Xiao Yuhan glared at her, "You still dare to talk!"
Miao Xiaodie immediately lowered her head and stopped talking, as if she was still not satisfied.
Just then, there was a knock at the door. Bai Yao pushed the door open and entered, carrying the prepared food. Xiao Yuhan frowned the moment he saw Bai Yao, then looked out the window, his mood incredibly complicated.
When Bai Yao saw Miao Xiaodie, she suddenly said, "Junior Sister Aru, you're here too! Come sit down and eat with us!"
Miao Xiaodie nodded, suddenly transforming into an innocent and carefree little girl, "Okay, Senior Sister Yao Yao!"
"Master! It's time to eat!" Bai Yao looked at Xiao Yuhan. She felt that her master was acting strangely today, but she couldn't quite put her finger on what was wrong. However, her master seemed to no longer look directly at her, and his gaze was very evasive.
"Master? What's wrong?"
Xiao Yuhan let out a long sigh of relief, then returned to her usual demeanor and sat down at the table.
In front of Bai Yao, Miao Xiaodie always pretended to be a little girl. She picked up her chopsticks and took a couple of bites. Then she looked at Bai Yao happily and said, "Senior Sister Yao's cooking is so good! It's just like my mother's!"
Upon hearing this, Bai Yao froze on the spot. As if she had thought of something, a tender look flashed in her eyes as she looked at Miao Xiaodie and said, "Junior Sister Aru, eat more if you like. If it's not enough, Senior Sister will make you more!"
Xiao Yuhan frowned, feeling very nervous. He wondered what kind of trouble Miao Xiaodie was up to, and immediately coughed twice to try to remind her not to talk nonsense.
Unexpectedly, Miao Xiaodie didn't care what Xiao Yuhan thought and turned around to say, "Father! Are you feeling unwell?"
Xiao Yuhan looked at her with a hint of mockery in her eyes; this girl was clearly provoking him.
But all he could say was, "Cough cough... I'm fine."
"Is Master's injury any better?" Bai Yao suddenly asked.
Xiao Yuhan waved her hand and said, "It's nothing, I just choked."
"Father hasn't drunk anything yet, how could he choke?" Miao Xiaodie turned to look at Xiao Yuhan.
"Can't I even choke on my own saliva?" Xiao Yuhan glared fiercely at Miao Xiaodie.
Bai Yao was a little confused. She thought to herself, "Isn't Xiao Ru my master's daughter? Why does my master seem to treat his daughter like this? He was always so gentle in my memory."
However, seeing Xiao Yuhan preparing to pick up his chopsticks, Bai Yao didn't think much of it and said, "Master, please try it!"
Looking at the few dishes on the table, Xiao Yuhan was inexplicably moved. Two or three dishes, a quiet room, and the cold wind blowing in through the crack in the door—this moment of tranquility after the great battle allowed him to relax.
He could no longer distinguish whether it was the joy of surviving a disaster or the fact that Bai Yao was still sitting safely in front of him, just like before. He didn't want anything to break the tranquility of the moment.
Gradually, Xiao Yuhan became uneasy, because what Miao Xiaodie had said earlier seemed to be true; she really did rely on this tranquility.
Could it be... that I really do like Bai Yao?
She's my apprentice, shouldn't I treat her well?
But why would Miao Xiaodie think he liked Bai Yao? He didn't understand, and became even more silent, just eating his meal with his head down, looking preoccupied.
Bai Yao had been by Xiao Yuhan's side for many years and could tell at a glance that Xiao Yuhan had something on his mind.
"Master, what's wrong? Are you still feeling unwell?"
The moment Xiao Yuhan looked up and saw Bai Yao, for some reason, the guilt in his heart grew stronger. She was his disciple, a little girl who was only fourteen years old. How could he have developed such feelings for her?
Is it really because my own cultivation is insufficient?
Come to think of it, it makes sense. I'm not really Xiao Yuhan, and my mental age isn't much older than this girl's, so it's understandable that I'm emotional.
But now I am Xiao Yuhan, with my own stance and responsibilities. If I really have any thoughts that I shouldn't have, I should nip them in the bud as soon as possible.
Thinking of this, Xiao Yuhan felt even more uneasy, so he sighed and said, "I'm fine, let's eat!"
He ate very quickly and finished the food on the table in no time.
"I need to go to the Heavenly Sword Hall. You should eat and get some rest!"
After saying that, Xiao Yuhan put down his chopsticks and got up. Bai Yao felt increasingly uneasy. She didn't know what was wrong with her master. Watching his back recede into the distance, she gradually frowned.
