Extra Chapter 8: Taking Care of a Child

"Haha, I'll let you be the little teacher later and let you teach your uncle." Cheng Qicai smiled mischievously at Gu Rongqi.

"Hmm, I'll teach him after I finish eating." Lu Yiyuan said, shaking his head. "Auntie, I want to eat chestnuts."

"Okay." Cheng Qicai held the chestnut between her index and middle fingers and aimed it at him. "Come on, let's see if you can catch it, One-Finger Divine Skill—"

Cheng Qicai flicked the chestnut between her fingers towards him, and Lu Yiyuan could catch it by simply reaching forward slightly.

"Yueyue, are you ready?" she asked, looking at Gu Xinyue who had just finished eating candied hawthorn.

Gu Xinyue nodded, and Cheng Qicai flicked a ball at her in the same way.

After several rounds, the two were overjoyed when Cheng Qicai suddenly pointed the ball at Gu Rongqi beside them.

Before Gu Rongqi could react, he was lightly tapped on the forehead with a chestnut.

Gu Xinyue laughed and said, "Haha, Daddy's reaction is so slow."

Compared to Gu Xinyue's tactful words, Lu Yiyuan's words were much more direct: "Uncle is so stupid."

Gu Rongqi looked at the chestnut that had fallen into his arms, silently picked it up, peeled it, and ate it.

The game didn't last long; Cheng Qicai only used it to distract the two from the food.

When Gu Xinyue returned to her room to sleep that night, Cheng Qicai brought in a candied hawthorn and handed it to Gu Rongqi.

Seeing Cheng Qicai staring at him as he ate, he asked, "Want some?"

"Okay, you eat half first, and I'll eat the other half." She knew that Gu Rongqi didn't like candied hawthorns, so it was reasonable for each person to eat half of such a big skewer.

"Didn't you say you were buying it for me?"

"I bought it for you, it's the same whether you eat it or I eat it." Cheng Qicai looked at the candied hawthorn in his hand.

Gu Rongqi gave a soft "hmm," tore off a candied hawthorn from the bamboo skewer, bit off half of it, and lowered his head to press the other half of the candied hawthorn against her lips.

This isn't how you categorize candied hawthorns! Cheng Qicai thought to herself.

Despite thinking this way, she hesitated for a moment, but still opened her mouth and took a bite.

The cloying way of sharing candied hawthorns eventually turned into a sweet and sour kiss.
