Cheng Qicai stopped the car and waited for Gu Rongqi to get out from the back. "Mr. Gu, I'll drop you off here!"
Aren't you coming in with me?
"Huh? Go in?" Cheng Qicai stopped in her tracks as she was about to start the car.
This guy really wants to see things through to the end himself!
"Yes, you'll come with me," Gu Rongqi said, adjusting his cuffs.
Seeing Gu Rongqi's unquestionable demeanor, Cheng Qicai had no choice but to park her electric scooter in the airport's non-motorized vehicle area and resignedly follow him inside.
Cheng Qicai followed behind him and found a blond, blue-eyed foreigner in the airport VIP lounge.
Gu Rongqi stepped forward, shook hands with him, and exchanged a few warm greetings.
The two were speaking English, and Cheng Qicai, a poor student, could only understand the beginning, "Nice to meet you, Jones." The rest was like gibberish to her.
This phrase is so familiar it's ingrained in our genes.
I can't understand what they're saying, and I can't leave.
She could only observe the lounge with boredom; she had never seen what a VIP room looked like before!
Anyway, she was just brought in as a background character, so what's wrong with her spacing out a bit?
"Seven Colors, bring the documents over here."
Cheng Qicai regained her composure and handed over the documents in her hands with both hands.
Seeing that the other party's hand, which was about to sign, stopped, Cheng Qicai's heart jumped. He flipped to the previous clause and asked Gu Rongqi again.
As the other party asked more and more questions, Cheng Qicai couldn't help but feel anxious.
Seeing that the two were engrossed in their conversation and no one was paying attention to her, she turned on her phone under the table.
2:15.
If he didn't finish speaking soon, he would be late for his meeting with Ji Xing.
After a long back-and-forth exchange, Jones, the foreigner, finally signed the document.
Thank goodness, Cheng Qicai's anxiety finally subsided.
After Jones boarded the plane and parted ways with them, Gu Rongqi finally spoke: "Thank you for today. Is there something you need?"
She noticed that Cheng Qicai was dressed differently today than usual, looking meticulously made up, and that he checked his phone several times while he was talking to Jones.
Cheng Qicai hadn't expected the other person to notice her subtle action, and gave a vague reply: "A little."
Fortunately, she had told Ji Xing in advance that she would be a little late.
"I'm sorry to have kept you waiting." Gu Rongqi looked down at her. "If it's urgent, I can compensate you."
Cheng Qicai was surprised that he would apologize, and her complaints lessened a bit. "It's nothing, it's just that it's time for my appointment with someone, and I've already told them in advance."
"friend?"
"No, he's my blind date."
"Your blind date?" Gu Rongqi paused slightly. "Is it the one you mentioned before?"
"Yes!" Cheng Qicai readily admitted, "He was away on a business trip before, so we only managed to meet today."
Gu Rongqi didn't say anything more.
"Mr. Gu, I'll be going now." Cheng Qicai looked at the familiar car parked outside. The good deed was finally over, and she could retire gracefully.
Gu Rongqi turned to face her, his voice calm, "I'll take you there."
"No need, I still have my electric scooter," Cheng Qicai refused.
"Zhang Qiang can help you ride the electric scooter back," Gu Rongqi said, looking at the driver in the driver's seat.
Cheng Qicai sensed a hint of assertiveness in Gu Rongqi's tone, but she still sincerely declined, saying, "Really, it's not necessary. Thank you for your kindness, Mr. Gu, but I'll be leaving now."
She thought she might be overthinking it, waved to Gu Rongqi, and walked towards the airport's non-motorized vehicle parking area.
After a huffing and puffing ride of half an hour, Cheng Qicai finally arrived at the shopping mall where she had arranged to meet Ji Xing.
She parked her car and quickly touched up her makeup in the mall's restroom.
As she entered the agreed-upon coffee shop, she took a deep breath and spotted Ji Xing waving among the many seats.
"Sorry to keep you waiting." Cheng Qicai put down her bag and sat down opposite Ji Xing.
"It's nothing." Ji Xing smiled. "It's just that you look a little different from the photo. I didn't recognize you when you first came in."
The other person's familiar attitude dispelled Cheng Qicai's initial awkwardness, and she asked in return, "Really?"
“You look rather gentle in the photos,” Ji Xing paused for a moment, “but you look cool in real life.”
The outfit features a matching dark blue denim jacket and wide-leg pants, with a green shirt underneath, and gold hoop earrings, giving off a retro vibe reminiscent of the 80s.
“That’s the style my mom likes in the photo. If I wore that at home, she would nag me endlessly…” Cheng Qicai rolled her eyes speechlessly.
Ji Xing was amused by her, "That's true."
A cup of coffee with a fragrant aroma and a matcha mille-feuille cake were brought over by the staff.
Ji Xing said, "I ordered you a latte and a matcha mille-feuille, which are popular choices among girls."
"Thank you!" Cheng Qicai was taken aback. Compared to a sweet latte, she preferred the original flavor of Americano.
Moreover, she doesn't like matcha. She used to like it quite a bit, but once she ate a piece of matcha and soon after, she vomited for some reason. After that, she never ate matcha cake again.
But she couldn't refuse their kindness, so she used her fork to scoop up a small piece and started eating.
The sweetness was compounded, and Cheng Qicai felt an overwhelming greasiness in her mouth.
"It's still early, how about we watch a movie?"
“Okay!” Cheng Qicai nodded.
Seeing that Cheng Qicai had stopped and wasn't touching the cake, Ji Xing said at the right moment, "I've bought a really popular romance movie. It's upstairs in this mall. It's about time, let's go."
Cheng Qicai picked up her bag and stood up, something inexplicably wrong about her.
She saw Ji Xing picking up his tickets, told him, and then went to the counter to buy two plates of popcorn chicken and two cups of cola.
He handed Ji Xing a serving of popcorn chicken and a Coke. Although Ji Xing accepted it, he said with a hint of helplessness, "Thank you, but I don't usually eat these unhealthy things. I usually drink soda water and mineral water. A lot of girls like to drink these kinds of drinks now, and they're all unhealthy. But you're still young, so it's normal for you to like them."
Cheng Qicai felt uncomfortable listening to this, but there was also a sense that she couldn't refute it.
For some reason, I remembered Gu Rongqi telling her at the hamburger shop to eat less of these unhealthy foods.
"Sorry, I didn't ask your preferences," Cheng Qicai said apologetically.
Ji Xing's tone turned indulgent as he picked up a piece of popcorn chicken and put it in his mouth, saying, "You bought it for me, so I have to eat it, right?"
"Haha," Cheng Qicai laughed awkwardly, changing the subject, "Let's go, the movie is starting."
The two entered early, and advertisements were still playing on the screen. They found their ticket numbers and sat down; their seats were in the middle with a great view.
The film tells a campus story, a clichéd love triangle, in which the female lead is betrayed by the female supporting character who constantly sows discord between them. The two women refuse to talk, and all they do when it comes to the crucial moment is cry and yell.
