Chapter 215

She returned home with heavy steps, threw herself onto the sofa, and pondered in the dark room.

She seemed to have thought about a lot of things, yet she also seemed to have thought about nothing at all.

Slowly, her eyes closed, and when she was awakened by the vibration of her phone, she was startled.

I picked up the phone and saw that it was Wu Jieyu.

Cheng Qicai said unhappily, "Hey, what are you doing? You scared me half to death. I was sleeping."

"Oh... going to sleep? Are you up to something naughty? I might give you a big scare," Wu Jieyu said ambiguously.

"Get rid of that filthy nonsense in your head. I'm just lying here alone, trying to sleep, okay?" Cheng Qicai was speechless. "Seriously, what do you want to say?"

"It's nothing, I broke up with my boyfriend," Wu Jieyu said nonchalantly.

Cheng Qicai immediately perked up, sat up abruptly, and asked with feigned concern, "What happened? Tell me in detail."

Wu Jieyu didn't care about Cheng Qicai's gossipy tone. "It's nothing. We just felt that it wasn't interesting for us to stay together anymore, so we broke up."

"Oh, a normal breakup is fine." Cheng Qicai wasn't surprised. After all, Wu Jieyu had dated so many people, and she had heard all sorts of bizarre breakup reasons.

This normalcy actually dampened her spirits.

Wu Jieyu suddenly changed the subject and asked her with great interest, "Are you coming to B City for fun? Anyway, you have money and free time now, and I also have time. We can go out for a couple of days and help me get over my breakup."

"Do you look like you've just broken up? And you made me come all this way."

"You can't assume I'm not sad just because I'm talking normally now. I'm just suppressing my sadness right now."

Cheng Qicai hesitated for a moment, then the image of Gu Rongqi inexplicably popped into her mind. She licked her slightly chapped lips and said to Wu Jieyu, "Okay."

She thought that changing her location would help her sort out her thoughts, and she would come back to talk things out with Gu Rongqi after spending two days in City B.

She bought a plane ticket to City B for tomorrow on her phone.

But because she had slept for so long, she wasn't sleepy at all that night. After packing her luggage, she stayed up until two or three in the morning watching videos before finally falling asleep.

Fortunately, her flight was for the afternoon, so she could sleep until 11 o'clock before packing.

She always felt a vague sense of unease when she turned off her phone while boarding the plane.

She thought about it for a moment. Was it because she had gasged the gas or left the door open? With that thought, she really started to suspect it.

But since she was already there, she figured she could ask someone to check on her after she got off the plane, since she only had about forty minutes anyway.

When Cheng Qicai got off the plane, she immediately spotted Wu Jieyu at the arrivals gate and waved excitedly.

Wu Jieyu excitedly shared her plans, "Later, let's put your suitcase in my dorm first, then we'll go eat. There's a movie I really want to see, do you want to go?"

“Okay!” Cheng Qicai nodded.

The two took a taxi to Wu Jieyu's school and put their luggage in Wu Jieyu's dormitory.

Wu Jieyu's dormitory is a two-person room, and her other roommate has gone out to play for the past two days and will not be returning to the dormitory.

She had already informed the other party that her friend wanted to stay in her dorm room for one night, and only after receiving the other party's consent did she allow Cheng Qicai to sleep with her.

Looking at the books on Wu Jieyu's bookshelf, Cheng Qicai couldn't help but sigh, "I really didn't expect someone like you to be able to get into graduate school..."

“Don’t even mention it, I doubted myself back then,” Wu Jieyu grinned. “You know how shocked the people in our village were when I got into graduate school? Now when I think about how they could fit ten eggs in their mouths, I just want to laugh.”

Cheng Qicai laughed as she listened to Wu Jieyu's exaggerated description.

She also recalled that people in the village used to say that someone like Wu Jieyu, who had never learned anything good since childhood, with her lips smeared like pig's blood and clothes that showed her waist and legs, was likely to be ruined in the future.

But it was precisely these kinds of people they were talking about who eventually became some of the few highly educated people in their village.

"Haha, I know, now everyone in the village says you've made something of yourself."

"You're really something, becoming a big boss already." Wu Jieyu clicked her tongue twice, daydreaming, "Tell me, if we had started our own business right after graduation, wouldn't I be a big boss now? It would be so much better than having to find a job after graduation..."

"Come on, you know why my shop was able to open! If the two of us had tried to start a business back then, we would have starved to death on the streets within half a month."

“That’s true,” Wu Jieyu said regretfully, then exclaimed, “Why don’t I have such a rich brother-in-law!”

As they talked, the two walked out of the campus and went to the university's commercial street outside to look for dinner.

The two sat at a small stall eating rice noodles in a clay pot, watching the students coming and going around them.

Cheng Qicai felt as if she had returned to the carefree days of her university days.

After finishing their rice noodles, the two went to see the movie that Wu Jieyu wanted to see. When they came out, it was still early, so they strolled around the shopping street for a while.

Then I bought another serving of fried chicken strips to eat at home.

Cheng Qicai was stuffing chicken strips into her mouth when Gu Rongqi's message popped up, asking what she was doing.

She took a picture of the chicken strips in her hand and sent it to them.

Then Gu Rongqi's message came quickly: [Where are you?]

Cheng Qicai clicked on her own photo and couldn't tell that she wasn't home.

Cheng Qicai replied: [My friend.]

[Not coming back today?]

[Um.]

Wu Jieyu noticed that her hand had stopped, and turned to look at her. "Who were you talking to? Why are you laughing so happily?"

Cheng Qicai rolled her eyes at her and exited the chat interface, saying, "Not with anyone."

"Hmph, you think you can fool a dating expert like me? You're still too green."

Seeing that Wu Jieyu wasn't going to interrogate her, Cheng Qicai remained silent for a while before telling her about her relationship with Gu Rongqi.

“Ha,” Wu Jieyu stood up, put his right foot on the stool, raised his chin, and looked at her triumphantly, “What did I tell you? What did I tell you? I told you he liked you! You didn’t believe me then. Truth is in the hands of the few.”

"Good, good, you're smart. No wonder you're the third graduate student in our village," Cheng Qicai praised sarcastically.

Unaffected by her, Wu Jieyu continued, "Such a good, rich, and handsome guy, and you can still resist agreeing to be with him? You're like a ninja turtle! I really admire you."

"You know that..."

"Yes, yes, I know you want to stick to one path to the end, but life isn't always so wonderful, where you can meet someone without lifting a finger. Of course, there are such opportunities, but the facts prove that you haven't."

Cheng Qicai remained silent. She knew Wu Jieyu was right; the facts proved that she was indeed not such a lucky person.
