Chapter 199 Comfort

Cheng Qicai pursed her lips and walked towards her room.

She closed the door, but could still hear Ms. Yun's angry roars outside and Mr. Cheng's admonishing voice.

Ms. Yun's roar subsided, followed by low sobs.

Cheng Qicai felt extremely upset upon hearing this. She had expected that Ms. Yun would be angry because she had brought back some good news, but she hadn't anticipated that it would upset them so much and even make Ms. Yun cry.

In her memory, Ms. Yun had cried a few times. She remembered that Ms. Yun had cried when she and Mr. Cheng went to work after deciding to leave her at home to live with her grandparents.

Also, I secretly cried when I stayed with them during the summer vacation and had to go back to school.

Hearing the still-sounding crying outside, her nose started to sting.

She didn't know why Ms. Yun was angry, and after being scolded by Ms. Yun, she couldn't help but feel wronged.

The bitter feeling in my heart was like biting into the outer skin of a mangosteen.

She didn't know how much time had passed, but the crying gradually stopped, and Mr. Cheng came to knock on her door.

Cheng Qicai opened the door halfway, and from inside, she could see Ms. Yun's slightly red eyes on the sofa.

"Qicai, your mother is alright now, come out and eat first," Mr. Cheng said patiently.

Cheng Qicai nodded numbly.

At the dinner table, Cheng Qicai and Ms. Yun remained silent, with only Mr. Cheng's voice breaking out.

After she finished her meal without even realizing it, she sat at the table, and Ms. Yun, without even looking at her, took the dishes and went into the kitchen to wash them.

Mr. Cheng looked at Cheng Qicai and comforted her, "Your mother just hasn't quite come to terms with things yet. I'll talk to her about it in the next few days, and she won't be so conflicted anymore."

Cheng Qicai nodded, "Okay."

"You should go back first, otherwise your mother will still be angry when she sees you."

Cheng Qicai nodded again.

"It's alright, it's nothing! Don't be sad, this is actually a good thing, the shop is making so much money, keep up the good work! Give me a call if there are any problems." Mr. Cheng patted her shoulder, "Be careful on your way back, and don't worry about your mother!"

"Fine!" Cheng Qicai dejectedly took the subway back.

Although Mr. Cheng comforted her before leaving, the sadness in her heart could not be relieved in a short time.

In particular, she didn't feel she had done anything wrong.

Therefore, she felt even more wronged.

Halfway there, she received a call from Gu Rongqi.

Seeing Gu Rongqi's name on the caller ID, she silently hung up and stopped looking at her phone.

She just wants some peace and quiet right now.

When Cheng Qicai arrived at her door, she saw an unexpected yet reasonable figure.

Gu Rongqi was dressed in all black and was looking down at his phone. The cold white light from the screen made his expressionless face look somewhat indifferent.

She stepped forward and called out, "Gu Rongqi?"

She hadn't expected that Gu Rongqi would be waiting for her at the door when she didn't answer his call.

"Hmm, you're back?" Gu Rongqi put away his phone, and when he saw Cheng Qicai, a gentle smile returned to his face.

It was Cheng Qicai's familiar face again.

If he weren't standing outside the door, Cheng Qicai would feel more like he was standing at home welcoming his...wife?

Okay, this idea is a bit upside down!

Cheng Qicai stepped forward and opened the door for them, and the two went inside.

Seeing Cheng Qicai pour him a glass of water, Gu Rongqi picked it up, took a sip, and asked, "What happened today?"

Cheng Qicai shook her head.

She didn't want to talk to Gu Rongqi about her family, given their current special relationship, it wasn't convenient to discuss such matters.

If it's just a simple friendship, she can still talk to him.

But she didn't say anything. Gu Rongqi was smart and asked directly, "Did you have a fight with your parents?"

"..." Cheng Qicai looked at him in surprise, not understanding how he could have figured it out.

The next second, Gu Rongqi answered the question in her eyes: "When I went to your store this afternoon, your employees said you went home. So I think you must have gone back to talk to your parents about opening the store."

Seeing that Gu Rongqi had already guessed, she slowly said, "It wasn't exactly an argument, it's just that my parents were a little unhappy when they found out about it."

Cheng Qicai's calm tone precisely indicated that the matter was not as simple as she made it out to be.

This attitude also shows that she didn't want to talk to him.

Gu Rongqi rubbed his thumb against the red mole on his index finger a few times, then said seriously, "They might just be scared and worried that you're doing something so big behind their back."

Cheng Qicai was taken aback. "Scared and worried? But..."

She knew this, which is why she chose to tell them only after she succeeded.

“Opening a shop is risky after all. You meant well, but they were unaware of the business for so long. When you suddenly tell them, they think about the things you encountered while opening the shop, which were unknown to them. All sorts of emotions are mixed together, and in the end, they can only express it through anger.”

Cheng Qicai seemed to understand Gu Rongqi's words a little.

Seeing Cheng Qicai deep in thought, Gu Rong stood up. "You should rest well at home. Your parents will probably be fine after a few days. Don't worry too much."

She nodded.

Seeing Gu Rongqi stand up, she asked, "Are you leaving?"

"Okay. You sit here, I'll go out by myself." He said to Cheng Qicai, who was offering to see him off.

Despite what Gu Rongqi said, Cheng Qicai still saw him to the door.

After she returned and lay on the sofa thinking for more than ten minutes, there was another knock on the door.

Cheng Qicai opened it and saw that it was Gu Rongqi, who had returned.

He handed her the bag, saying, "Eating something sweet will cheer you up. I'm really leaving now, goodbye."

Cheng Qicai blankly took the bag, watching Gu Rongqi's departing figure.

She then remembered that this was the sentence she had said to him before.
