In the decades that followed, there was no system, no terrifying enemies from the Heavenly Demon Abyss, only peace and tranquility. Xiao Yuhan's eyes became numb. Perhaps he still had a last bit of persistence in his heart, but at this moment he lived peacefully in this illusion, enjoying every moment of tranquility.
You can no longer tell from his eyes whether his will has been extinguished.
Sometimes she would drink tea and discuss the Dao with her senior brother, the sect leader; sometimes she would learn swordsmanship from her senior brother, Liu Jiantang, at the Sword Tomb in the back mountain; sometimes she would meditate with her third senior sister, Shen Huairu, in the Shoujing Hall; and sometimes she would stroll leisurely with her junior sister. Bai Yao also grew up day by day, becoming a graceful and beautiful young woman.
The twelve years I spent in the Heavenly Sword Sect felt so unreal compared to the decades I've been in this illusion, like something that happened in a dream last night. Then, several hundred years passed, and my senior brother, the sect leader, passed away. All his fellow disciples went to see him off on his final journey.
He said that life is like this, it's just about parting ways, there's no need to dwell on joys and sorrows, separations and reunions.
Later, Senior Brother Liu Jiantang was heartbroken and left the sect to travel the world. Decades later, Third Senior Sister Shen Huairu failed to break through to the next realm and died in the Heavenly Tribulation. In the end, she still did not understand what the painting that Li Wenruo sent back meant.
Now, Xiao Yuhan is very old, sitting in the courtyard with a full head of white hair.
Today, bad news came from Lotus Platform: Junior Sister's old injury from the backlash of Heaven's Dao has relapsed. Xiao Yuhan went to Junior Sister's bedside and saw her staring at him intently as she lay dying. At that moment, Xiao Yuhan seemed to remember something.
Yes, Junior Sister was once attacked by the Heavenly Dao... But... what caused the backlash?
He couldn't understand it. Watching his junior sister slowly stop breathing, his expression was blank. He didn't know if he was used to life and death in this illusion or if he couldn't distinguish between reality and illusion. He just murmured, "If my junior sister really died in front of me, perhaps I would shed tears for her?"
As soon as she finished speaking, two lines of clear tears streamed down her face.
At this moment, he was utterly heartbroken; this was not what he wanted.
Finally, the time came when he had to say goodbye to this life. Bai Yao stayed by his bedside and asked softly, "Master... have you ever thought for a moment about spending your life with Yao'er?"
Xiao Yuhan's eyes were unfocused. "Now, haven't we already lived our lives to the fullest? How utterly boring..."
"Master, sleep well. When you wake up, Yao'er will still be by your side..."
When this life came to an end and Xiao Yuhan opened his eyes again, he returned to that pitch-black space, and heard the voices of those familiar people in his ears.
"Xiao Yuhan, do you want to start over? Do you want to keep the people by your side forever?"
Those voices included those of his fellow apprentices, as well as those of everyone he had ever met.
Xiao Yuhan's voice was somewhat low, as if lacking confidence, "No... this is an illusion, I don't want to start over..."
But as soon as he finished speaking, when he opened his eyes again, he found himself in a small thatched hut in the mountains. The mountains were the most tranquil place in the world, with green hills and clear waters, and plants growing in spring.
Ye Qingyun became his eldest brother, and he built a thatched house not far away and settled down. The family of three lived happily. Senior Brother Liu Jiantang became his second brother, and he and Long Xiaoyu became a couple. Third Senior Sister Shen Huairu became the third sister, and she stayed in her room all day playing with poetry, calligraphy and painting. Junior Sister became the little sister, and she was carefree all day long.
Bai Yao became his wife, and the couple tended a farmland, working from sunrise to sunset.
Xiao Yuhan's eyes grew increasingly vacant, like a walking corpse, but seeing the smiling faces of the people around him, a smile reappeared in his expression.
After living in the mountains for several years, he and Bai Yao had their own child. But at the moment the child was born, Bai Yao held the baby and asked him, "Husband, will you leave?"
In a daze, Xiao Yuhan seemed to realize something, rushed out the door, walked to the top of the mountain, raised his hand and summoned the Junmo Sword. At this moment, he seemed to remember something, but quickly forgot it again. His heart was empty, and he could not find anything.
What happened in the past seems like a dream—was it a past life? Or was it real?
He couldn't figure it out, but he knew he could trust the sword in his hand.
At that moment, he picked up his sword. Xiao Yuhan stood alone on the cliff. When he drew his sword, the world changed color. When he sheathed his sword, the moon lost its light.
He suddenly burst into laughter, "Hahaha, so this is Second Brother Liu Jiantang's sword... no! Not Second Brother, but Second Senior Brother!"
Xiao Yuhan closed his eyes, and when he opened them again, he was back in that initial environment, a void. This time, he felt no fear or unease, as if nothing could shake his heart.
But the illusion reformed once again, and he realized that this illusion did not want him to wake up; it wanted him to sink into it and become unable to extricate himself.
The illusion reassembled once again. This time, he arrived at the Spirit Lake in Lingsu City. The girl Bai Yao in front of him had grown into a beautiful young woman. She turned her head and smiled, but her eyes were slightly red. "Master... can Yao'er really not enter your heart?"
Xiao Yuhan said nothing, stepped forward, embraced her, and kissed her.
In this life, he followed his heart and no longer cared about the rules. He did many things that were not appreciated by the world. In the main hall of the Heavenly Sword Sect, he knelt before the statues of the Three Pure Ones and married Bai Yao.
The couple ventured into the Heavenly Demon Abyss, wreaking havoc in all directions, before finally fleeing into the martial world and finding a place to live out their peaceful days.
Over the decades, Xiao Yuhan lived life as he pleased, indulging in it all. Just as this life was about to end, Bai Yao asked once again, "Husband, will you leave?"
