Chapter 102

Gu Rongqi finished writing and put the pen cap back on.

"Rongqi's handwriting is quite good!" Grandpa Cheng praised from the side. "Have you practiced it regularly?"

"When I have time."

At this point, Grandpa Cheng became interested, "So, do you practice with a pen or a brush?"

Gu Rongqi answered truthfully: "I practice both, but I mostly practice calligraphy with a brush."

"Haha, that's great. There aren't many young people who know how to write calligraphy these days," Grandpa Cheng laughed heartily.

“Of course, my brother was taught calligraphy by a master calligrapher when he was a child,” Gu Liji chimed in.

Grandpa Cheng joked, "Really? Then next time you come to visit, help us write some couplets. I'll make you my specialty, Pagoda Pork, which Qicai loved to eat when she was little. But we don't have the ingredients now, otherwise I would let you try it."

Gu Rongqi lowered his eyes and nodded at him, "Okay."

Gu Liji also smiled and said, "Then next time I'll come with my brother to try your signature dishes."

Gu Rongqi glanced at Gu Liji, his expression indifferent, devoid of emotion.

Gu Liji inexplicably felt that he was somewhat displeased, but by the time he looked more closely, Gu Rongqi had already looked elsewhere.

He scratched his head and maneuvered his wheelchair to another part of the yard.

"Qicai, go pick some vegetables from the garden," Grandma Cheng called out as she walked out of the house.

"Okay," Cheng Qicai replied, picked up the basket on the steps, and prepared to head to the vegetable garden.

Gu Rongqi followed her outside, saying, "I'll go with you."

Cheng Qicai glanced at his clothes and politely declined, "No need, you're a guest, you can stay with Brother Gu."

Watching Gu Liji wander around in his electric wheelchair, he said casually, "He doesn't need it."

Seeing that Gu Rongqi wanted to follow, she had no choice but to lead him to the vegetable garden.

Remembering how Gu Liji looked when he touched the slug, Cheng Qicai stopped him, "Just wait for me up there for a while, I'll be done picking them soon."

Gu Rongqi remained silent.

As Cheng Qicai went inside and bent down to pull up the vegetables from the field, she stood up and threw the vegetables into her basket. She saw that Gu Rongqi had followed her in at some point and was also bending down to pull up the vegetables from the field, just like her.

Cheng Qicai's gaze fell on the vegetables in his hand, and she continued to politely persuade him, "Gu Rongqi, you don't need to trouble yourself, just go upstairs and wait for me."

Gu Rongqi smiled and said, "It's alright, two people can work faster."

Cheng Qicai hesitated, watching him still bending over and continuing to pull, the words rolling on the tip of her tongue.

Seeing his serious expression, Cheng Qicai couldn't bear to interrupt him. After a while, she finally spoke up, "Uh, Gu Rongqi, you're pulling grass."

Gu Rongqi froze, an embarrassed look appearing on his face.

That expression was truly rare! Cheng Qicai wanted to laugh, but she held it back.

I told him to wait upstairs, but he refused. Now he's embarrassed himself.

What kind of cuisine could she expect from rich people like them?

Seeing him standing there in a daze, Cheng Qicai tried to smooth things over, saying, "It's not that you can't eat it, it's just that we don't usually eat this kind of thing here."

She walked over to him, picked a few vegetables from his hand, and explained, "You've finished picking the vegetables here. These are the weeds that grew later, but they're still edible."

Gu Rongqi pursed his lips and compared the vegetables in his hand with those in Cheng Qicai's hand. He found that apart from the color, the shape of the plant and the leaves were very different.

She joked, "It's okay, just consider it as weeding my land ahead of time."

Seeing Cheng Qicai trying to suppress her laughter, Gu Rongqi softened his expression. "Sorry, I didn't understand."

Later, Gu Rongqi would follow Cheng Qicai's lead and pick the same dish as her, and that's how he avoided making mistakes.

Looking at the basket full of vegetables, Gu Rongqi grabbed the basket straps and said, "Let me do it?"

"No," Cheng Qicai waved her hand in refusal, "I'll do it, I don't want to scratch your clothes. Besides, it's a bit heavy."

"It's nothing, just a piece of clothing," Gu Rongqi said nonchalantly. He grabbed the shoulder strap with his left hand, slung the basket over his shoulder, slipped his right hand through the other strap, and carried it forward.

Cheng Qicai looked at the coat wrinkled by the straps and thought, "If this coat gets damaged, I can't afford to pay for it."

But he was already carrying it on his back, so Cheng Qicai had no choice but to let him carry it.

Gu Rongqi carrying a basket on his back is completely out of place with his overall demeanor, making him look like he's gone from eating filet mignon to raising pigs.

Well, even pig farmers don't have this kind of temperament.

Walking home, Gu Liji stared at the vegetables on Gu Rongqi's back, then at Cheng Qicai who had returned empty-handed, dumbfounded.

Cheng Qicai looked at his surprised expression, her eyes seeming as if she were abusing his brother.

What kind of look is that? It's not like she asked him to carry her!

He opened his mouth, asking incredulously, "Brother, why do you look like a farmer?"

Hearing this, Cheng Qicai became a little unhappy. "Brother Gu, if you look down on farming, then you shouldn't eat later."

"Hey, that's not what I meant." Gu Liji realized he had misspoke. "Sorry, I was just really surprised and that's what I meant. I didn't mean anything else."

Cheng Qicai ignored him, turned around and took the vegetables out of the basket to wash. Gu Rongqi and Yun Suni saw this and came over to help.

Gu Liji watched this scene, touched his nose, and realized that his brother had such a domestic side.

After washing the vegetables, Cheng Qicai went to chop and stir-fry them. Yun Su Ni could help with this, but Gu Rong Qi couldn't.

After a busy afternoon, Cheng Qicai prepared a large and sumptuous dinner. After all, it was her last meal at home, so Cheng Qicai didn't take it lightly.

Everyone sat together, the crackling of firewood burning inside the house and the flickering lights outside, creating a warm and cozy scene.

The next morning, Gu Rongqi's car came to pick them up, and Cheng Qicai said goodbye to her grandparents with reluctance.

Even after their car disappeared, Cheng Qicai could still see her grandparents watching them go.

Parting is always sad, Cheng Qicai sighed.

They went to the courier station to send their belongings before heading to the airport.

Gu Rongqi booked her and Yun Suni's plane tickets, and they only realized they were also flying first class when they got to the airport.

But that makes sense; Gu Rongqi couldn't possibly sit in economy class with them.

So, thanks to Gu Rongqi, this was her first time flying first class, and it was indeed very different from economy class.

Each person has their own spot, so they are less likely to be disturbed by others.

She was a little curious when she first boarded the plane, but soon she felt sleepy and slept until the plane landed.

Gu Rongqi and the others had a car to pick them up; he had originally said he would take them back.

Cheng Qicai found it too troublesome, so she simply hailed a car and said goodbye to the group.
