In the dimly lit room, Xiao Wujie was held tightly in Chu Liyue's arms.
His sister was quite strong, and it hurt a lot. He tilted his head back uncomfortably and bit his lower lip lightly.
After a moment, Chu Liyue loosened her grip as if she had come to her senses, straightened Xiao Wujie's body, and stared at him without moving her eyes, with a faint trace of fear in her eyes.
It seemed that if she blinked, Xiao Wujie would disappear in the next second.
He swallowed hard; Xiao Wujie was slightly out of breath from being held so tightly by her earlier embrace.
His eyes flickered slightly as he reached out and gently brushed aside the stray hairs on Chu Liyue's forehead. He rubbed his cold hands together and carefully and gently wiped the sweat from her brow.
Looking at her, Xiao Wujie asked tentatively in a low voice, "Sister, did you have a nightmare?"
Judging from her behavior, the nightmare must be related to him.
After gazing at him intently for a moment, Chu Liyue lowered her long eyelashes slightly, her gaze regaining some of its usual cool composure, and gave a low, cold "hmm."
Xiao Wujie wiped the sweat from her forehead and chuckled, "Dreams are usually the opposite of reality, sister, don't be afraid."
He could roughly guess what Chu Liyue was dreaming about, and his heart softened. He wanted to reach out and hug her; he could feel that his sister needed him right now.
Chu Liyue seemed somewhat resistant, probably because she couldn't see his face when he hugged her.
With a slight movement, Xiao Wujie nestled into her warm and fragrant embrace, and Chu Liyue immediately reached out and cradled his head in her arms.
With gentle eyes gazing at her exquisite face, Xiao Wujie reached out and wrapped his arms around her neck, his thin lips slightly parted.
"Sister, kiss me."
Her long, fragrant hair cascaded down, and Chu Liyue's warm, soft lips lightly touched his forehead, then moved down, tracing his features with boundless tenderness, finally tracing across his nose and landing on his pale, thin lips.
After a passionate kiss, Xiao Wujie opened his misty eyes and breathed softly.
Chu Liyue took his hand, frowning slightly, "Why are your hands so cold?"
Xiao Wujie snuggled closer to her, "It's a little cold."
Coming to her senses, Chu Liyue also felt that the room temperature seemed a bit low.
Before going to bed, she had already adjusted the room's air conditioning to a comfortable temperature; it shouldn't be cold.
She looked up out the window; it was pitch black. But her eyesight was amazing. Even though the room was dimly lit, she could still vaguely see a thin layer of frost on the edge of the window.
I reached for my phone by the bedside; the weather app, which updates in real time, showed that the outside temperature had reached a shocking five degrees Celsius.
She silently turned up the air conditioner temperature, her eyes cold and deep; she knew things weren't that simple.
Xiao Wujie clearly noticed this as well, adjusted his position, found a more comfortable spot in Chu Liyue's arms, lowered his eyes slightly, and sighed softly:
“They all have quite a few tricks up their sleeves.”
Chu Liyue helped him lie down, pulled the blanket up to wrap him tightly, and carefully tucked the corners of the blanket in to make sure there was no draft.
She wrapped her arms around his head, her warm palms gently stroking his back. After a moment, she suddenly spoke in a cold, deep voice, her tone carrying an unquestionable firmness and authority.
"I'll take you back tomorrow. Let's put things here aside for now."
Under the covers, Xiao Wujie wrapped his arms tightly around her slender waist, pressed himself close to her chest, and let out a soft moan.
Very well-behaved.
He listened to everything she said.
With her palms gently patting his back, Chu Liyue softened her voice, as if she were coaxing her beloved darling without restraint.
"Sweetie, go to sleep."
"I'm not fully recovered yet, so I can't stay up late."
Xiao Wujie hesitated for a moment, and Chu Liyue, understanding his thoughts, gently comforted him:
"It was just a nightmare, it's okay, listen to me, go to sleep."
"You're awake now, your sister will take you home."
Xiao Wujie's brows were furrowed with weariness, his eyelashes fluttered, his cheek pressed against her heart, and he closed his eyes, trying to fall asleep.
Under Chu Liyue's gentle coaxing, he quickly fell into a deep sleep again.
In the darkness, Chu Liyue's cold eyes flickered slightly as she stared intently at Xiao Wujie, the suppressed unease in her eyes resurfacing.
She was unwilling to show this emotion in front of Xiao Wujie.
His world revolved around her, and with his illness so severe, she didn't want him to be troubled by it any further.
After Xiao Wujie came to the capital, she never had nightmares again.
But today's nightmare, so real it felt like it was happening right before her eyes, was even more intense than the nightmare she had before.
The fear in her heart was almost tangible, and it seemed as if a voice in the darkness kept telling her to take him away and leave this place.
Disaster awaits him here, and she cannot afford the price.
Suppressing the surging emotions in her heart, she forced herself to calm down.
She possessed the remarkable composure to remain calm even in the face of a collapsing mountain. Xiao Wujie was the apple of her eye; she feared losing him, but she was also determined to protect him with everything she had.
She began to sort through the events of the past two days in her mind: the massacre of the Gu family as the trigger, Gu Junci's unusual behavior, and the sudden drop in temperature caused by external forces.
She had a vague feeling that this was a huge scheme set up specifically against Xiao Wujie.
At least the cold outside posed no threat to her, but it was a deadly danger to Xiao Wujie, whose stage IV illness meant that his condition would flare up on average every three to five days.
This severe cold could even cost him his life.
Xiao Wujie probably guessed it too. He chose to get involved himself, using himself as the biggest bait to lure out all the enemies and wipe them all out in one fell swoop.
She had made many preparations in secret, but she still regretted it now.
Both Aisie Hall and Shen Yuan are sinister and terrifying opponents, like venomous snakes. Since they have chosen to make a move, they must have been absolutely certain of success.
She didn't think she and Xiao Wujie would lose, but she really didn't want him to get hurt again.
She changed her mind. If it weren't so late at night, she would have taken Xiao Wujie back immediately and arranged his surgery right away.
She stayed by his side every step of the way, not believing that anyone could hurt him under her watchful eye.
She would no longer let him get involved in these matters; she would handle everything herself.
"My sweet baby..."
Chu Liyue gently stroked Xiao Wujie's face with her slender, warm fingertips, and murmured softly in a daze.
Even asleep, he was still stunningly beautiful, with a face as bright as the moon, skin as white as snow, features as if meticulously sculpted, and contours as if carved by a knife and axe.
His long eyelashes trembled slightly, his breathing was even and long, and his brows showed a docile dependence on her, like the last snowflake in winter that had not yet melted, gently clinging to the warm eaves, both fragile and strong.
The ice and snow in her eyes melted, flowing out a touching tenderness and warmth.
Slowly, she gently closed her eyes and buried her face in his neck.
Breathe softly, inhale his scent; it's a little fragile, yet reassuring.
Her baby is truly wonderful. If she could, she would wish to bear all the pain and suffering herself, and give him all the happiness and joy.
But all of this turned into illusions with a deafening explosion.
