In the understated, elegant room, Qian Shan stood with his hands behind his back, gazing intently out the window, his face cold and stern, his aura deep and profound.
"My lord, Chairman Aisie Hall has sent word that he would like to trouble you to come here and apologize for any inconvenience caused."
Behind them, faint footsteps sounded, and an elderly man with a similarly aged face bowed slightly and said respectfully.
Upon hearing this, Qian Shan did not turn around, but instead let out a cold, indifferent snort.
He then calmly asked, "Old He, what do you think of her statement today?"
The old man, whom he called Lao He, paused for a moment upon hearing this, then spoke in a deep voice:
"My master said that this Chairman Aisie Hall is cunning and ruthless, and his abilities are unfathomable."
"Back then, she was the leader who opposed the destruction of the No. 1 reagent. With her abilities, I doubt anyone could make the No. 1 reagent sample disappear silently under her nose."
"Considering the circumstances today, she probably had another purpose in inviting her master here under the pretext of using reagent number one."
Upon hearing this, Qian Shan nodded slightly, his deep eyes flickering slightly, and murmured softly.
"But what is she trying to do..."
Old He hesitated for a moment before speaking:
"She comes from a charlatan background. Although she is the chairperson, she lacks influence in academia. It seems that she wants to use her master's reputation to attract more top scholars."
Qianshan's eyes were deep and thoughtful as he lightly twirled a few pieces of peach wood in his hand, producing a rhythmic, crisp clinking sound.
"But why did she bring all these people here?"
"You know she doesn't understand academics..."
Upon hearing this, Lao He looked troubled and couldn't answer for a moment.
"Perhaps it has something to do with those two children..."
Old He couldn't help but exclaim in admiration, "The name of that young lady from the Chu family is quite renowned even in our Lingnan region. Seeing her today, she truly has an extraordinary bearing and lives up to her reputation."
"Her young boyfriend seemed frail and harmless, but in reality, he was shrewd and showed no fear in front of his master or Chairman Aisie Hall."
It seemed rare to see him praise a junior so sincerely. Qian Shan suddenly turned to look at him with interest and said with a playful tone:
"So, how do you think the little ones in your family compare to them?"
Old He's expression froze for a moment, then he sneered, trying to avoid the topic.
Qianshan shook his head and chuckled, "Speak freely."
Old He's expression turned serious. After hesitating for a moment, he said in a deep voice, "I'm afraid it's not quite as good as it could be."
Upon hearing this, Qian Shan nodded slightly, agreeing that it was indeed inferior.
After saying that, Lao He's tone couldn't help but show a hint of regret.
"Miss Chu is fine, but her boyfriend looks quite dangerous. His complexion clearly indicates that he has been ill for a long time and is on the verge of death."
After a moment of silence, Qianshan suddenly spoke in a low voice:
"Perhaps there's one thing Aisie Hall wasn't lying about: that little guy might really have been injected with reagent number one."
"After all, there aren't many things that can stump that little girl from the Chu family..."
Old He was clearly shocked by this speculation. "If that's the case, then this matter is probably also related to Chairman Aisie Hall."
Qian Shan couldn't help but let out another cold laugh, "She might be the one who injected this reagent into the little guy's body. Today, she's crying wolf again for some shady purposes."
Upon hearing this, Old He sighed softly, "If that's the case, then this child is truly in grave danger."
Qianshan lowered his gaze slightly and remained silent for a moment.
As one of the developers of Reagent No. 1, he was well aware of the torment it could cause people; this thing was indeed a heinous crime.
After a moment of silence, Old He suddenly spoke, his eyes flashing slightly:
“Master, you seem to be… quite interested in that sickly little fellow.”
Having served Qianshan for decades, he naturally understood his temperament extremely well. He was calm and serious, and rarely smiled, even in front of the younger generation at home.
But today, he was actually facing a strange child and said something like, "Be gentle, don't hurt him." It was the first time he had ever seen Qianshan with such a tender expression.
Qianshan's gaze flickered slightly for a moment, and after a long while, he murmured:
"Maybe this little guy is just more lovable-looking..."
Old He remained noncommittal upon hearing this, saying that none of the little ones in his family were ugly.
The master and servant spoke in hushed tones for a while longer. After advising Qianshan that it was time for him to rest, Old He glanced at the blood sample on the table and asked:
"Master, should we still test this thing?"
With a slight glint in his eyes, Qian Shan said in a deep voice, "Keep it safe for now, and we'll test it when we get back to Lingnan after we're done with this."
...
Chu Liyue's private mansion
Chu Liyue led Xiao Wujie through the door and saw Lu Zhufeng nimbly jump down from the window, seemingly having just repaired the broken window.
"How many groups of people came tonight?"
Since the attack on the night they first arrived, large numbers of assassins have been visiting the place every day, and everyone has become accustomed to it.
Lu Zhufeng waved his hand wearily, "Three waves."
"This time we've replaced it with top-grade bulletproof glass, I refuse to believe it can be damaged."
Every time the assassin visits, there's a barrage of gunfire, and he always manages to shatter several panes of glass. He's been fixing windows so much these past few days he's almost sick of it.
Ignoring his complaints, Chu Liyue gently took off Xiao Wujie's suit jacket and loosened his tie before tossing it aside.
After leading him to sit down on the sofa, she let him rest his head comfortably on her lap, and gently stroked his cheeks and neck with her warm palms.
"Sweetie, what's wrong?"
Throughout the journey, Xiao Wujie was somewhat absent-minded.
Holding Chu Liyue's hand to his heart, Xiao Wujie finally snapped out of his daze. He looked up and leaned in to kiss her face for a moment before resting his head on her lap again, and said solemnly:
