Chapter 135 Further Inquiry

When Cheng Qicai heard Ren Baiping bring up the topic from earlier, she quickly waved her hand and said, "No."

As they passed the basketball court, Cheng Qicai remarked, "Your school has quite a few handsome guys."

Ren Baiping laughed, "Haha, I invited you to stroll around campus, did you come to see the handsome guys? I knew I shouldn't have taken you this way."

“No way,” Cheng Qicai pretended to be deep in thought, “It’s just something to do on the way, it doesn’t matter if we see a few more, we’ve already seen them all the way.”

Ren Baiping suddenly looked at him and asked, "Aren't there so many handsome guys around you? Why do you still like looking at them?"

"Who?" Cheng Qicai didn't react at first.

He laughed and said, "Those two handsome guys we went to the pet expo with last time."

Cheng Qicai realized, "Them? They're my bosses, so even if they're handsome, they'll lose some points."

"What? They've insulted you at work?"

Cheng Qicai joked, "No, not really. But when I'm working overtime, I don't think they're handsome anymore, hahaha."

Ren Baiping then asked, "That's true. Do they both have girlfriends?"

"No? But Brother Gu used to be pursuing my sister." After saying this, Cheng Qicai subconsciously observed Ren Baiping's expression.

She wanted to see if he really didn't care, but Ren Baiping's expression and his words were indeed consistent, and he seemed very indifferent.

Ren Baiping naturally picked up where Cheng Qicai left off, "No wonder, I was wondering why he looked at me strangely after he asked to see Yun Su Ni's photo that day."

He then asked Gu Rongqi, "What about your other boss? Does he have one?"

Cheng Qicai paused for a moment before saying, "No, but his parents are very strict and want a family-arranged marriage, so he always picks his girlfriends carefully."

Ren Baiping smiled again for some reason, "That's good."

Cheng Qicai looked at him, her eyes filled with confusion.

"What I mean is, they are tall, handsome, and rich. With such outstanding people around you, you're afraid you won't look down on me."

Cheng Qicai shook her head: "No, they have their advantages, and you have yours. You can't compare them like that. Besides, your most obvious advantage over them is that you are younger."

"Haha, thank you for the compliment."

No, I mean it.

The two arrived at the Thai restaurant that Ren Baiping had mentioned. Even though it wasn't break time, there were quite a few people sitting inside.

The food must taste really good, which is why the students came to eat so early.

When the dishes were served, Cheng Qicai took her first bite and found them to be quite delicious; no wonder Ren Baiping had highly recommended them. After they finished eating, Cheng Qicai went to pay the bill and found the price to be reasonable and not expensive.

The two left the restaurant, and there was a pedestrian street right outside, perfect for them to digest their food.

As they approached a cake shop, Ren Baiping said, "The pork floss cakes here are quite delicious. Shall we go in and take a look?"

Cheng Qicai nodded.

Looking at the dazzling array of pastries in the cupboard, they looked very appetizing, but she was full now and had no desire to eat them.

So she just took a quick look around and that was it.

Ren Baiping took a box of pork floss cakes to pay the bill.

Cheng Qicai asked, "Did you not eat enough just now?"

She feared that Ren Baiping was buying cakes again to save her money.

"No, it's for you." Ren Baiping handed her the meat floss cake.

When Cheng Qicai saw the meat floss pastry he offered, she quickly refused, "Why are you giving it to me? I'm still full. You should keep it for yourself."

"Consider this a return gift for the meal you treated me to," Ren Baiping said, still holding her hand. "You paid for most of the meal today, so it's time for me to pay a little. Otherwise, my roommates will laugh at me when I get back."

Seeing that Cheng Qicai was still hesitating, she said, "Take it, it's really delicious."

Seeing Ren Baiping's insistence, Cheng Qicai accepted the package and thanked him, saying, "Thank you very much."

The two strolled around for a while longer, and as it grew dark, Cheng Qicai felt it was time to head back.

Ren Baiping escorted her to the subway entrance.

"Be careful on the road, text me when you get home." Ren Baiping waved.

Cheng Qicai waved goodbye to him, saying, "Okay."

Cheng Qicai got off the escalator and took the subway. At the exit, she received a call from Gu Rongqi.

She looked at the caller ID, tapped to answer the phone: "Hello, Mr. Gu."

"Hmm, Seven Colors, are you home?"

"No, what's wrong?"

“I have something for you,” Gu Rongqi’s voice was slightly deep. “When will you be back?”

"Almost there, I'm at the subway entrance."

"Okay, I'll wait for you."

Cheng Qicai wanted to ask what it was, but before she could ask, she found that the other end of the phone had already hung up.

She had no choice but to quicken her pace and walk towards the residential area.

The warm yellow light cast a hazy glow on everything in the dark environment, including Gu Rongqi standing in front of the car under the streetlight.

The outline was blurry, and the person's face was not clearly visible, but Cheng Qicai still recognized him at a glance.

It could be his outstanding physique, or it could be an inexplicable intuition.

He was looking down, one hand in his pocket, the other holding a white box, lost in thought.

It looks a bit lonely.

Just as Cheng Qicai was about to call out to him, Gu Rongqi raised his head and looked at her.

The moment his dark, deep eyes met hers, Gu Rongqi's figure suddenly became brighter and clearer under the streetlights.

She walked quickly toward him, her breath a little unsteady. "I'm sorry to have kept you waiting."

Gu Rong straightened up and explained, "No, I just arrived when you called."

Cheng Qicai asked, "Is there something urgent you need to tell me?"

“No,” Gu Rongqi handed her the small white box. “It’s a friend’s birthday party today. I had the same birthday cake maker I used last time make it. I remember you really liked it, so I brought you a piece too.”

Cheng Qicai was stunned, feeling both shocked and touched, but also a little flustered.

Now that she was closer, Cheng Qicai could see his clothes clearly. He was wearing a dark blue suit, and his hair looked like it had been carefully styled. Just as he had said, he looked like he had just come from a banquet.

She glanced at the cake in Gu Rongqi's hand but didn't take it. She forced a smile, feeling awkward, and said, "You're too kind. You didn't need to bring it for me."

Gu Rongqi explained casually, still holding the cake out to her, "No, this cake maker only gets a few orders a year, and each person only has one opportunity to order a cake a year. I also brought one for Liji."

Hearing Gu Rongqi say this, Cheng Qicai's irregular heartbeat calmed down a bit.

But at the same time, I felt a little awkward. I should have known better than to say that I had brought this message specifically for me. Now I feel like I was just being presumptuous.

"Okay, thank you then." Cheng Qicai reached out to take it.
