Youyou was completely flustered. The short distance of less than two miles into the city had somehow made her act like a superstar on a red carpet. More and more people were gathering around, and the undisguised desire in everyone's eyes made every hair on Youyou's body stand on end like a radar.
Her mind involuntarily flashed through numerous criminal case records, and she had to admit, she was a little panicked!
Scanning the densely packed crowd, it took a while to notice something unusual about the city. All the onlookers were men; not a single woman was in sight.
Is it because there are too few women in this city that they are staring at her like this?
"Make way!" Seeing that the road was about to be completely blocked, Lin Feng, who was clearing the way, suddenly shouted at the crowd. He drew his long sword from his side and pointed it at the crowd. The sharp sword energy pushed the people in front of him several feet away, and an invisible killing intent instantly overflowed.
The other team members seemed to realize something as well, and intentionally or unintentionally surrounded Youyou, watching the people around them warily.
The crowd, which had been steadily closing in, paused, seemingly genuinely startled by Lin Feng's actions. Their gazes toward You You remained fiery, but they still slowly made way for him.
The group continued on their way, and Youyou silently gave them a thumbs up, letting out a slight sigh of relief. She had known last night that they were going to take her to the City Lord's Mansion, which was essentially the official organization here. Lin Feng said that the City Lord would try to find out about her background before sending her home.
Youyou didn't hold out much hope of going home, after all, she wasn't from this world. But right now, she wanted to leave this small town that made her so uncomfortable as soon as possible, feeling that if she stayed any longer, some crime might occur.
They were hesitating about how to start the conversation when they met the official organization. To their utter surprise, they found no one there.
The city lord's mansion was tightly shut, and the entrance was deserted, without even a guard. With a gentle push, the door creaked open, revealing a scene of utter chaos inside, as if it had just been ransacked.
Not only You You, but even Lin Feng and the others were a little confused.
Later, those who had followed them all the way saw through their intentions and immediately started chiming in with their own words.
"Are you looking for the city lord? He left two days ago, saying that the beast tide came suddenly and he needed to inform the immortal sect!"
"Yes, they left very quickly, leaving no one behind in the entire city lord's mansion. They probably won't be back for several months."
"If it weren't for the protective array left by the immortal sect in the city, which blocked the beast tide, this city would have been breached long ago."
"Lin Feng, what do you want with the city lord? Are you here to escort this young lady? We can help!"
"Yes, yes, the city lord's guards aren't even as strong as our squad."
"Pah, what kind of team is yours? Girl, why don't you come to us? Our team is full of martial artists, protecting you is absolutely no problem."
"Don't listen to them! We're the top ten team in the border town, you should come to me!"
"Our team..."
Everyone started volunteering, and the more they talked, the more excited they became; it looked like they were about to fight.
Unable to contain himself any longer, Liu Qing kicked the most agitated person in front of him, knocking over a group of others in the process, and roared, "Get the hell out of here! Don't get in my way. Who needs your help? Do you think our boss is dead?"
The crowd quieted down for a moment, no longer daring to push forward.
Liu Qing turned to look at Lin Feng, "Boss?" What do we do now?
Lin Feng tightened his grip on the long sword and said in a deep voice, "Let's go back to the courtyard and rest first."
The group then turned and left the empty city lord's mansion, heading west. You You immediately followed, until they entered a small, square courtyard and closed the door, finally cutting off the gaze that gave her goosebumps. However, the people outside showed no sign of leaving; she could even hear footsteps pacing nearby.
Youyou suddenly felt like she had fallen into a wolf's den, and seriously doubted whether it was a mistake to have followed them into the city, as it was clearly more dangerous than the forest.
Her recent walk outside confirmed to her that there really wasn't a single woman in this city besides herself. What did this alarmingly high gender ratio mean? It meant she might be making headlines in the news any minute now.
Therefore, from any perspective, this city is not suitable for living.
The more You You thought about it, the darker her future seemed. She took a deep breath to calm herself down. She checked the game system in her mind—no worries! After all, she was a transmigrator with a cheat system.
Although most of the system's functions were unusable, especially the skills section, which had no effect no matter how many times she tapped it, she clearly felt a leap in stamina and speed during her escape. In case of real danger, it should be fine for escaping.
The question is...where can we escape to?
With a thought, a map visible only to her instantly unfolded before her eyes. She stared at it, tears welling in her eyes, at the small town surrounded by vast greenery. She had no idea what kind of world this was; the forests were endless, and even with the map zoomed out, she couldn't find a trace of the next city.
This means that if she leaves this small town, she will only have two outcomes: either starve to death on the way to the next town, or fill the bellies of the monsters along the way.
An unprecedented sense of crisis swept over me. What should I do? I'm doomed!
“Miss You…Miss You, would you like to sit down and rest for a while?” Just as she was thinking about something, Liu Qing walked over, pointed to a chair that was polished to a shine and was not covered in dust, which seemed out of place next to it, and said with a smile that her face was red, “Lunch will be ready in a while.”
