Chapter 68 Lessons

When Gu Rongqi returned home, he first called for people to carry the dead-looking Gu Liji back to his room.

Then he handed the puppy from the gift bag to Wang Ben.

Wang Ben opened the gift bag and saw a dirty little mongrel inside. He couldn't understand where Gu Rongqi had brought it back from.

Gu Rongqi took off his coat and instructed him, "Give it a bath later, buy some dog toys and supplies tomorrow, and find a vet to take a look."

Wang Ben frowned. "Rong Qi, where did this come from? Are you going to keep it as a pet?"

“We picked it up from the trash can,” Gu Rongdian nodded, then thought for a moment and added, “We’ll clean out a room for it to live in.”

Trash can? Wang Ben didn't understand how Gu Rongqi could be associated with trash cans, and even bring back a stray dog.

However, he still nodded professionally: "Okay, I'll arrange it tomorrow."

He showed Gu Rongqi the schedule before he left, and only after confirming that there were no problems did he leave to make arrangements for the little mongrel with an unbelievable origin.

Gu Rongqi returned to his room and opened the gift bag that Cheng Qicai had given him.

There's a piece of cardstock on top.

He took it out and opened it, and there was a long passage written inside.

[Happy birthday to Gu Rongqi! May you be happy every day, blessed with peace and happiness, achieve great success in both love and career, be constantly lucky, stay young forever, live a long and healthy life...]

Starting with "Eternal Youth," the handwriting became increasingly flamboyant. Perhaps she herself felt that her writing was too exaggerated, so she crossed out the later strokes and drew them into small flowers.

However, upon closer inspection, it is still possible to discern what words have been crossed out.

At the very end, there's a large cartoon smiling face.

Gu Rongqi smiled when he saw the greeting card. It was the most special and numerous blessing he had received in all these years.

He closed the greeting card and took out the small box at the bottom.

He opened the lid and found a pair of gold geometric cufflinks. He looked at them for a moment, then casually put them and the greeting card into the bedside table drawer.

...

The next afternoon, Gu Liji rushed downstairs and saw Gu Rongqi's back. He ran up to him, touched his face, and asked as if the sky had fallen, "Brother, how did my handsome face get disfigured? Who the hell did this? I'll kill him!"

"You don't remember what happened yesterday?"

“I remember something,” Gu Liji recalled, “I think I saw an extremely disgusting face, then I punched him, he retaliated, and we started fighting…”

"Isn't this almost a memory?" Gu Rongqi looked at him with a half-smile.

Gu Liji gritted his teeth and said, "I will never let him get away with this! How dare he lay a hand on my handsome face!"

Gu Rongqi ignored his nonsense and sat on the stool replying to work messages.

Gu Liji saw that Gu Rongqi had changed into a smart, brand-new suit, and his hair was neatly styled, making him look both elegant and noble. Gu Liji began to feel resentful.

His brother was already more handsome than him, and now that he's been beaten up like a pig's head, standing next to him would make him even more unsightly.

There is no harm without comparison.

Wang Ben spoke from the side, "Liji, it's already two o'clock in the afternoon."

"Isn't the birthday party starting at six in the afternoon? There's still time." Gu Liji didn't really want to go because he was disfigured, but considering that his family members would be attending, including his parents, it was impossible for him not to go.

Resigned to his fate and refusing to think about his face, he asked Wang Ben beside him with a look of utter despair, "Uncle Wang, what's there to eat? I'm starving."

Wang Ben said, "I'll go check on the kitchen."

While waiting, Gu Liji half-closed his eyes and let his mind wander. He was now a ravaged flower, no longer perfect, all because of that bastard... Realizing that he was thinking about that again, he immediately deleted these negative emotions.

Hmm, it feels so good to have my mind blank.

Suddenly, he felt something biting and dragging his slippers along.

He suddenly opened his eyes wide, looked down, and saw a small, yellow, scruffy mongrel.

He gave it a light kick and watched as Little Nose fell to the ground, just as he had hoped.

Seeing its misfortune, Gu Liji laughed happily.

He picked it up and shook it, asking Gu Rongqi with disdain, "Brother, where did you get this little mongrel? It's so tacky. If you're going to raise a dog, you should get a Doberman, a Czechoslovakian, or a German Shepherd. They're so much cooler!"

"Don't tease it!" Gu Rongqi's eyes held a hidden warning.

"Okay!" Gu Liji saw that his brother was a little serious, so he put the little dog on the ground.

As if it held a grudge against him, the moment it was put down, it pounced on his shoes and started biting them.

Hey, this little brat, he's really pushing his luck!

Gu Liji was about to gently kick him away again, but when he saw Gu Rongqi staring at him, he sheepishly put his foot down.

He thought his brother was joking when he told him he wanted to get the dog, but he didn't expect it to be true.

"Brother, what's its name?"

"Golden Beans".

"Huh?!" Gu Liji exclaimed in disbelief, thinking he had misheard.

What a terrible name, so incredibly tacky.

But when he saw the little dog wag its tail and run to him immediately after hearing Gu Rongqi call out that name, he was certain that the dog really was called that.

Gu Liji muttered, "Why did you choose such a terrible name..."

He received another warning from Gu Rongqi and shut his mouth.

Honestly, now in his brother's eyes he's less than a dog.

The cook brought out the food, and Gu Liji's resentment turned into appetite, and he ate heartily.

Smelling the aroma of food, Golden Bean sidled up to Gu Liji's feet. When Gu Liji saw it coming, he didn't dare kick it anymore. Instead, he disgustedly pushed it away, saying, "Get away, you sycophant who will follow whoever feeds him."

"Lackey?!" Gu Liji felt like he had said that word before, but he couldn't remember when he had said it.

Gu Rongqi, who was standing next to him, turned to look at him and said seriously, "Don't drink so much in the future, and don't force others to drink with you just because you want to."

He'll admit he shouldn't drink too much! But he doesn't always let himself be and drag others along with him.

Gu Liji thought for a moment. Yesterday, all he could do was drag Cheng Qicai out for drinks.

So you're talking about...Cheng Qicai? She's the one who complained?

He's always been so good to her, and yet he turns around and talks badly about her.

Gu Liji, already furious, gritted his teeth even more, determined to teach Cheng Qicai a lesson tomorrow.
