Cheng Qicai never expected to get married this year. As for how it was decided, that story begins when Qianzhi and Gulubo met Lu Yiyuan.
That day, Cheng Qicai and Lu Yiyuan waited for Gu Rongqi under Ou Qi's place, and Qian Zhi and the others came out with him.
Qianzhi looked at the chubby, well-behaved, and adorable Lu Yiyuan and asked, "Is this Lu Qi's child?"
“Yes, his full name is Lu Yiyuan, and his nickname is Yuanyuan.” Cheng Qicai nodded and said to Lu Yiyuan, “Yuanyuan, call him Grandpa and Grandma.”
Lu Yiyuan called out to Qianzhi and the others in a childish voice, "Grandpa...Grandma..."
"Yuanyuan, hello." Qianzhi touched Lu Yiyuan's small hand and smiled at him.
"Here..." Lu Yiyuan handed the cod sausage to Qianzhi. After watching her take it, he took out another rice cake from his overalls and handed it to Gu Lubo. "Grandpa..."
Gu Lubo was taken aback, his expression softening slightly. He smiled and accepted it, "Thank you, Yuanyuan."
Lu Yiyuan distributed his snacks to everyone present. Seeing that Qianzhi and the others weren't eating, he urged them to eat, "Grandpa...Grandma...eat...eat..."
"Okay, let's eat."
Under his "supervision," Chihiro and the others put the snacks in their mouths.
Watching them eat, Lu Yiyuan took out another cod sausage and gave it to Gu Rongqi, "Uncle, peel it."
Lu Yiyuan's speech is still not fluent; it comes out in a bouncy, halting manner, like a little robot that's stuck.
Gu Rongqi peeled the cheese stick and put it in his mouth, then took Lu Yiyuan from Cheng Qicai's arms, saying, "Let me do it."
Even with the sudden change of personnel, Lu Yiyuan remained calm. He slowly chewed on the cheese stick in his mouth, and after he finished, he obediently handed the remaining stick to Cheng Qicai.
Cheng Qicai wiped his mouth with a tissue. Because Gu Rongqi had grown much taller, he tilted Lu Yiyuan down slightly to make it easier for Cheng Qicai.
Chihiro and Grubb looked at the two of them and exchanged a glance.
Qianzhi suddenly said to them, "Rongqi, do you have any plans for when you're getting married?"
Cheng Qicai paused, and looked at Gu Rongqi.
How did we suddenly get onto the topic of marriage? But when it comes to marriage, it depends on whether you mean registering the marriage or having a wedding ceremony. If it's just registering the marriage...
"There's no rush," Gu Rongqi said.
Gu Lubo looked at him and said, "You're thirty years old too, and Lu Qi is a year younger than you. His child can already call people, so why isn't he in a hurry?"
“Yes,” Qianzhi looked at Cheng Qicai, “Qicai, what are you thinking?”
Qianzhi and the others also understood that this matter mainly depended on Cheng Qicai.
"Auntie, this marriage... we've actually already gotten our marriage certificate," Cheng Qicai said cautiously.
Qianzhi asked in surprise, "When did you receive it?"
Gu Rongqi replied, "On March 6th."
Qianzhi disagreed but was not dissatisfied. "It's been months. Why didn't you tell us about something this big?"
It's June now, so three months have passed.
Upon hearing her mention Gu Rongqi, Cheng Qicai said apologetically, "This is my fault, Auntie. I... I just didn't really want to have a wedding, so I didn't tell him to."
In fact, their decision to get their marriage certificate on March 6th was a very hasty and simple one, and they were able to do so entirely because of Cheng Qicai's impulsiveness.
At the time, Cheng Qicai was looking for a cabinet to put her newly bought model puzzle, and while searching, she somehow found a bunch of "junk".
These "junk" items looked somewhat familiar to Cheng Qicai; they all seemed to be related to her. She had to think for a while to remember when some of them had happened, such as the paper-cut mandarin ducks and the winter plum blossoms in the sachet…
But what surprised her most was that the lantern they had painted together for the Lantern Festival was also there.
She ran to the study with the lantern and found Gu Rongqi. At the door, she saw him just looking at documents. She put the lantern behind her back and quietly walked to the opposite side of him.
"What's wrong?" Cheng Qicai had noticed her furtive figure when she reached the door.
"Hehe... Look what I found!" Before he could react, Cheng Qicai took the lantern out from behind her back, held it up in front of him and waved it, "Ta-da!"
"How did you find this?" Gu Rongqi's gaze fell on the lantern and then moved to her face.
Cheng Qicai said with some pride, "In the closet in the bedroom, I didn't expect you to have it so deep inside."
Gu Rongqi smiled but didn't say anything.
Not seeing any embarrassment on Gu Rongqi's face, Cheng Qicai was somewhat disappointed. She asked, "Shouldn't this lantern be hanging on a tree at the lantern festival? How come it's at home?"
“Once the Lantern Festival is over, these lanterns will be taken down and destroyed. I felt it was a pity to destroy them like this, so I sent someone to retrieve them the next day.”
Gu Rongqi spoke calmly, but Cheng Qicai couldn't help but smile and her hand holding the lantern kept shaking. "Why do you keep things like flowers and paper? They're just ordinary things."
“Each item inside is a souvenir for me.” Gu Rongqi looked at the lanterns swaying from side to side. “Yes, a souvenir that touches my heart.”
Cheng Qicai's eyes flickered slightly, and she couldn't help but exclaim in amazement, "Wow, that's too... unfair."
Cheng Qicai couldn't describe the feeling in her heart. Her heart was like a balloon filled with air, as if it would burst the next second if she didn't say or do something to let some air out.
So she walked over to him, bent down and turned the office chair Gu Rongqi was sitting in so that it faced her. She looked seriously into Gu Rongqi's eyes and asked, "Do you want to get your marriage certificate?"
"Get...a marriage certificate?" The topic changed so quickly that Gu Rongqi was stunned for a moment.
