Chapter 56 Catching the Cat

After Zhong Yueya realized she couldn't get anything out of Gu Rongqi, she stopped talking to him much.

If it weren't for her father constantly emphasizing how outstanding he was, and Jiang Fuqiu also constantly reminding her that her later boyfriends were somewhat inferior to Gu Rongqi, she would have been even better off.

Zhong Yueya grew impatient and asked her to get back together, but she refused, feeling that she couldn't stand Gu Rongqi's seemingly considerate but insincere behavior.

Now Zhong Yueya finally understands Jiang Fuqiu's feelings.

Even now, despite her harsh words to him, Gu Rongqi's emotions seemed completely unaffected, perfectly adhering to social etiquette.

Seeing that she hadn't eaten much, Gu Rongqi asked, "Miss Zhong, are you full, or is the food here not to your liking?"

"No." Zhong Yueya sighed, wondering why she had been so stubborn. She put down her chopsticks and said to Gu Rongqi, "I'm done eating."

"Miss Zhong, would you like to see the night view? The night view here is quite nice."

“No need,” Zhong Yueya refused directly, “I’m going back.”

Gu Rong nodded and wiped his hands with a hot towel. "Alright, I'll take you back."

"No need, my driver is downstairs."

Zhong Yueya stood up to refuse, but Gu Rongqi still gentlemanly stood up and went out with her.

When Cheng Qicai and Gu Liji saw that the two were about to leave, they immediately sat up straight, turned their bodies to the side, and looked out the window at the same time.

Once they caught a glimpse of their figures disappearing completely from the doorway, they sat up straight and breathed a sigh of relief.

Cheng Qicai returned to her seat and looked at Gu Liji in bewilderment.

She saw Gu Liji with his arms crossed, looking very unhappy, seemingly even more dissatisfied with the blind date than Gu Rongqi himself.

After thinking for a long time, Cheng Qicai didn't know what to say, so she could only awkwardly say, "President Gu's dating website is quite complicated."

“There are only so many people in our circle, so it’s normal to meet anyone,” Gu Liji explained.

He then complained, "What kind of attitude is this woman? My brother is too nice to her. I don't know why he chose her for this blind date. Miss Wu is clearly much better!"

"Miss Wu?!" Cheng Qicai's interest was instantly piqued when she heard there was more juicy gossip to be had.

"Yes, my aunt introduced another blind date to my brother. She has a quiet and gentle personality. My uncle and aunt originally planned to find a girl of suitable age and family background for my brother and made a schedule for her."

Cheng Qicai was surprised that there was a scheduling system, like a job interview, and became even more curious, "Then why isn't it done this way?"

"My brother refused; he said he'd make the appointment himself."

Cheng Qicai asked a crucial question: "Wouldn't it be awkward for President Gu to invite his ex-girlfriend's best friend?"

Gu Liji was stumped by the question. He didn't understand why Gu Rongqi would make an appointment with Jiang Fuqiu's friend, even though he knew about their relationship.

Is his brother just as shameless as him?

Despite his thoughts, he still argued, "What's so embarrassing about it? It's not like we're having an affair or getting married. What's wrong with making plans?"

Cheng Qicai thought that made sense, but most people wouldn't talk to their ex's best friend, right?

Could it be that Gu Rongqi and Gu Liji are brothers, and therefore share the same thoughts in this regard?

She glanced suspiciously at Gu Liji's face. Although the two had different styles, they still looked somewhat similar, so it seemed not impossible that they had the same idea.

It must be said that Cheng Qicai and Gu Liji's thoughts at this moment overlapped to some extent.

Cheng Qicai gave a fake smile and continued, "Hehe, that's true. With both the man and woman unmarried, it wouldn't matter if President Gu went on dates with a hundred or eighty a day..."

Unexpectedly, Gu Liji suddenly became serious and emphasized to her solemnly, "Cheng Qicai, what nonsense are you talking about? My brother is a very devoted person."

"It wasn't you who started it..." Cheng Qicai didn't know why he changed his expression so quickly. Before she could finish speaking, she suddenly realized something and stiffly turned her head to look behind her.

She saw Gu Rongqi standing behind her, having listened for an unknown amount of time.

Cheng Qicai sensed that Gu Rongqi's expression seemed calm on the surface, but little did she know how many whirlpools lurked beneath the calm waters, just waiting to drag her in.

She glared at Gu Liji secretly, annoyed that he hadn't told her he saw his brother was coming.

Being caught talking badly about someone behind their back is incredibly embarrassing.

Upon receiving a look from Cheng Qicai, Gu Liji felt wronged. It wasn't that he was disloyal, but Gu Rongqi walked over without saying a word. He wanted to call for help, but his brother stopped him with a look.

All he could do was pray that Cheng Qicai would have good fortune.

But Cheng Qicai's opening remarks were explosive, and he had no idea what his brother thought. He only managed to interrupt her quickly, preventing her from saying anything even more outrageous.

Cheng Qicai mechanically raised her hand to greet him, "President Gu, what a coincidence!"

"Unfortunately, didn't you watch the whole thing?"

As soon as Gu Rongqi said that, Cheng Qicai and Gu Liji immediately lowered their heads like ostriches.

"Oh my god!" Cheng Qicai screamed inwardly, so when she felt Gu Rongqi looking at her halfway through, it wasn't a hallucination.

Cheng Qicai felt even more embarrassed. Despite the pleasantly warm restaurant temperature, beads of sweat had formed on her forehead.

“No,” Gu Liji bravely stepped forward, “Brother, we didn’t mean to either. It’s just that you guys happened to be behind us, and we accidentally overheard a little bit.”

"Is that so?" Gu Rongqi looked at the two of them with a half-smile.

He suddenly reached out to Cheng Qicai, took a green and yellow hair from the hair above her ear, and gently placed it on the table.

Cheng Qicai didn't realize Gu Rongqi was approaching for a moment until she saw what was on the table.

He easily shattered Gu Liji's words.

The two were exposed and remained silent for a moment.

Gu Liji glared at Cheng Qicai with a look of disappointment.

This time, Cheng Qicai felt wronged because she knew that Gu Rongqi had seen them long ago. Even if he didn't remove the green ivy stem from her hair, he would know that the two were eavesdropping.

Moreover, Gu Liji was the one who came up with the idea and carried it out; she merely went along with it, and the main responsibility still lay with Gu Liji.

Cheng Qicai mentally assigned responsibilities, which eased her tension considerably.

Seeing the two still glaring at each other privately, Gu Rongqi said, "Alright, it's not a big deal. You've heard it, so be it."

Seeing that Gu Rongqi didn't seem to mind, Cheng Qicai completely relaxed.

"Brother, would you like something else to eat?" Gu Liji asked obsequiously.

"No, you can eat it if you want."

Looking at the cold leftovers, Gu Liji asked, "We've finished eating, shall we go?"

Upon hearing that the two were about to leave, Cheng Qicai immediately said, "President Gu, why don't you go first? I want to watch the light show before you leave."

It's a rare opportunity to come all this way, and it would be such a waste to leave without seeing this free spot!
