Side Story 2: Appearance at the Ancestral Hall

The entire Wen family gathered in the ancestral hall, each with a solemn and respectful expression.

"Wen Zhixuan, the 167th generation disciple of the Wen family, is fortunate to have seen the ancestral instructions and respectfully requests the Holy One to appear and resolve the calamity on earth."

The longevity tablet of the Azure Lotus Saint has stood in the Wen family ancestral hall for five thousand years, worshipped generation after generation, and never left unattended even during times of war.

As for why there are no statues of gods?

It's not that the Wen family isn't sincere; it's just that they have no other choice.

It is said that a family was punished by heaven for committing too many evils. They wanted to worship the statue of the Blue Lotus Saint to seek protection and change their luck, but instead, they were attacked.

Since then, no one has been able to sculpt her image without the Holy One's permission.

When the Wen family ancestors were studying Taoism, the Holy One had already fallen into a deep sleep and had not yet given any instructions. Wen Lingyi dared not overstep his bounds, and in order to repay the kindness, he could only offer a longevity tablet to the Holy One as a warning to future generations.

Now that the spiritual energy on earth is recovering, according to the ancestral teachings, the Holy Venerable should awaken.

Wen Zhixuan stared intently at the longevity tablet in the center. It wasn't that no one in the Wen family hadn't tried to invoke the gods, but all attempts had failed. At first, they thought it was due to a lack of talent, but later they learned that the divine race seemed to have perished.

The Holy Venerable has a deep entanglement with the Wen family, and it's unknown whether he will show himself.

The ancestral hall was completely silent.

Then a golden light shone, and a phantom gradually solidified, appearing before him.

The childish voice carried a hint of surprise.

"Wen Zhixuan, it really is you?"

Wen Zhixuan was stunned.

Has he successfully summoned a god? But why is the Holy One a little girl?

The others were also stunned for a moment, and then became very excited.

"The ancestral teachings are indeed true; the Holy One has awakened." The Wen family head was almost in tears. "The Wen family is saved, and humanity is saved."

No one questioned Jiang Shumiao's identity.

That pure and powerful divine force was absolutely genuine.

It is said that when gods descend to earth, they can take on different forms, and even their gender can change, let alone their age.

Jiang Shumiao had just woken up when she heard the believer calling her, and she didn't expect it to be someone she knew.

By the time Wen Zhixuan came to his senses, he had already followed Jiang Shumiao down the mountain—or rather, he was going to guide this little darling. The little darling said that she had been unconscious for too long, and the world was no longer what it used to be; she had a poor sense of direction and needed a human navigator.

"Holy Lord, where are we going?"

Jiang Shumiao held a cup of milk tea, took a big sip of the tapioca pearls, and said while chewing, "Human civilization has developed rapidly in recent years, and technology has risen. Metaphysics is regarded as feudal superstition, but the fact that the Wen family has been able to stand firm shows that the country has not taken a one-size-fits-all approach to this."

Wen Zhixuan nodded, "The country has special departments."

Jiang Shumiao: "They are the ones I'm looking for."

Wen Zhixuan asked, puzzled, "Why?"

Jiang Shumiao glanced at him. "Didn't your grandfather foresee a catastrophe about to befall humanity? It was caused by the island nation's plan to discharge some kind of nuclear wastewater into the ocean. I don't really understand it, but the Goddess Nuwa said that it would be extremely harmful, causing the extinction of marine life, various diseases for humans, and some countries would even aid and abet the evil, spreading rumors and inciting conflicts between nations. Within three years, a world war would break out. That nuclear weapon seems to be quite powerful."

Wen Zhixuan's expression changed drastically.

A nuclear war could potentially upend the entire world.

"Does the Way of Heaven, which maintains the balance of heaven and earth, not intervene?"

Jiang Shumiao shook her head. "Human beings are divided into races, but the Way of Heaven has no national boundaries. Before the Way of Heaven, all beings are equal. In the eyes of the Way of Heaven, disputes between countries are like children quarreling in the family, which are not a big deal."

Wen Zhixuan frowned.

"But this is no small matter."

Jiang Shumiao then gave him another example: "A girl was walking home late at night after working overtime when she was followed. She reported it to the authorities, and the man dropped a dagger. But he didn't commit the crime. Can the authorities convict him of attempted murder?"

That's definitely not possible; at most, it would be a warning.

Wen Zhixuan was speechless for a long time before saying, "We should call the police."

Jiang Shumiao: "..."

Is this the key point?

Are you mocking her for being out of touch with the times?

She's been asleep for five thousand years. The world has changed so much. She still has to adapt slowly.

Jiang Shumiao took another big gulp of milk tea, her cheeks puffed out.

Wen Zhixuan, oblivious to her subtle emotions, pondered for a moment and said, "So you mean that since nothing has happened yet, Heaven will not intervene?"

"Otherwise what? Have you ever calculated how many people would die if a single bolt of lightning struck down from the heavens?"

Jiang Shumiao's eyes held a hint of pity.

Wen Zhixuan fell silent again, his tone somewhat grave, "But once everything has happened, it will be too late."

"That's why I'm here, isn't it?"

Jiang Shumiao threw the milk tea cup into the trash can and said, "By eliminating the source of evil, we can avert catastrophe."

Wen Zhixuan's eyelids twitched. "You're not going to wipe out the island nation, are you?"

As a Chinese person, I am naturally happy to see this happen.

As cultivators, we believe all beings are equal. Would Heaven allow such slaughter?

He forgot what his ancestors had said: the man before him dared to slaughter even the gods.

Jiang Shumiao glanced at him again and said nonchalantly, "Don't worry, Heaven won't dare to strike me down."

That's why the goddess Nuwa sent her down to the mortal realm; only she could quell the matter without any qualms.

Wen Zhixuan stared in disbelief.

Jiang Shumiao continued, seemingly oblivious to her own words: "We'll go find the special departments now and bring back all the Chinese stranded in the island nation. Hmm, we also need to negotiate with other countries, making sure no innocent people get hurt."

This is a huge project.

Wen Zhixuan then asked, "Other countries may not cooperate."

“Although a person’s birth is predetermined, their life circumstances are full of twists and turns. If you can’t grasp them, then it’s all in the past.” Jiang Shumiao said calmly, “The Tao follows nature, and cause and effect complement each other. You are still young, so take it easy and don’t be too stubborn. If you get stuck in a dead end, your Tao heart will be damaged.”

At eighteen, Wen Zhixuan had not yet experienced those dark times, nor had he been persecuted by villains.

He was a chosen one, the hope of his family.

He was upright and righteous, with a strong sense of justice.

Before coming to the human world, Jiang Shumiao had been to the underworld and learned from Fengdu that Wen Zhixuan had made great contributions during that catastrophe and died saving her sister.

The flower spirit born from Shen Qinghe's obsession dissipated, and her true form returned to the River of Oblivion.

Finally, the spider lilies returned to one.

Five thousand years of restoration and atonement, coupled with the merits accumulated by Wen Zhixuan during his lifetime, finally led to his reincarnation.

Many people died in that war.

Including the Shen family, Shen Jiming spent his whole life scheming and plotting, and in the end, he used his own life to pave a broad road for his son.

Wen Lingyi later became the Imperial Preceptor, partly to commemorate his late father and partly to help his uncle.

His adopted son, the upright patriarch of the Wen family, was Shen Xubai's son.

The bloodlines of the Wen and Chen families continued in another form, which can perhaps be considered a kind of fulfillment.

As for the Jiang family, although they no longer have her protection, Jiang Zhixu is a national hero, Jiang Shuman is also a female general, and Jiang Yiqing and Jiang Yining have both entered the court as officials, benefiting the country and its people.

May your wealth and honor continue, and may your remaining years be smooth and prosperous.

The only regret is that she never properly said goodbye to them.
