On the edge of a remote wilderness, in a forest forgotten by the world, poisonous fog hangs like a ghost, keeping sunlight out.
The fog was thick with a suffocating smell of decay, and the trees' branches and leaves were a sickly gray-green, twisted and tangled.
The light was dim and indistinct, creating an indescribably terrifying and eerie atmosphere.
The sound of light footsteps rang out, and several slender figures appeared at the edge of the forest.
"Hehe, this place really has that feeling of the misty forest in the movie."
Lu Zhufeng, dressed in black, looked at the forest ahead, shrouded in poisonous fog and with twisted trees, and chuckled lightly.
"Since you're so interested, why don't you lead the way?"
Wearing matching black leather jackets with Chu Liyue, Xiao Wujie held Chu Liyue's arm, a mocking smile on his handsome, pale face.
Upon hearing this, Lu Zhufeng immediately waved his hand and slipped behind the two God contact persons.
The bizarre and boundless frozen ghost realm he encountered last time left him with psychological trauma. He'd rather leave such strange and unusual places to these talented and extraordinary individuals to explore, while he would just handle the odd jobs.
The woman among the contacts took out a stack of gas masks and goggles from her backpack and handed them to everyone, her voice solemn.
"This toxic fog is a mixture of biochemical substances from the abandoned base and miasma from the mountains. It has a complex composition and is very harmful to the human body. Do not remove your gas mask and goggles."
After carefully checking and adjusting Xiao Wujie's mask and goggles, Chu Liyue affectionately pinched his earlobe twice and patiently gave him instructions:
"Sweetie, stay close to me. If you get tired or feel unwell, tell me."
"Don't act rashly if there are any unexpected situations. You've only just recovered, so don't push yourself too hard."
Lu Zhufeng and Leng Ruxue were already used to it, each with their hands in their pockets and staring blankly ahead.
The two contacts of God looked surprised. Their impression of this President Chu had always been that he was aloof and even domineering. His gentle and patient demeanor was truly astonishing.
What puzzled them even more was what it meant to "not act rashly"?
The sickly-looking man in front of them, who coughed every three steps and gasped for breath every five, looked like he was lucky if he didn't drag them down. They even doubted whether he had the ability to fight.
Beside him, Lu Zhufeng could tell what they were thinking just by looking at their eyes. A playful smile crept onto his lips beneath his gas mask.
Two more people were fooled by this pretentious guy. The contrast was well-created, laying the groundwork for his later show-off.
After giving Xiao Wujie his instructions, Chu Liyue immediately gave the two contact persons a cold look, signaling them to lead the way.
She walked in the middle, holding Xiao Wujie's hand, with Lu Zhufeng and Leng Ruxue bringing up the rear.
"Everyone, please be very careful. This area is shrouded in poisonous fog, making it difficult for us to explore it thoroughly. Although we haven't encountered any special situations yet, there's always a chance of unexpected events."
"Also, watch your step, the mountain road is in disrepair and very uneven."
The contact person held up a flashlight, leading the way while cautiously issuing verbal warnings.
As they ventured deeper into the forest, the trees grew denser and the light dimmer. The poisonous fog seemed to possess its own will, wandering through the woods and plunging the world into a deathly gloom.
"ah!"
Just as everyone was carefully moving forward, Leng Ruxue, who was walking at the back, suddenly screamed without warning.
Everyone turned around in shock to see her grabbing Lu Zhufeng's sleeve, her eyes filled with terror. Noticing their gazes, she pointed a trembling finger at the ground.
"Old...rat, and...it looks disgusting."
Following the direction of her finger, a disgustingly large rat came into view. It was unusually large, almost bald, and its exposed skin was covered with pustules.
Where the abscess ruptured, the pus that flowed out left disgusting streaks on the ground.
Even more bizarrely, its eyes were blood red, and its sharp, chilling teeth were bared. It seemed utterly unafraid of the gazes of the crowd, instead baring its teeth and letting out a hoarse and eerie cry.
Without hesitation, Lu Zhufeng bent down, picked up a pebble, and flicked it with his finger. The pebble, accompanied by a whooshing sound, struck the rat's contorted body with perfect accuracy.
His finger strength was astonishing; the twisted rat, struck, immediately let out a sharp, painful cry, and disgusting dark green blood seeped out.
Its vitality seemed exceptionally tenacious; it did not die immediately under Lu Zhufeng's astonishing finger force, but its body continued to writhe.
After struggling a couple more times, it suddenly stopped moving, then straightened its body abruptly and let out an extremely piercing cry that pierced the mist and echoed through the forest.
Everyone instantly felt as if their eardrums were about to be pierced by the scream, and instinctively covered their ears.
Chu Liyue frowned, pulled Xiao Wujie into her arms, and covered his exposed ear.
With his other hand, he suddenly slashed to his waist, and a sharp throwing knife flew out instantly, piercing straight into the rat lying on the ground, which was making a sharp cry, silencing it instantly.
Everyone then lowered their hands from their ears, their furrowed brows relaxed slightly, and they exhaled a breath of stale air.
"Don't relax!"
Just then, Chu Liyue's cold, authoritative, and imposing voice rang in everyone's ears.
She held Xiao Wujie tightly around the waist with one hand, her cold eyes scanning the surroundings with the sharpness of an eagle's.
The rat's cry before it died was strange...
The next moment, the ground beneath my feet trembled slightly, and an unsettling low rumble came from afar, as if the earth itself was groaning.
