After the two of them talked things out, Gu Liji could now openly and legitimately go to see Yan Zhi.
Although he couldn't see Yan Zhi at first, he had his own methods.
If the company can't see you, wait downstairs at the company; if your home can't see you, wait at your doorstep. There's always a way to overcome difficulties.
After this happened several times, Yan Zhi got annoyed.
When Gu Liji handed her another large bouquet of roses, she no longer refused politely, but instead waved it away unhappily, saying, "Enough, I said stop bothering me."
Gu Liji smiled, not paying attention to her attitude, put away the flowers, and walked to Yan Zhi's side with his arms around her.
"You must be so busy at work every day. You've lost so much weight."
Yan Zhi sneered, "Don't you know why I'm so busy? You deserve some credit for it, don't you?"
Thinking about the projects he had stolen, Gu Liji touched his nose guiltily.
He changed the subject, "I've made a reservation at a restaurant, would you do me the honor of dining there?"
His smile was sly, and his high-set, almond-shaped eyes gave him a charming and affectionate look. Coupled with the vibrant red roses in his arms, he drew frequent glances from passersby.
But Yan Zhi wasn't having any of it. "No need, I'm going back!"
Gu Liji readily agreed, "Alright, I'll take you back."
"No need, I have a car."
Gu Liji didn't say anything and followed her to the garage.
Yan Zhi usually drives herself unless there's something important to do. She finds that driving with music on after a long day is a great way to de-stress.
She got in the car and started moving it a little when she realized something was wrong. She got out and saw that the right rear tire was flat.
Without even thinking, she knew who had done it.
She glared angrily at Gu Liji, who was leaning against his car, and yelled, "Gu Liji, are you sick in the head?!"
“Let’s go,” he stepped forward and pulled the furious Yan Zhi away, “Now it’s my turn to take you home.”
Yan Zhi struggled fiercely, trying her best to shake off Gu Liji's hand.
But Gu Liji's car was parked right next to her, and before she could shake him off, she was shoved into the car. She tried to open the door while Gu Liji got to the driver's seat, but after pulling hard twice, she knew that Gu Liji had locked the car from the outside with the key.
Before she could even touch the door lock button, Gu Liji had already opened the door and sat down inside.
"Shh!" Gu Liji turned to look at her, his index finger lightly placed on his lips. "Don't say anything that will hurt me. If I get upset and can't drive well, we'll be doomed as a pair of star-crossed lovers."
"Idiot!"
Gu Liji wasn't angry when he heard her use the foul language. Instead, he jokingly said, "Oh, our academic star girl can swear too! That's rare! I feel quite honored to hear those two words from you!"
Yan Zhi closed her eyes in anger; now, talking to Gu Liji only brought her anger.
The rich scent of roses filled the car, but Yan Zhi only felt more irritated. Gu Liji was like a stubborn plaster, impossible to shake off.
For the first time, she felt a pang of regret, wondering if she should never have chosen Gu Liji in the first place.
However, saying anything now would be pointless. She mentally plotted how to get rid of Gu Liji.
Before I could come up with a good solution, the car had already arrived at my home.
Without saying a word, she opened the car door and got out, and Gu Liji jogged a few steps to catch up with her.
As they reached the door, Yan Zhi turned around and blocked his path as he tried to follow her inside. "Young Master Gu, now that you've delivered him, please leave."
"Can I come in and sit for a while?" Gu Liji said, walking around her.
Seeing her bandit-like behavior, Yan Zhi frowned and followed behind him. "Young Master Gu, you can sit if you want, but I'm tired after a long day and I need to rest."
After saying that, she asked the housekeeper to look after Gu Liji and went upstairs.
As the door was about to close, it encountered resistance. Yan Zhi looked closely and realized that Gu Liji was blocking the door again.
She stared at Gu Liji through the crack in the door for a long time, her hand on the door locked in a stalemate with Gu Liji's.
Yan Zhi looked at him and quickly withdrew her hand. Gu Liji was caught off guard and lost his balance, staggering and falling into the house.
He braced himself with his hands on the ground, stabilizing himself before landing. A soft laugh came from beside him, "Young Master Gu, there's no need for such a grand gesture to come in."
"..." Gu Liji stood up and glared at her slightly, then clapped his hands nonchalantly, walked to the sofa in her bedroom and sat down. "Yan Zhi, you really are... awful."
“I’ve already rejected you, haven’t I? You came in here of your own accord, it’s entirely your own fault.”
“Yes, I brought this on myself.” Gu Liji readily admitted, “So, you provoked me before, and now you’re in this situation because of your own actions.”
Yan Zhi was uncharacteristically speechless. After a moment of silence, she asked, "What exactly do you want?"
"Don't you know what I want?"
"I haven't fallen for you in a year, do you really think I'll fall for you later?"
"How will you know if you don't try?" Gu Liji raised an eyebrow. "I like you now, but as for what will happen later, I can't say for sure."
This uncertainty actually sounds very sincere. If he kept saying that she was his only one and only, she would feel it was hypocritical.
Therefore, Yan Zhi felt that what he said made sense. Given their personalities, pure and sincere love was destined to be impossible for them.
Seeing the wavering in Yan Zhi's eyes, Gu Liji pressed on, "With me, you can be as convenient as before."
After weighing the pros and cons in her mind, Yan Zhi smiled and said, "Okay, I agree."
The two officially got together just like that. It wasn't like a sweet confession; it was more like a transaction that had been completed, serious and solemn.
Actually, she didn't really care about being with Gu Liji. Although she didn't like Gu Liji, who would refuse benefits offered to them?
Besides, Gu Liji is much better than other rich second-generation men; otherwise, she wouldn't have chosen him for a "marriage alliance" in the first place.
