Chapter 48 Good Friends

Cheng Qicai rushed to the high-speed rail station as soon as she got off work on Friday. Her good friend Wu Jieyu informed her that the preliminary exam for postgraduate studies in City B had ended and asked her to come pick her up quickly.

Wu Jieyu is her best friend whom she has known since junior high school.

To be honest, neither Cheng Qicai nor she herself expected to be able to study to the point of taking the postgraduate entrance examination. When Cheng Qicai met her, she already had the potential to be a little bit of a hooligan. Not only did she get close to people from society, but she also dated a variety of people of different backgrounds.

In junior high school, she thought that once she finished junior high, that would be the end of her life. Unexpectedly, she barely passed the entrance exam for a regular high school, but she was at the bottom of the class in high school. Wu Jieyu once thought that she would not even finish high school.

She believes that a repressive cage should not imprison her free soul.

Cheng Qicai, a poor student, told her that since she didn't want to study anymore, she should accompany her to take the exam and choose a university with her. What if they got in?

Wu Jieyu agreed, and decided to endure it for another year.

I must say, Cheng Qicai has a pretty good tongue.

During her senior year of high school, Wu Jieyu broke up with her boyfriend who was in a relationship with a stranger. Suddenly, she had a breakthrough and was able to really focus on learning.

But there wasn't enough time for her to study, and in the end, she and Cheng Qicai were admitted to the same university.

Cheng Qicai believes that if she studies hard from the first year of high school to the third year, she should be able to get into a top-tier university.

When it came time for their senior year internships, the two were planning to look for jobs together again, but Mr. Cheng's job changed and her family was moving to City A, so they parted ways.

As for why she pursued graduate studies, it was because Wu Jieyu could only find jobs by making phone calls. After two days of making phone calls, she felt like her soul was being sucked away by her phone.

After much agonizing thought, she decided to grit her teeth and go back to take the postgraduate entrance exam. At the time, she thought that with this reason, she could have another year of fun and also give her parents an explanation.

She still had to pretend to study. One day, she went to the graduate school study room and suddenly discovered that, hey, some bookworm who was studying seriously was actually quite interesting.

She went every day, and she actually managed to keep going until the end of the re-examination.

Cheng Qicai concluded that her lustful desires played a significant role in this great change.

She couldn't come to Cheng Qicai's birthday party last time, but she sent Cheng Qicai a birthday gift.

Cheng Qicai thought it would be a good opportunity to treat her to a meal and also have a good time in City A.

City B is not far from City A; it takes about an hour to get there by high-speed train.

Cheng Qicai stared intently at the exit and saw a girl with long black hair and a white wool coat waving at her.

Cheng Qicai swept past, searching for Wu Jieyu's figure. That bastard, he said he was going to the next stop, but everyone's gone and he can't even see a shadow.

The white figure blocked her view. Cheng Qicai moved to the side, and the white figure moved with her.

Cheng Qicai was about to look up and scold her, but the other person spoke first.

"Cheng Qicai, are you blind? I've been waving at you for ages, and you still can't see me."

Cheng Qicai turned around and saw the girl in white from before. Cheng Qicai carefully examined the girl's face for a while.

She exclaimed, "Wu Jieyu, what happened to you?"

What about her big, unconventional friend?

"What do you mean by that?" Wu Jieyu tossed her hair back unhappily. "No matter what, I'm still a beautiful flower!"

"Yes, yes, yes! Daffodils!" Cheng Qicai replied perfunctorily.

The two returned to Cheng Qicai's small house together. Wu Jieyu lay down casually on her sofa, looked around, and said, "You've really tidied up this house."

"Of course, I don't know how much effort I put into these things." Cheng Qicai said with great pride.

"This little baby is cute, I'll take her with me..."

"This fuzzy strawberry is quite cute, I'll take it with me too..."

"This abs trophy is pretty good too, I'll..."

"Wu Jieyu! Did you invite me to my house to be a bandit?!" Cheng Qicai, unable to bear it any longer, snatched the things back.

Wu Jieyu pouted and shrugged, "Why are you still so stingy even though you're at work?"

Cheng Qicai pointed to the gate and said, "I'm just that stingy. If you think I'm stingy, then go back."

"Boring!" Wu Jieyu pouted, picked up the velvet box on the table, opened it, and saw a pair of geometrically cut gold cufflinks quietly embedded in the black velvet fabric.

She took it out and looked at it, then shouted at Cheng Qicai, "Cheng Qicai, what did you buy? Earrings? Why are the ear posts so thick?"

"Give it to me!" Cheng Qicai stepped forward, snatched the cufflinks from her hand, put them in the box, and slammed the lid shut.

Cheng Qicai looked at her with disdain, "You country bumpkin, they're cufflinks, okay!"

"Cufflinks?" Wu Jieyu couldn't understand. "No, why are you buying these?"

Then, as if realizing something, she said, "Is this a gift for a man? You, Cheng Qicai, you've been secretly seeing men behind my back."

“No, we’re friends,” Cheng Qicai explained.

Wu Jieyu, with a look that said "You better confess honestly," said, "I don't believe it. This thing looks expensive."

"Really, he gave me this as a birthday present first." Cheng Qicai held up the hooded figurine from the bedside table and showed it to her. "It cost 58,000! That's why I bought these cufflinks as a return gift. I couldn't give him anything too cheap, could I?"

"This is it?" Wu Jieyu took the figurine and looked at it.

Cheng Qicai snatched it back, "Don't underestimate it, okay? A certain big brand can sell steel wool and paper clips at high prices, so why can't they? Plus, they're so well-designed."

To be honest, she felt a little pained when she paid for those cufflinks.

Cheng Qicai put it on top of the cabinet so that she wouldn't see it often and would avoid thinking about the money and getting upset.

"Alright! So what are we going to eat later?"

"Hot pot? It's been so long since I've gone out for a get-together with anyone." As she spoke, Cheng Qicai's mouth was practically watering.
