Chapter 79 Heartbreak

On Cheng Qicai's desk calendar, today's date was marked with a red circle, signifying that it was the day the female lead was going to meet the male lead's parents.

Cheng Qicai was absent-minded all day, glancing at the time in the lower right corner of her computer screen every now and then. Anxiety filled her heart, wondering how far along the female lead's meeting with her parents had gone.

As soon as it was time to leave work, Cheng Qicai grabbed her bag from the table, rushed out of the company, and made a phone call to the female lead.

The phone rang for a long time, but no one answered.

She ran to Yun Suni's house and knocked on the door.

Still no one.

Has he not returned yet?

She turned around and went home, waited for an hour, and then called Yun Suni again.

It rang for a long time, but no one answered.

Cheng Qicai sensed something was wrong, hesitated for a moment, and then called Lu Qi.

"Hey, Brother Lu, aren't you guys back yet?"

Lu Qi's voice was no different from usual, "Is there something wrong? Su Ni should be home. I just took her home and she's on her way back to the villa now."

"It's nothing, I just wanted to visit my sister. I couldn't get through to her on the phone, so I thought you guys weren't back yet. I'll just go to her house to find her."

Cheng Qicai hung up the phone and ran to Yun Suni's house to knock on the door.

There was still no movement; the floor was empty and silent except for the sound of my own knocking.

She patiently knocked on the door for another minute, then called out, "Sister, I know you're home."

After shouting, Cheng Qicai waited for about ten seconds before leaning against the door and hearing footsteps approaching from inside.

The door was opened.

The first thing Cheng Qicai saw was Yun Su Ni's pale face, and her lips were a pale pink, like the flesh of a freshly ripened watermelon.

Her eyes were red and swollen, and her once distinct eyelashes were sticky with tears. Even if there were no tears in her eyes now, it was not hard to imagine how Yun Su Ni had cried before she opened the door.

"Qicai." He called her name with a forced smile, making Cheng Qicai feel guilty and heartbroken.

When the heart-wrenching descriptions in the novel came to life, Cheng Qicai easily felt her sadness.

It's like switching from a 2D movie to a 3D movie in an instant; the immersive experience is truly breathtaking.

She asked cautiously, "Sister, are you alright?"

"It's alright, come in and sit down." Yun Suni stepped aside to let her in.

As Cheng Qicai brushed past her as she entered, she caught a glimpse of Yun Su Ni wiping away tears from the corner of her eye.

Yun Su Ni tried her best to keep her voice steady, "Water or something else?"

"I won't drink," Cheng Qicai said, sitting down on the sofa. "Sister, did Lu Ge's parents say something to you?"

Yun Su Ni opened her lips, but her throat felt like it was choked by a wet sponge, and the tears she had been holding back flowed out before she could say anything.

Cheng Qicai panicked when she saw Yun Suni's tears and quickly grabbed a tissue from the table and handed it to Yun Suni.

Yun Suni took the tissue and started wiping her eyes, but once the floodgates opened, how could she easily stop the tears?

Cheng Qicai could only silently hand her a new tissue as she cried herself to sleep, soaking one tissue after another.

Suppressed sobs echoed in the room, one low, one high.

Cheng Qicai felt that the room was so big that her heart felt like it was in a vast grassland, lost and unable to find its way home; yet it was also so small that she could hear the cries of regret and guilt echoing in her mind.

To speak or not to speak, is a battle between heaven and man.

but……

No one is binding me, so why can't I speak out?

Cheng Qicai swallowed hard, unsure how to begin. "Sister, actually, Lu Ge didn't know what his parents said. Don't be sad. Once Lu Ge finds out, he'll handle it."

"I'll call Brother Lu right now and tell him about this." With that, Cheng Qicai took out her phone, ready to call Lu Qi.

But as soon as she unlocked her phone, Yun Suni pressed it down, her body temperature, cold as ice, onto her hand.

Yun Suni said in a hoarse, tearful voice, "Don't hit me."

"Sister," Cheng Qicai said anxiously, scratching her hair, "Really, you have to believe me, Brother Lu will really solve it."

The cold body temperature did not disappear from the back of the hand.

Seeing that she remained unmoved, Cheng Qicai gritted her teeth and revealed everything, "Actually, you and Brother Lu are the male and female protagonists of a novel, and I am a reader of your novel. I know that Brother Lu's parents are trying to make things difficult for you this time..."

Her voice trailed off, “If I hadn’t told you… you wouldn’t be so heartbroken. If I had told you earlier not to go, or just let Brother Lu handle it, things wouldn’t have turned out this way.”

Upon hearing Cheng Qicai's words, Yun Suni stopped crying, staring at her with wide eyes in surprise.

Cheng Qicai felt uncomfortable being stared at and nervously gripped her phone tightly.

So what kind of reaction is this? Is it belief or disbelief?

If you don't believe it, shouldn't you jump up and say she's lying to ghosts?

No, that's a reaction only she would have. Yun Su Ni should be telling her, in a very materialistic way, that such a bizarre thing couldn't possibly happen in the world.

As she was lost in thought, Yun Su Ni spoke up, but what she said was not what she had in mind: "It's not your fault. Even if you had said so earlier, you changed my mind, not his parents' mind. I can't go my whole life without ever seeing his parents."

"But if you had known earlier, you could have been mentally prepared. Brother Lu loves you so much, he would have talked to his parents."

"Telling me this only makes me worry earlier, but I won't change my mind about meeting his parents today, nor will I tell him."

Cheng Qicai didn't understand, "Why?"

"Because there's no such thing as knowing beforehand; everything will happen at just the right time. Either now or in the future."

"But your story has already reached its conclusion, and the answer is clear. Since you already know it, there's no need to go through all the heartbreaking things in between, right?"

Yun Su Ni sighed and looked at her seriously. "Qi Cai, every story has a process from beginning to end. No story goes straight to the end right from the beginning. This process is my life, and it is what I must experience."

Cheng Qicai still didn't understand, "So what are you planning to do next?"

“Follow your heart,” Yun Suni paused, then said, “You don’t need to tell me about my and Lu Qi’s ending.”

Cheng Qicai opened her mouth and then closed it again, thinking that what she knew about the future would help them.

Seeing Cheng Qicai's expression, Yun Su Ni asked her, "If I told you that in two years, you would become a billionaire no matter what, what would you do?"

Cheng Qicai imagined for a moment, "Then I'll definitely just lie down and relax. Anyway, I'll be a millionaire in two years."

Yun Su Ni asked again, "But how can you be sure that you will really become a millionaire in two years?"

Cheng Qicai didn't know what to say.

"Therefore, I don't want to confine myself with a predetermined ending, nor do I want this 'ending' to influence every decision I make. Lu Qi and I will decide our own future."
