Chapter 280 Shen Yuan's tracks are exposed, Xiao Wujie's plans

Liyue Manor

In the room, Xiao Wujie lay on the spacious, soft bed, covered with a quilt. His face was as pale as paper, and he looked extremely sick. His brows were full of haggardness and dejection, which was heartbreaking.

In stage IV, his flare-ups occurred far more frequently than before, almost every three to five days.

I fell ill right after returning from the Chu family's old residence. After enduring the pain, I was so weak that I could only rest in bed.

Lu Zhufeng pulled up a chair and sat down beside Xiao Wujie's bed. He took a tissue and stiffly wiped the sweat from Xiao Wujie's forehead.

Weakly, Xiao Wujie closed his eyes and coughed heavily. His pale face flushed with a sickly red, and his open eyes flashed with lingering pain.

Her long, feather-like eyelashes lowered slightly, concealing the weakness in her eyes; her thin, bloodless lips parted slightly, and her voice was hoarse and feeble as she spoke:

"Didn't you have something to tell me?"

Seeing his weak and haggard appearance, Lu Zhufeng was reluctant to disturb his rest. Meeting his deep, cold gaze, he hesitated for a moment before speaking in a low voice:

"The matter you asked me to investigate has yielded some results."

"You previously asked me to investigate people who had very deep connections with both God and SL, but because there was no specific direction, the progress was slow."

"But after returning from Boston, I followed your advice and focused my investigation on that Aisie Hall, and it did yield results."

Meeting Xiao Wujie's suddenly colder gaze, Lu Zhufeng said in a deep voice, "According to the various pieces of evidence from the investigation, she is very likely to be one of the Ten Kings of Hell, the Ghost-Faced Satan."

“That old hag is very good at hiding things. No matter how I investigated before, I couldn’t find a trace of her.”

“We recently captured an S-class assassin hiding in the capital. I knocked him unconscious and had Yunmo search his memories, which is how we caught her by the tail.”

"The dead Vito Rosso and the still-uncaptured Abyss are both likely backed by her."

Lying on the bed, Xiao Wujie resembled a sickly emperor. Although weak and haggard, he still exuded a captivating aura, and his eyes were deep and unfathomable.

Hearing Lu Zhufeng's words, he wasn't too surprised. He had guessed when he first met Aisie Hall, and now that it was confirmed, it was entirely within his expectations.

His breath was weak and feeble, a result of the torment of illness, and he asked in a low, hoarse voice:

"Can we track her down?"

Upon hearing this, Lu Zhufeng frowned and shook his head, saying coldly, "Ever since that pretentious seminar in Boston, she has vanished without a trace."

Xiao Wujie lowered his eyes, still unsurprised, "Her level of supernatural abilities is probably no less than mine, it's normal that you can't find her for the time being."

"Your investigation was previously focused on the United States, right? Let's shift the scope of the investigation to China, specifically the capital city."

Lu Zhufeng was suddenly taken aback and looked at him. "You mean she has already come to the capital and is plotting something?"

Xiao Wujie nodded slightly. That old witch was hiding so well; her shadow was behind everything.

Now, he has taken down one of her henchmen after another. During the trip to Boston, she showed signs of taking matters into her own hands. He absolutely does not believe that she will give up after suffering a setback once.

The most dangerous place is the safest place. Perhaps she didn't intend to continue hiding, but was just lying in wait, looking for an opportunity to strike a fatal blow.

Clearing his throat twice, Xiao Wujie's voice was low but cold and deep as he asked, "Where is Chen Yuan?"

Upon hearing this, Lu Zhufeng frowned and replied in a deep voice, "That's exactly what I wanted to tell you."

“This Shen Yuan is hidden deeper than anyone else. Previously, our people, along with Miss Chu’s people, searched the entire capital but still couldn’t find him.”

"In the end, we found some clues from the killer we caught, but we were still unable to pinpoint the exact location."

"But in the last two days, his location has suddenly been exposed, and he is rapidly moving towards the eastern part of the capital."

Xiao Wujie raised his eyes, "East of the capital?"

The easternmost part of the capital city is a seaport, including Haijing Bay.

As Lu Zhufeng straightened Xiao Wujie's IV tubing, a thoughtful look appeared in his eyes.

“I always felt that his exposure was a bit too hasty, as if he had some ulterior motive.”

After a slight pause, Lu Zhufeng looked at Xiao Wujie and said softly, "I have actually found out some things about his identity, but I cannot confirm them yet."

Xiao Wujie looked back at him and said, slowly and deliberately, "Who do you think he is?"

Lu Zhufeng did not answer, but Xiao Wujie read the answer in his eyes.

With a slight glint in his eyes, Lu Zhufeng pondered and said, "I plan to capture him myself. He is very capable, and the people below cannot catch him."

Xiao Wujie shook his head: "Let the people below keep an eye on the investigation first. Even if you go, I still won't feel at ease."

“That old witch is standing behind him. Once I’ve regained some strength, I’ll go with you.”

Lu Zhufeng raised an eyebrow. "Have you told Miss Chu yet?"

Xiao Wujie shook his head slightly, "I'll tell my sister soon, just wait for my news."

Speak of the devil, and he appears! After two knocks on the door, Chu Liyue gracefully stepped into the room.

She's been busy preparing for Xiao Wujie's surgery these past two days, mostly staying in the lab. Because she's worried about Xiao Wujie, she comes up to check on him every hour or two.

She nodded slightly to Lu Zhufeng, who had turned to leave. She reached out and removed Xiao Wujie's IV drip, leaning closer to him. Her warm fingertips caressed his pale face, her low, cold voice carrying a gentle tenderness.

"Sweetie, does it hurt again?"

When Xiao Wujie saw her, his face was full of dependence and affection. Before he could even hear her finish speaking, he ignored the IV drip in his hand, reached out and hooked his arm around her neck, pulling her towards him.
