Chapter 38 You've put in so much effort to get closer to her, how could she possibly disappoint you?

As dawn broke, the east gradually revealed a pale, fish-belly white.

The faint light peeked out like a shy maiden, gradually dispelling the silence of the night.

The first ray of sunlight pierced through the clouds, its golden rays, like fine gold leaf, spilling into the fragrant room and spreading onto the bed with its gently fluttering curtains.

Chu Liyue lay gracefully on her side, her figure exquisite, her long, delicate eyelashes fluttering gently as she slowly opened her deep, serene eyes.

Xiao Wujie was nestled in her arms, his handsome face pressed against her chest, his arms wrapped around her slender waist, fast asleep.

She gently pinched the space between her eyebrows, then quietly admired Xiao Wujie's incomparably beautiful sleeping face.

Her eyes flickered slightly, then she sighed softly and curled her red lips into a smile.

Actually, sleeping while holding Xiao Wujie is quite comfortable, except for the slight fatigue in your hands.

Because of his weak and frail body, he was always cold. Holding him in my arms felt like holding a smooth, cool piece of beautiful jade, with an excellent texture.

The perfumes and shampoos he uses are all carefully blended, with a light, cool fragrance containing some calming ingredients, like a refreshing breeze blowing from a distant snow-capped mountain peak, captivating the mind.

What puzzled her was that Xiao Wujie had only been in the capital for a little over a month, so how come they were already sleeping in the same bed?

What a little vixen!

She then gently removed his arm from around her waist, stuffed a pillow into his arms, and quietly left the room.

Little did she know that as soon as she left the room, Xiao Wujie opened his eyes with a complicated expression.

Standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows of the manor villa, Xiao Wujie, dressed in a beige silk nightgown, watched as the sports car roared downstairs and sped away from the manor.

Lu Zhufeng walked up behind him, carrying a cup of hot water in one hand and several pre-meal pills in the other.

Seeing his uneasy expression, he immediately said in a sarcastic tone:

"Oh~ How could my good master bear to part with it?"

"Oh! So it's Miss Chu who's gone to work."

Xiao Wujie took the water glass expressionlessly and swallowed the medicine in front of him.

This was a task that Chu Liyue personally found him and assigned to him. The reward was a blank check, on which he could fill in any number he wanted.

Do you have any cigarettes?

Xiao Wujie suddenly spoke up and asked.

He knew that Lu Zhufeng had a habit of smoking in his spare time; in his words:

I'm smoking loneliness, not cigarettes~

"You're crazy! Your body can't handle cigarettes!"

Upon hearing this, Lu Zhufeng's pupils suddenly contracted.

He also noticed that Xiao Wujie's emotions seemed a bit off.

Xiao Wujie remained silent, simply staring at him with an unreadable expression in his eyes.

What Lu Zhufeng found most unbearable was the suffocating aura emanating from him when he wasn't speaking. He unconsciously reached into his robes and rummaged around, muttering to himself:

"Go ahead and act recklessly! You might as well just die!"

Xiao Wujie took the cigarette and lighter from his hand, lit the cigarette, and put it in his mouth.

Lu Zhufeng stared wide-eyed, veins bulging on his forehead.

Holy crap! Are you serious?!

Looking at the lit cigarette, wisps of smoke rose from the tip. Even just a couple of sniffs were pungent, but Xiao Wujie still took a deep breath regardless.

In an instant, a spicy taste rushed into his throat, and his body reflexively contracted.

Then came a violent cough, tears involuntarily welled up in her eyes, and her cheeks turned bright red from the sudden stimulation.

Seeing that he was coughing so hard he couldn't straighten up, Lu Zhufeng got angry. He snatched the cigarette from his hand and stomped it out. He immediately picked him up, walked quickly to the sofa, and patted his back to help him catch his breath.

Xiao Wujie coughed so hard his chest ached terribly, and a metallic taste rose in his throat.

The pungent smell kept swirling in my nasal cavity, making my cough even more violent and impossible to stop.

It took him a long time to calm down and stop coughing, but when he opened his palm, there was a scarlet stain in the middle.

This scene instantly spurred Lu Zhufeng into action. Ignoring the cold sweat beading on Xiao Wujie's forehead and his heavy breathing, he grabbed Xiao Wujie's shoulders with both hands and roared:

"Xiao Wujie, what the hell do you want to do?"

Are you looking for death?

He can't even stand the smell of cigarettes normally, yet he dares to smoke like a seasoned smoker!

Does he think his life isn't short enough already?

His eyes were wide with anger, bloodshot, and he gripped Xiao Wujie's shoulders tightly, forcing him to look him in the eye.

It wasn't until Xiao Wujie frowned and groaned that he realized he had loosened his grip, but the anger in his heart hadn't subsided in the slightest.

"I was just thinking that if I can't even smoke a cigarette properly, how can I possibly try anything else?"

Xiao Wujie, slightly out of breath, his eyes lowered, spoke in a weak and feeble voice.

"What...what's wrong with you all day long?"

Seeing his listless and powerless appearance, Lu Zhufeng felt as if he had punched a piece of cotton, and he didn't know what to say to him.

He sighed resignedly, then released his hands, picked up the cup, poured a glass of warm water, and brought it to his lips so he could rinse his mouth.

Seeing that Xiao Wujie had rinsed his mouth and his complexion had gradually returned to normal, he then spoke:

"What? You don't just want Miss Chu to be your older sister anymore, you want to go further?"

Upon hearing this, Xiao Wujie slightly raised his eyes and looked at him with some surprise, not expecting him to be so perceptive.

He did indeed experience some conflicting and confused feelings.

Having been given a second chance at life, he did not want to remain trapped in the self-imposed limitations of his previous life, refusing to move forward.

He put a lot of effort into getting closer to Chu Liyue, but when he actually got close to her, he felt a little lost.
