Chapter 123 Shouldn't they... die?

The group entered the chemical plant with almost no obstacles; there were only two guards in front of the rusty gate.

They didn't react strongly to their presence; they only offered token resistance before giving up and surrendering.

As they entered the chemical plant, fine raindrops began to fall from the sky. Without hesitation, Chu Liyue pulled Xiao Wujie close and held up an umbrella.

The group was completely dumbfounded. Were they here to participate in an operation or to go on vacation?

To everyone's astonishment, apart from the two guards at the entrance, they did not see a single person.

If it weren't for the dilapidated surroundings and the strong smell of gasoline, they would have thought they had stumbled upon an open resort.

The raindrops falling from the sky began to become finer, and the rainwater brought an uncomfortable dampness to their bodies. At this moment, everyone couldn't help but envy Xiao Wujie and Chu Liyue, as well as Lu Zhufeng, who had somehow taken up an umbrella by himself.

Damn it, if they had told us this earlier, they would have brought an umbrella too.

Noticing everyone's gaze, Lu Zhufeng lightly licked his lips and tentatively asked:

"Hey, don't look at me, I only brought two umbrellas."

"If it doesn't work, you guys wait here for me. I'll drive the car in; there are some umbrellas and raincoats in the trunk..."

Everyone: ...

The raindrops fell softly to the ground, yet echoed with faint sounds within the silent, abandoned chemical plant. The group carefully made their way through this desolate land.

The rain did not wash away the silence and desolation of the place; instead, it added an eerie touch to the already dilapidated landscape.

The surroundings were deathly silent, except for the occasional sound of raindrops and the crunching of footsteps on gravel.

The air was filled with a faint dampness mixed with a strong smell of gasoline. Even though they were wearing special gas masks, the strange and pungent smell still seeped into their nostrils, making everyone frown.

The eerie environment and situation instilled a sense of unease and oppression in everyone.

"What on earth is Chu Feihong up to...?"

The smooth journey caused even the meticulous Old Gao to frown and murmur softly.

"It felt like he had completely given up and was just waiting for us to catch him."

Chu Mingcheng also had a cold and hard expression, frowning as he spoke softly.

"In any case, it's better to be cautious. Stay alert, we're not far from the target factory."

After surveying the surroundings, Old Gao cautiously gave his instructions.

They proceeded cautiously without any hindrance for a while, until the dilapidated factory came into view at the edge of the horizon, with dim yellow lights flickering like will-o'-the-wisps in the rain through the windows.

"This is it!"

Upon seeing the building ahead, Old Gao immediately waved his hand, stopped in his tracks, and his sharp gaze swept over the crowd.

Seeing that there were still no guards even after arriving at the destination, Chu Mingcheng frowned deeply. Without much hesitation, he led several elite soldiers to Chu Liyue and Xiao Wujie and said in a deep voice:

"I'll lead the way. Old Gao, you and the two children stand together, and the rest of you will bring up the rear."

Old Gao exchanged a glance with him, then nodded slightly and said in a deep voice:

"Keep up the good work and don't let your guard down!"

The group cautiously approached the tightly closed factory gate.

In the middle of the crowd, Chu Liyue gripped Xiao Wujie's hand tightly, her cold eyes silently watching him, the implication that he should stay close was self-evident.

Xiao Wujie also gripped her hand with a solemn expression, focusing his mind and staring sharply ahead.

Just as they were focused on the task at hand, less than ten meters from the gate, the tightly closed gate slowly opened from the inside with a creak.

Almost instantly, everyone tensed up, their eyes sharpening as they stared intently ahead.

The anticipated attacks, traps, and unexpected situations did not occur, and when the gates were fully opened, the interior of the factory was laid out before them.

All the guards were gathered here, lined up in two neat rows, and stood there expressionless.

Among the guards were Chu Yuntian, who had been anesthetized and was sitting in a chair, along with several political figures. When they saw them arrive, their faces were stiff, but the fluctuations in their eyes revealed that they were extremely unsettled at the moment.

Not far behind them was the sulfuric acid pool that was constantly bubbling, with several people hanging from it, their faces filled with fear but they dared not move.

Chu Feihong sat at the very back with a dark look in his eyes and a blank expression, keeping a considerable distance from the others.

As the crowd entered, he slightly raised his eyes, his gaze sweeping over them, lingering on Xiao Wujie and Chu Liyue for a couple more seconds. He then raised a metal gun in his hand, his cold and detached voice ringing out in everyone's ears.

"The gun in my hand is a specially made flamethrower. If I pull the trigger, the entire chemical plant will explode, and the area within a radius of dozens of miles can be razed to the ground in ten minutes."

"So... don't make any rash moves."

He cunningly maintained a relatively safe distance from the crowd, at which point throwing knives and hidden weapons would be difficult to kill with a single blow, and Xiao Wujie's special skills would be greatly weakened.

Chu Mingcheng and Old Su, who were at the forefront, exchanged a glance, but simply gripped their weapons tightly and stood still without moving.

Chu Mingcheng looked at Chu Feihong with a cold gaze and spoke in a chilling voice:

"Chu Feihong, just say what you want to do, don't play these tricks here!"

Chu Feihong looked at Chu Mingcheng with the same gaze, but his eyes were fixed on a pattern on Chu Mingcheng's clothes.
