Chapter 7 The First Wife vs. the Mistress

"I also often helped him handle his mistress's affairs at the company, but my cousin was naive and easily fooled by him..."

Cheng Qicai launched into a long rant about Gu Liji.

The brother-in-law also called out in an exceptionally smooth voice; after all, calling out once was the same as calling out twice, and it was just because they liked to hear it.

However, as the official couple, Cheng Qicai still supports Lu Qi more.

After all, she had already been given the correct answers.

And can a mere five hundred yuan really compare to a car or a bag?

That's definitely not possible.

Seeing that Lu Qi didn't interrupt her complaints about Gu Liji, Cheng Qicai knew that she had figured out his preferences.

"Alright, we've been talking for quite a while now, you should go back." Lu Qi interrupted her after he had heard enough bad things about Li Ji.

The two exchanged contact information. After Cheng Qicai finished adding the dishes, she returned to the private room. She opened the door a crack and listened carefully.

Relieved that he hadn't heard the two talking about Lu Qi, he pushed open the door and went inside.

She placed her phone face down on the table while she was on a call.

"Qicai, how is your work under Liji?" Yun Suni suddenly asked her with concern.

"Brother Gu takes good care of me." Cheng Qicai came back to her senses, her eyes widened slightly, her tone filled with gratitude, and her expression was particularly sincere. "I have to thank you, Sister, for finding me such a good boss as Brother Gu. Brother Gu is handsome and has a good temper."

"No way, Su Ni, don't you trust me with Qi Cai?" Gu Liji laughed so hard his eyes sparkled. "Although I don't have Lu Qi's abilities, I'm much easier to get along with. I won't put as much pressure on people, which makes me a perfect fit to be the boss of a college graduate like Qi Cai who has just started working."

Cheng Qicai nodded repeatedly in flattery.

"Although I can't give Qicai much training, I will definitely protect her in the company."

Then, her tone turned somber as she said, "You know, my cousin is in charge of the company. I'm just an average person, and I only got in because of my dad's connections. My cousin is wary of me, and Secretary Lin is someone he sent to monitor me. I'm so grateful that you brought Qicai here; it's made my work at the company much easier."

Gu Liji lowered his eyes, a few strands of hair falling across his smooth forehead. He had lost the cheerful demeanor he had when chatting, and his words were filled with sorrow and helplessness. Only towards the end did his tone rise, as if he had truly been encouraged.

His intonation was perfectly timed, capturing the female lead's sympathy; anyone who didn't know better would have thought he was having a really tough time at the company.

Cheng Qicai glanced at the phone lying face down, wondering how angry Lu Qi would be if he heard Gu Liji's veiled criticism of the female lead.

If it weren't for his affectionate way of calling Gu Rongqi "brother," his carefree attitude all day long, his reluctance to come to the company, and his completely idle job to chase girls, Cheng Qicai would have been fooled by his demeanor.

It's a real shame he didn't pursue a career in film and television; he has such great acting skills.

She takes every opportunity to criticize the male lead, leaving no stone unturned; it's really too much.

Cheng Qicai wasn't fooled, but the female lead clearly took it seriously. She earnestly said to Cheng Qicai, "Qicai, please help Liji more at the company."

Cheng Qicai: "..."

Although she didn't understand why Yun Su Ni could so easily believe what others said, Cheng Qi Cai still nodded obediently.
