Chapter 26 The Banquet (Part 1)

When Cheng Qicai returned, Ms. Yun gave her two jars of chili sauce.

Cheng Qicai figured this jar of chili sauce was huge, and it would take her a long time to finish it, so she decided to give one to the female lead.

Having learned from their previous hiking experience, they are now closer and contact each other more frequently.

She contacted the female protagonist, learned that she was at home, packed the chili sauce, and headed straight to her house.

She knocked on the door, feeling a little nervous, as this was her first time visiting the woman's home.

Yun Su Ni opened the door for her. As soon as she entered the house, the air was filled with the sweet smell of butter, which, combined with the warm color scheme of the room, made it very gentle and comfortable.

Her room clearly shows that the color scheme was carefully chosen; it's much more well-designed than my own messy mix-and-match style.

"Sis, this is chili sauce my mom made for me. She made too much, so I brought you a jar."

"Thank you, have some fruit, and there's cake too." Yun Suni brought out a cake from the kitchen and placed it in front of her.

Cheng Qicai picked up a piece of cake with her fork and put it in her mouth. The rich, creamy filling melted instantly in her mouth. "This cake is so delicious! It's even better than the ones sold in stores!"

Yun Suni was a little embarrassed and said shyly, "Thank you!"

Yun Su Ni perfectly embodies the early novel heroine archetype: beautiful, kind, compassionate, and a great cook...

Her downside is that she's emotionally oblivious, but to an almost unbelievable degree. Gu Liji's feelings were so obvious, yet she still thought he genuinely considered her a friend.

The story features a domineering male lead, a gentle second male lead, and a passionate third male lead.

Now the only guy she hasn't met is the gentle second male lead.

The male lead was four years older than the female lead, and she remembered that the second male lead was only one year older than Yun Su Ni.

However, considering the potential love triangle between the male lead and the third male lead, Cheng Qicai decided to give up.

After finishing the cake, Yun Suni invited her to watch the anime from last time together.

After watching the anime, it was almost time to leave.

But Yun Su Ni called out to her, "Wait a minute, Seven Colors."

After she finished speaking, she went into the kitchen again, where Cheng Qicai saw two trays of cookies that were cold in her baking pan.

Yun Suni packed the cookies into a cookie bag.

There were two portions in total. Yun Suni handed her the cookie bag printed with daisies.

Looking at another bag of cookies with heart-shaped patterns printed on it, Cheng Qicai asked jokingly, knowing the answer already, "Whose cookies are these for?"

Yun Su Ni's cheeks flushed slightly, and her eyes darted away: "No...nobody."

Cheng Qicai asked mischievously, "Oh, so it wasn't for Brother Lu? You have a second boyfriend, huh?"

"No, it was him," Yun Suni hurriedly admitted.

Seeing the female lead blushing, she realized it was no wonder the male lead loved her so much. If she were a man, she would also like such a sweet and soft girlfriend.

"Okay, then I'll be going now."

When Cheng Qicai got home, she found that her blind date had accepted her application.

I sent a formulaic message: "[Hello, I'm Cheng Qicai, introduced by Aunt Zhang.]"

The other end quickly replied: [Hello, this is Ji Xing.]

After a brief chat about everyday things, Cheng Qicai didn't find anything strange about him and could temporarily assume he was a normal person.

Cheng Qicai thought to herself that her mother was actually reliable for once.

It was quite late when they returned from Yun Su Ni's place. After only a few words, they said goodnight to each other and went to sleep.

Lin Fengjie looked at Cheng Qicai, who was constantly replying to messages on her phone, and felt something was off. What was more, she kept making a smile.

Something was definitely wrong. "Seven Colors, something's not right with you. Tell me honestly, are you in a relationship?"

Cheng Qicai casually replied, "No."

"Dare you look me in the eye and look me straight in the eye?" Lin Fengjie complained. "How can you bear to see your brother Lin flaunting his recent breakup in front of me?"

Cheng Qicai looked up helplessly: "I really don't have one, it's just a blind date arranged by my family."

"The blind date? What does he look like?" Lin Fengjie got really excited when he talked about this.

Cheng Qicai showed him photos from his WeChat Moments.

"She's alright looking, but her social media posts are so flashy, it feels a bit pretentious."

"Hey Lin, who doesn't post nice photos on their WeChat Moments? These days, aren't people's lives all raw and unfiltered, but their WeChat Moments are all meticulously curated?"

Cheng Qicai chatted with the other person and found it quite alright; the other person was quite good at finding topics to talk about.

She believed that her mother was finally being reliable this time!

Lin Fengjie scratched his head, not quite understanding young people these days. "Okay, have you two met yet?"

She shook her head. "No, he's on a business trip out of town right now and won't be back for another month."

"Ah, it's been so long. But it's good to chat more and get to know each other better." Lin Fengjie suddenly seemed to remember something and asked, "By the way, how's the relationship between President Gu and your sister?"

"It's just like that," Cheng Qicai said indifferently.

Lin Fengjie looked incredulous. "How could that be? President Gu told me to get rid of all those girls from before. It seems he really wants to settle down for your sister."

"Huh? How come I didn't know?" She felt a pang of regret for not being at the forefront of gossip.

Seeing Cheng Qicai's genuinely clueless expression, Lin Fengjie suppressed his gossipy nature.

Time passed at a leisurely pace, and the relationship between the male and female protagonists progressed steadily.

"Seven Colors, wait a moment, come with me to the banquet," Gu Liji suddenly informed her.

"Huh?" Cheng Qicai didn't react for a moment. "But I don't have a dress."

"Just order one. I have the contact information for the designer I ordered the dress from, Lin Fengjie. You can contact him."

Since the leaders had spoken, Cheng Qicai had no choice but to make the contact and order a set that matched Gu Liji's.

In the afternoon, Cheng Qicai was picked up by Gu Liji and taken to a private custom clothing store to change into a formal dress and have her hair and makeup done.

The designer styled her in a matcha green halter-neck knee-length dress, and her hair was styled into an elegant low ponytail, giving her a sophisticated and bling-bling look.

Cheng Qicai is a bit awkward with this style, but you have to admit, she is a professional, and her paintings look just like natural faces.

Although she's a bit unreliable, her makeup style when she was in school leaned towards a cool and edgy look.

When she was in college in City C, her style was so unapproachable that she always wore the kind of dark red lipstick that would scare children.

That was truly an unforgettable period for her, a time when she was considered a non-mainstream persona!

However, now that she's back in City A, and with Ms. Yun keeping an eye on her, plus the fact that she's a secretary and needs to dress formally, she doesn't feel like dressing in anything too flashy.

I don't have any plans with my friends, and there's no one worth dressing up for!

"Brother Gu, I've never attended any banquets before. What if I get nervous and make a mistake?" Cheng Qicai was a little uneasy.

Gu Liji comforted him, "It's alright, this isn't a particularly important banquet, there aren't many formalities. Just follow my instructions."

With Gu Liji's reassurance, she felt much more at ease.
