The mutated "Shadow" assassin could no longer be called human. His joints creaked and groaned, each movement accompanied by a heavy stench of blood and decay. His once human eyes were now consumed by a dark madness, staring intently at Long Aobing as if she were the greatest obstacle preventing his "ascension."
"Die...die! Become my master...no, become my ladder to ascension!" He roared incoherently, his figure flashed, leaving behind a faint wisp of black smoke. When he reappeared, he was already in front of Long Aobing, a claw covered in black keratin, with a sharp shriek that tore through the air, grabbing for her throat!
Long Aobing's pupils contracted; this speed, this power, was far superior to what it had been before! She pushed off with her feet, her body arching backward at an incredible angle, narrowly avoiding the fatal blow. The claw's force grazed her nose, the resulting gust of wind stinging her cheek.
"So fast! Such power!" Long Aobing performed a backflip to create distance, her face showing shock beyond mere solemnity for the first time. "What kind of monster is this guy?!"
"Brother Qin Xiao! 'Yun Rou's' energy analysis module is about to overload! This guy... this guy is absorbing the dissipated energy from the deaths of other 'Shadows'! He's getting stronger!" Shu Rou frantically operated the tablet, fine beads of sweat appearing on her forehead. "His body structure is undergoing irreversible malignant mutations! I... I can't interfere with his core operational logic anymore!"
On the screen, around the red dot representing the mutant killer, several similar dots of light appeared, dimming as they emerged. Strands of black energy were connecting those dots to the red dot.
Qin Xiao stared at a slightly bulging area on the chest of the mutated assassin, radiating an ominous dark light—the very spot where the "original system core fragment" had fused. He quickly concluded, "His core is that fragment! That idiot Ye Chen probably used his remaining luck and the lives of these 'Shadows' as fuel to activate this forbidden object!"
"Then what should we do? Just blow him to bits?" Long Aobing cracked her knuckles, the short blade spinning in her hand. She was eager to try, but also hesitant. These unkillable monsters were the most troublesome.
