Cheng Qicai returned home, collapsed on the sofa, and posted a message on her WeChat Moments about her day of travel, with the caption: [A happy day, but I ran into a terrible friend. /smile]
That's what she wrote in her caption, but she didn't post any photos of herself falling.
How could she possibly post that? It's impossible.
Posting such photos would just hand her friends something to laugh at, wouldn't it? She wouldn't be that stupid.
Ren Baiping posted a photo of himself covered in mud, but she wasn't next to him; it was obvious that Ren Baiping had deliberately cropped her out.
Cheng Qicai was quite satisfied with this.
Soon, she saw that Gu Rongqi had liked her post, as had Ren Baiping's post.
She looked at Gu Rongqi's profile picture and sighed, "He's not that busy, is he? He's already liking my post so quickly."
Cheng Qicai pursed her lips and stopped looking at her phone.
But before she could look, Gu Rongqi called.
Cheng Qicai said "Hello" in a somewhat unpleasant tone.
"What are you doing?" Gu Rongqi's voice on the other end was still deep and pleasant.
But Cheng Qicai remained unmoved. "What else could I be doing? I'm just on the phone with you right now."
"..." Gu Rongqi sighed softly on the other end, making sure Cheng Qicai didn't hear. He paused for a moment and then asked with concern, "Did you hurt yourself anywhere when you fell down with Ren Baiping today?"
Cheng Qicai asked in shock, "How did you know I fell down too?"
Neither she nor Ren Baiping sent her any footage of her falling. How did Gu Rongqi know?
Gu Rongqi explained his analysis point by point: "In Ren Baiping's photo, he is clearly standing facing someone, and there are two shadows on the ground. Ren Baiping's expression also looks somewhat worried..."
"..." Cheng Qicai was shocked. Gu Rongqi was practically a microscope, how could he have seen through this?
However, he remembered that he had seen the reflection on the glass when he went out with Ren Baiping last time.
She thought, no wonder he can manage such a large company. With such keen observation skills, how could he not succeed?
Not hearing Cheng Qicai's voice, Gu Rongqi asked again, "Did you hurt yourself anywhere?"
"No."
"Really, are your hands scraped or anything? Or is there any other place where you fell and hurt yourself?"
Hearing Gu Rongqi's concerned words, Cheng Qicai felt inexplicably irritated. She said in a somewhat sharp tone, "I already said there's nothing wrong, why do you care so much? Even if I fell and hurt myself, you can't see it..."
Halfway through her sentence, Cheng Qicai realized that her words were too much of a complaint, even bordering on blaming.
Thinking of this, her tone softened immediately. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean that. I meant I really wasn't injured anywhere. When I fell, Ren Baiping even cushioned my fall."
"..." Gu Rongqi was silent for a while, then said sadly, "I should apologize for not being by your side for so long. But I will be back soon."
After exchanging a few more words, Cheng Qicai hung up the phone. Thinking of Gu Rongqi's tone earlier, her irritation rose again.
What does it matter if they're by my side or not? What does it matter if they come back or not? It's all the same anyway.
She was holding her breath, and with a "whoosh," she jumped out of bed and unleashed a series of punches at the goose at the foot of the bed.
After breaking out in a light sweat, she felt much better.
Cheng Qicai gradually put Gu Rongqi's promise to come back out of her mind.
Every time she contacted him before, she harbored a vague hope, but each time she was met with Gu Rongqi's repeated apologies.
So now that Gu Rongqi says he'll be back soon, she doesn't take it to heart.
When she has nothing to do, she will occasionally go to the store to check on the situation.
That day, while she was sitting in the store looking at reports, Lu Qi called, inviting her to his home for dinner.
When she arrived at Yun Su Ni's house, it was just time for dinner.
She looked at the table full of food, and her stomach growled at just the right moment.
"Are you hungry? Come and eat," Yun Suni called out.
Cheng Qicai didn't stand on ceremony. She pulled out a chair and sat down, picked up a boneless chicken foot and chewed on it, asking, "Sister, what do you want to see me about?"
Yun Su Ni glanced at her awkwardly, then looked at Lu Qi beside her, "It's like this..."
Seeing her stammering, Cheng Qicai assumed it was something important, so she put down her chopsticks and listened carefully to her.
"Here's the thing, Su Ni and I are going to Bu Luo Island for a while, and we wanted you to come and see Lu Yiyuan for a bit." Lu Qi directly took over Yun Su Ni's words and succinctly explained the purpose of their request for her to come.
Cheng Qicai was speechless. Seriously, listen to yourselves, is that even human language?
How can you say something like, "Your own child is yours to take care of while you go out and have fun"?
Cheng Qicai's gaze fell on Yun Su Ni.
Yun Suni blushed slightly under Cheng Qicai's gaze; she felt embarrassed too, but Lu Qi…
“We’ve prepared a room for you. Just come over when it’s ready. The postpartum nanny and other helpers are all here. If you need to move your things, just ask my driver, Xiao Li, for help. Or if you want to buy new things, I have a card here that you can use as you please.”
Lu Qi took a card out of his wallet and pushed it in front of Cheng Qicai.
Cheng Qicai stared at the black card on the table for a moment, then immediately reached out and slid the card off the table into her pocket.
She smiled brightly and said, "Thank you so much, Brother Lu~ By the way, how long are you leaving? Should I move in now...?"
