The three of them went down to the bottom of the mountain and hesitated whether to eat here or go back to eat. It was three o'clock now, too early for lunch. If they didn't eat, they would have only had a hasty breakfast all day.
As they were discussing this, Gu Rongqi's phone suddenly rang.
He exchanged a few brief words with the other person, glanced at Cheng Qicai twice, and finally shook his head slightly, saying forget it.
Cheng Qicai watched him hang up the phone and asked, "Is something wrong?"
Gu Rongqi replied, "Lu Yuliang asked us to have dinner together, but I have already declined."
Cheng Qicai and Wu Jieyu exchanged a glance, both of them looking relieved.
Cheng Qicai felt somewhat awkward eating with Gu Rongqi's friends now.
Wu Jieyu felt somewhat awkward eating with her teachers from the same school because she was a student.
Therefore, Gu Rongqi's refusal was entirely to their liking.
The three of them returned to school around 4 p.m., found a restaurant, and sat down.
During the meal, Cheng Qicai suddenly asked without warning, "Gu Rongqi, I'm planning to book a flight back for tomorrow. Do you want to come with me?"
Gu Rongqi paused slightly as he picked up some food, then nodded at Cheng Qicai: "Okay, let me know which flight you want to book."
"Okay." Cheng Qicai nodded.
After finishing their meal, just as Gu Rongqi and the others were about to part ways at the school gate, Cheng Qicai saw a familiar figure walking towards them.
Gu Rongqi noticed that she was looking behind him. Following her gaze, he saw Lu Yuliang walking over.
Lu Yuliang walked over to them and greeted Cheng Qicai and Wu Jieyu, "Hello, we met once before. I don't know if you remember me. I am Lu Yuliang, a friend of Gu Rongqi."
Cheng Qicai looked at the overly familiar Lu Yuliang, paused for a moment, then smiled and nodded politely, "I remember, hello, I'm Cheng Qicai."
"Hello, teacher!" Wu Jieyu greeted him as well. She had seen Lu Yuliang at school before and had greeted him before.
So the two weren't that unfamiliar with each other.
"Gu Rongqi said he was coming to City B with a friend I didn't know, and I was wondering who it was. I didn't expect it to be you. He even called to ask me to have dinner with him, but Rongqi declined."
Lu Yuliang smiled with an air of refinement, but when he said the word "friend," he seemed to emphasize it a little.
Cheng Qicai gave an awkward laugh.
Gu Rong frowned and asked, "Why are you here?"
"I just finished writing my report and came out to eat. It's such a coincidence that I ran into you guys here, so I came over to say hello."
Lu Yuliang then looked at them and asked, "Would you like to eat something else together?"
Cheng Qicai and Wu Jieyu exchanged a glance, and then Cheng Qicai shook her head, "No, we just ate, and we're still full. Thank you for your kindness."
"That's a pity. We can have a meal together sometime later."
"Okay, definitely next time." Cheng Qicai looked at the two of them and then said politely, "We'll head back now. Wu Jieyu still has her thesis to write."
"Yes, yes, teacher, we'll be going now. I need to go back and write my thesis," Wu Jieyu quickly agreed.
Lu Yuliang nodded, "Okay, you can go ahead and do what you need to do."
Watching the two figures disappear into the distance, Lu Yuliang looked at Gu Rongqi beside him and said, "Now that I see her, I'm really sure it's her. Back at the hot pot restaurant, I felt like there was something off between you two."
Gu Rongqi glanced at him and said, "Don't tell anyone."
"I know, I've satisfied my curiosity. I'm not so kind as to satisfy other people's curiosity. Let them keep it to themselves," Lu Yuliang said with a wicked smile.
Thinking about how Gu Rongqi's group of friends are now all alone in this secret, it couldn't be better.
"However, it seems like you still have a long way to go in your pursuit of her!" Lu Yuliang remarked.
Gu Rongqi remained silent.
Seeing Gu Rongqi's downcast eyes and melancholy expression, he patted him on the shoulder with a smug grin, "Keep it up!"
Gu Rongqi slapped his hand away and said calmly, "But she asked me to go back with her tomorrow."
Lu Yuliang was stunned for a moment, then burst into laughter.
It's rare to hear Gu Rongqi speak in this tone!
Since Wu Jieyu had to go to school on Monday, there wasn't much point in Cheng Qicai staying there. After returning to her dormitory, Cheng Qicai checked the flight schedule for tomorrow.
She finally chose the 11:30 flight, so that the time wouldn't be too tight or too slow, and they could take their time to catch the plane.
After checking the time, she sent a screenshot of the page to Gu Rongqi, asking, "Should I buy them together?"
Gu Rongqi quickly replied with a three-second voice message: [Okay, thank you.]
Magnetic yet gentle, like hearing a vintage record played on a gramophone.
We haven't been apart for long, but I've already started to miss her.
Cheng Qicai asked for his identification information and then bought tickets for both of them.
The next day, Cheng Qicai, dragging her suitcase, met Gu Rongqi at the door.
It was the same familiar car, but the person in the driver's seat had changed to Lu Yuliang.
He saw Cheng Qicai and waved to her, "Good morning! Qicai."
Cheng Qicai was stunned for a moment, then quickly nodded to her, "Good morning!"
Gu Rongqi placed her suitcase on the trunk and then said to her, "Lu Yuliang is free, so he said he would give us a ride."
Cheng Qicai nodded: "That's great, it means we don't have to take a taxi anymore."
She sat in the back seat. Lu Yuliang was very friendly and didn't mention her relationship with Gu Rongqi. Instead, he talked about topics that Cheng Qicai could participate in.
