They agreed to meet at 3 p.m., but the weather had turned cold recently, and Cheng Qicai was reluctant to get out of her warm bed. In addition, she still needed to get ready, so it was better to set the time in the afternoon, which would give her more time.
This blind date was a rare weekend activity for her. She took out her long-forgotten makeup box, and because she hadn't done makeup in so long, she was a little rusty.
Although she was Gu Liji's secretary, her actual work was not much different from that of a clerk. Gu Liji mostly asked Lin Fengjie to handle social engagements.
Since she doesn't need to go out to meet clients often, she just puts on some lipstick and leaves for work every day.
After dressing herself up, she rode her electric scooter out to meet him.
The subway line to the company is so congested. Every day it's packed with people like sardines in the sea, and you have to wait for several trains.
She found that the electric scooter was faster, unlike cars which get stuck in traffic or subways which are crowded.
For some reason, the road ahead was congested today, and even her electric scooter couldn't pass very fast.
Cheng Qicai stood up anxiously to see what was happening ahead, but all she saw was a dense line of vehicles that remained motionless.
Her electric scooter was fine; it could move forward. It's just that some cars don't follow the rules and drive into the non-motorized vehicle lane.
"Cheng Qicai".
Just as she was blocked by another car in front of her, Cheng Qicai heard a voice from the side.
She turned her head and saw that it was Gu Rongqi.
"President Gu?" Cheng Qicai was surprised to run into him here. "Where are you going?"
This road is not the route to Ouqi.
Gu Rongqi succinctly stated, "To the airport."
Cheng Qicai understood. Looking at the long line of vehicles, she doubted that the plane would even reach its destination after landing.
The secretary next to him was a stranger. He glanced at his watch and asked anxiously, "Mr. Gu, I'm afraid there's not enough time. Should we tell Mr. Jones that we can sign it later?"
Gu Rongqi frowned in thought, seemingly unable to make up his mind for a while.
Cheng Qicai spoke up, "Is there something urgent for you? Should I give you a ride?"
The airport is about 40 minutes away from here, and it's only a little past 1 p.m., so we can make it back and forth in time.
Gu Rongqi glanced at the car she was standing in; its macaron color scheme looked adorable. He hesitated for a moment, then nodded slightly.
The car pulled over to the side of the road, and Cheng Qicai stared blankly as Gu Rongqi got out of the car, walked up to her, and asked, "How do I sit here?"
Oh no, I meant your secretary when I said the gift was given to her!
However, since she asked the question, it wouldn't be good to go back on her word now, so she can only bite the bullet and do it this way.
The secretary inside the car handed the documents out the window. "Thank you for your help, Ms. Cheng."
Cheng Qicai took the document somewhat speechlessly, put it in the bicycle basket, and turned to Gu Rongqi, saying, "Come on from the back, put your feet on the back pedals, and put your hands on the back bar."
Gu Rongqi had never ridden in this kind of transportation before. Seeing the electric vehicles carrying people coming and going, he tried to straddle one of them.
Such close contact made Gu Rongqi feel a little uncomfortable. He wanted to create some distance in this small space, so he twisted back with difficulty.
"Don't move!" Cheng Qicai called out softly. Gu Rongqi was already quite heavy, and she hadn't carried anyone for a long time, so she wasn't used to controlling the direction yet.
Upon hearing Cheng Qicai's voice, Gu Rongqi's body instantly stiffened.
After a few unsteady steps, Cheng Qicai gradually got used to the weight of the two of them.
There were quite a few cars on the non-motorized lanes at midday, and they only realized what was going on when they drove to the source of the congestion.
A car collided with a truck loaded with beer, scattering broken beer bottles all over the ground and filling the air with the strong smell of malt alcohol.
After passing the congested section, they were finally able to drive at a normal speed.
Cheng Qicai glanced at the rearview mirror. Gu Rongqi's face was serious, as if facing a formidable enemy. Without Cheng Qicai having to guess, she knew that Gu Rongqi was probably embarrassed.
Because she could feel that he was as hard as a rock in the back seat.
With a "whoosh," Cheng Qicai braked suddenly, her body leaning forward due to gravity, and Gu Rongqi was also pulled onto her back by the inertia.
Caught between two attacks, Cheng Qicai's head slammed into the dashboard. Luckily, she was wearing a helmet; otherwise, she would have suffered a large bump on her head or even a concussion.
The light turned yellow, and the car in front of her stopped without warning, so she had to brake suddenly as well.
She adjusted her helmet and asked Gu Rongqi behind her, "Mr. Gu, are you alright?"
"It's nothing." Gu Rong stood up and distanced himself, feeling uneasy for the first time in his life.
"Mr. Gu, you should still hold me..." Feeling that her words were somewhat ambiguous, she changed her approach, "Put your hands on my waist to keep me steady, so that we don't have to brake suddenly again."
Gu Rongqi hesitated, feeling that this was not a good idea.
Cheng Qicai didn't have that many thoughts; she wasn't so particular when she used to drive people around the village.
Cheng Qicai saw that the red light was about to end, but Gu Rongqi still hadn't moved. She turned around and glanced at him, urging him in confusion, "President Gu?"
As soon as the red light ended, Cheng Qicai started moving instantly, which made Gu Rongqi have no time to hesitate. He leaned forward due to inertia and automatically wrapped his arms around Cheng Qicai's waist.
Fortunately, it was cold, and Cheng Qicai was wearing a dark denim jacket. The rough fabric brought Gu Rongqi back to his senses. The fragrance of jasmine on Cheng Qicai wafted into his nose with the wind, just like the scent he had smelled on her blanket that morning.
"Oh my god!" Cheng Qicai exclaimed in surprise, wanting to turn around immediately, but she had obviously been spotted by the sharp-eyed police officer, who signaled her to pull over.
