Gu Rongqi made a request: "How about this, you treat me to another meal at your house, and that will make up for it."
"Even if you hadn't mentioned this request, I would have treated you to dinner anyway." Cheng Qicai thought it was some kind of request, but it was just an ordinary thing and didn't count as a request at all.
She asked, "Would you like to state your request again?"
"It's gone."
Cheng Qicai looked at him with a troubled expression. He was basically letting her get something for free.
You can't take advantage of someone just because of your relationship with them, can you?
Seeing the conflicted look in Cheng Qicai's eyes, Gu Rongqi lowered his gaze and said, "How about this, I'll bring up this request again when I think of something else."
“Okay.” Cheng Qicai nodded.
Sigh, these favors are truly the hardest to repay!
But Gu Rongqi said he wanted to eat food he cooked himself, and Cheng Qicai couldn't refuse such a simple request.
But there wasn't much food left in her refrigerator.
She said to Gu Rongqi, "Sit here for a while, I'll go to the market to buy groceries."
“I’ll go with you.” Gu Rongqi stood up.
"No need, you've been drawing all day and you must be tired. Sit down and rest for a while."
“I also went out for a walk, which is like getting some exercise,” Gu Rongqi insisted on his point of view.
Hearing Gu Rongqi say that, Cheng Qicai didn't press the matter any further and went out to the vegetable market with Gu Rongqi.
Looking at the dazzling array of vegetables in the market, Cheng Qicai turned to Gu Rongqi and asked, "What do you want to eat? Today is all about you, so you can eat whatever you want."
"Okay!" Gu Rongqi smiled, thought for a moment, and then ordered the same dish again, "Tomato and egg stir-fry, is that alright?"
"Of course!" Cheng Qicai nodded in agreement, picked out a few tomatoes from the vegetable stall, and since she already had eggs at home, she didn't need to buy any.
After buying the eggs, Cheng Qicai turned to look at him again: "Is there anything else you want?"
Gu Rongqi pointed to the vegetables in the basket and asked, "How about cabbage?"
Cheng Qicai nodded, noticing that there were no prices on the vegetable basket. She called out to the vendor, "How much is this cauliflower?"
After the shopkeeper told her the price, Cheng Qicai picked one out of the basket and weighed it.
After paying, Gu Rongqi frowned and asked, "Isn't that cabbage?"
Cheng Qicai didn't expect her to ask this question, but she still answered him: "That's true, but in the market, the round ones are usually called cabbage, and the pointed ones are called oxheart cabbage."
She walked to another vegetable stall, where they happened to have these two kinds of vegetables, and Cheng Qicai pointed them out to him.
Gu Rongqi nodded in understanding.
Seeing his serious expression, Cheng Qicai couldn't help but tease him, "It's quite impressive that you can recognize cabbage. When you came to my house before, you didn't recognize a single one, haha."
Although she knew it wasn't good, Cheng Qicai couldn't help but laugh out loud.
"Yes, I've been learning to identify vegetables lately." Gu Rongqi didn't think it was a big deal; instead, he nodded very seriously.
"Huh?!" Cheng Qicai was greatly shocked by this.
Recognizing vegetables? Gu Rongqi?
She found it hard to connect the two, and couldn't help but ask, "Why do you need to identify vegetables?"
Gu Rongqi stopped and looked at him.
His gaze made Cheng Qicai feel uneasy. He looked at her silently, as if to say, "It's because of you."
But what Gu Rongqi actually said was, "Because I want to learn."
"Haha, you're quite eager to learn, keep it up!" Cheng Qicai encouraged him.
She looked around at other places, "Is there anything else you'd like to eat? Would you like to check out the seafood?"
As she spoke, she walked in that direction.
Gu Rongqi quickened his pace and caught up with her.
Seeing Gu Rongqi following behind, Cheng Qicai pointed to the seafood on the fish stall and asked, "Fish, shrimp, clams... what do you want to eat?"
"Shrimp, please." Gu Rongqi was silent for a moment, then said, "I might not be the one to decide everything for today's meal."
Cheng Qicai thought for a moment and asked, "Do you eat pig's heart?"
She knew that some people didn't eat offal, so she still wanted to ask.
"Food." Gu Rong nodded.
Seeing that he agreed, Cheng Qicai went to the pork stall and bought a pig's heart. As she walked, Cheng Qicai said to Gu Rongqi, "We can buy a pig's heart later and braise it to make a cold dish."
Gu Rongqi listened attentively to Cheng Qicai's words, and only spoke after she finished: "It seems that I should come to the market more often to learn about vegetables."
"Huh?" Cheng Qicai was a little stunned for a moment. She hesitated and said, "Actually, you don't have to acknowledge this, right?"
Even though he's down on his luck now, he's still considered one of the wealthy people, someone who could easily live a leisurely life.
She had been overthinking things. She had even asked Lu Qi about it out of concern, but Lu Qi just smiled and told her not to worry and explained Gu Rongqi's situation to her.
After learning more, I realized that all my worries were unnecessary.
“No,” Gu Rongqi rarely denied what Cheng Qicai said, “I think this is still quite useful.”
"..." Cheng Qicai didn't know what to say.
The two returned home together. Cheng Qicai turned on the TV and handed the remote to Gu Rongqi, saying, "You can watch TV for a while. I'll go cook dinner now."
"Shall I help you?"
"No need, no need." Cheng Qicai stopped him again when she saw him stand up. She didn't know why he was so insistent on helping her. Didn't he know how little he knew about kitchens?
Cheng Qicai explained, "My kitchen is small, and it's difficult for two people to turn around. Besides, today was originally to thank you, so how could I let you do the work!"
