Chapter 271 Falling Down

When Qicai woke up the next day, the familiar embrace made her subconsciously put her legs on Gu Rongqi's body and then snuggle into his arms.

Her messy head would gently nuzzle against his chest, like a small animal seeking a safe haven.

Her unconscious coquettishness made Gu Rongqi's heart melt like a cloud.

As Cheng Qicai smelled the familiar woody scent emanating from Gu Rongqi, her consciousness gradually returned. When she looked up, she saw Gu Rongqi's handsome face magnified before her eyes.

Cheng Qicai stared blankly, and Gu Rongqi asked gently, "Awake? Want to sleep a little longer or get up for breakfast?"

She usually stays in bed a little longer after waking up, but if she's particularly hungry, she'll get up right away.

Based on her amount of exercise yesterday, Gu Rongqi estimated that she would get up and eat directly.

She saw Gu Rongqi looking at her with clear, affectionate, and tender eyes.

It was a stark contrast to the aggressive look in his eyes last night, as if he had a dream that was the opposite of his own personality.

However, the strange feeling on my body reminded me of the reality of last night.

The feeling of weightlessness in the water last night, and the fact that her whole body could only cling to Gu Rongqi as a "drift log," still makes her scalp tingle just thinking about it.

Even during yesterday's "settling accounts" moment, she never imagined that Gu Rongqi could deduce her thoughts at the time from just a few words between her and Ms. Yun.

Cheng Qicai was genuinely angry that she specifically chose that time to ask her.

Gu Rongqi massaged her lower back, relieving much of her soreness.

Making amends afterward has become standard practice for Gu Rongqi.

Looking at Cheng Qicai, who was puffing up her cheeks, he asked, "What's wrong?"

"You still have the nerve to ask me what's wrong? Don't you know what's wrong yourself?" Cheng Qicai said through gritted teeth.

Gu Rongqi chuckled softly, but looked into her eyes with great seriousness. "But I don't like it when you say anything about breaking up, especially things like you're thinking about finding someone else."

From the very beginning, he sensed that Cheng Qicai was prepared to withdraw at any time.

He had carefully laid out the net, intending to wait patiently, but since the prey had walked right into it, he shouldn't be blamed for wanting to wrap her up with silk threads.

Seeing that he was unmoved, Cheng Qicai said with dissatisfaction, "I've already told you, that was just something my mom and I made up. The treatment you have now is half thanks to me back then."

"Thank you." Gu Rongqi touched her face. "But you're not allowed to use this excuse to tell others in the future."

I'm touched, but I don't agree.

His tone was somewhat domineering, and sounded rather authoritarian to Cheng Qicai.

Gu Rongqi's hand was warmer than her own body temperature, which reminded her of the beginning of last night's events.

She started to panic, and she slapped his hand away, not letting him touch her face.

She quickly broke free from Gu Rongqi's embrace, got out of bed, and ate. To be honest, while being in the bathtub had its own unique charm, it wasn't comfortable for her the next day.

Thinking about who was going to stay inside, she disliked Gu Rongqi even more.

Gu Rongqi sat opposite her and saw her sitting silently eating, completely unlike her usual enthusiastic self.

So he asked, "What do you want to do after you finish eating? Puzzle or play games?"

Cheng Qicai glanced at him but didn't answer.

Seeing that Cheng Qicai was ignoring him, he picked up a shumai and put it in her bowl. "Didn't you want to eat shumai yesterday morning? I went to buy some this morning and have been keeping it in the steamer. It might not taste as good as when it's freshly bought."

"I wanted to eat that yesterday, not today." Cheng Qicai picked up a piece of food, took a small bite, and said something that sounded like she was nitpicking.

Gu Rongqi smiled and asked good-naturedly, "So what would you like to eat..."

Before he could finish speaking, he was interrupted by a call from his phone, which was on the table.

He answered the phone, "Hello, Mom?"

"Okay, I'll be right there..."

Gu Rongqi and Qian Zhi's expressions turned serious after only a few words.

Seeing him hang up the phone, Cheng Qicai asked in confusion, "Did something happen?"

"Yes, my dad fell and got hurt." Gu Rong stood up, speaking quickly. "I'm sorry, I have to go to the hospital today."

"Huh?" Cheng Qicai was shocked by the news. "Fell down? Is that person alright? Is it serious?"

"A broken arm and ligament damage in the knee; you'll need to go to the hospital for a more detailed examination."

"Then I'll go with you?" Cheng Qicai stood up as well, then thought for a moment and asked, "Is that alright?"

Gu Rongqi hesitated for a moment. It wasn't that he didn't want her to go, but he was afraid that if Gu Lubo saw her, he would say something hurtful.

His refusal turned into a nod after seeing her worried expression, "Okay."

The two quickly changed their clothes and drove to the private hospital where Gu Lubo was located.

As soon as they entered the ward, they saw Grubber lying on the bed with a pale face, and several doctors standing in front of the bed, talking with Chi and the others.

Gu Rongqi called out to the two of them, and Cheng Qicai followed suit, respectfully greeting them, "Auntie, Uncle."

The two were slightly taken aback when they saw Cheng Qicai next to Gu Rongqi, but still nodded politely.

The attitude was lukewarm.

"Doctor, how are my dad's injuries?" Gu Rongqi looked at Gu Lubo on the bed; he had abrasions on his head and hands. "Have the reports come out yet?"

"Here it is, this is the medical report," the doctor handed the report to Gu Rongqi. "Gu has a mild concussion, a fractured left arm, a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right leg, and a few abrasions. Apart from his arm, the other problems are not very serious..."

After the doctor finished explaining some precautions, I left.

Gu Rongqi asked with concern, "Dad, how did you fall?"

Gulubo didn't speak.

"Your dad was on the phone when he went down the stairs and didn't notice that he had fallen down the stairs," Qianzhi answered for him.

"Dad, be more careful next time, like answering the phone while going downstairs. Luckily, this time it's just a matter of resting for a while." Gu Rongqi picked up a knife and an apple from the table.

Seeing Gu Rongqi's skillful apple-peeling movements, Gu Lubo was taken aback. He had never seen him peel fruit at home before.

Of course, at home, Gu Rongqi doesn't need to do these things.

Gu Rongqi handed him the peeled apple and then peeled another one for Qianzhi.

Qianzhi handed the apple to Cheng Qicai.

Cheng Qicai quickly waved her hand to refuse, "No, Auntie, you eat."

Judging from Cheng Qicai's current apprehensive demeanor, it seems somewhat different from how she felt when they first met.

He suddenly became humble.

Gu Rongqi: "Mom, you eat first, I'll just peel another one."

After he finished peeling the last one, he looked up and asked Cheng Qicai, "Shall we each have half?"

He knew that Cheng Qicai didn't really like apples.

Cheng Qicai nodded.

Gu Rongqi watched the two of them dividing the apples and said in a somewhat cold tone, "Just ask Aunt Zhang to bring some over later. It's so shabby, like we don't even have any apples."

These words were somewhat sharp. Cheng Qicai looked at Gu Lubai, then at Gu Rongqi.
