Just as I was thinking about him, Gu Rongqi called me on video.
Cheng Qicai answered the call. Today he was wearing the same gray silk pajamas as before, except that today's color was pearl white.
It made his skin look even more like a piece of warm, white jade.
Cheng Qicai's gurgling swallowing sound reached Gu Rongqi's ears, making him laugh.
"Thirsty?" Gu Rongqi asked, looking at her with a playful glint in his eyes.
She stubbornly insisted, "No... I drank too much water, so my saliva production is a bit too high."
Judging from Gu Rongqi's expression, Cheng Qicai knew he was doing it on purpose, hoping to see a good show.
Capitalists are just incredibly wicked!
Looking at Gu Rongqi's face, she couldn't help but say, "It feels a little strange not having you here all of a sudden."
"Then I'll come over now."
Seeing Gu Rongqi lift the covers, Cheng Qicai quickly stopped him, "No, it's so late, it's too much trouble to come over. Just sleep like this! I was just saying it casually."
Gu Rongqi looked down at her, "But I'm not used to it when you're not around."
Cheng Qicai couldn't stand Gu Rongqi's gaze, so she looked away, refusing to look at his somewhat pitiful posture.
Cheng Qicai changed the subject, "By the way, don't you usually read before bed? Aren't you reading now?"
"I'm watching! I don't watch when we're chatting."
"Oh, what about the golden bean?" Cheng Qicai hadn't seen it for several days and was starting to miss it.
"It's in its own room, but it's probably not asleep yet."
Cheng Qicai chatted aimlessly, "Gu Rongqi, what book are you reading?"
Gu Rongqi picked up a book from his bedside table and showed it to her.
Cheng Qicai looked at the large yellow characters on the cover—"Lombard Street"—and the few lines of brief introduction below.
Upon seeing the description, she knew it was the type of book she didn't like to read.
She asked, "If I chat with you, won't you be unable to see it?"
"It's alright, I've read this book before, I'm just looking at it again."
Cheng Qicai thought for a moment and said, "How about this, you read it to me, which is equivalent to you reading the book and me chatting with you."
"Then I'll start from the first page." Gu Rongqi turned the book to the first page.
Cheng Qicai shook her head, "No need, just start from the page you're looking at. I probably won't understand anyway."
Gu Rongqi opened the page he was looking at again and took out the bookmark inside.
That fleeting glimpse of red looked somewhat familiar.
