.
