Thick, leaden clouds pressed the horizon very low, blocking out the bright sunlight.
A storm is brewing in the city.
At the First Hospital of the Capital, the operating room doors opened, and Ye Jinyu removed his medical mask and gloves, his eyes downcast, his handsome face etched with exhaustion.
This is his third surgery of the day. After standing for so long and maintaining intense concentration, all he wants now is to go home and get a good night's sleep.
He dragged his weary steps along the staff-only corridor.
There seemed to be a shadow flashing outside the window. He looked up abruptly, his pupils contracting as he stared in the direction of the window.
A leaf drifted slowly down in the wind, the wind was calm and still.
Ye Jinyu's eyes flickered slightly, and after a moment, she turned around and continued walking towards the end of the corridor.
However, their pace quickened slightly.
He had been staying at Liyue Manor for some time, but these past two days, Chu Liyue went back to her old house and went out, so there was no one at the manor, and he went back to the Ye family home to stay.
But he was certain it wasn't a delusion; it seemed as if someone was secretly watching him as he made house calls these past two days.
He returned to his office, quickly changed his clothes, and just as he reached the bottom of the stairs and opened the door, his phone rang.
The caller ID showed that the caller was Aunt Bai Jingxuan.
He answered the phone, and Bai Jingxuan's anxious voice came through: "Xiao Ye, Wu Jie is not feeling well. His stomach hurts, and he has chest tightness and can't breathe. Your Uncle Chu and I are taking him to the Chu family's hospital."
"Can you come over now, or should I send someone to pick you up?"
Ye Jinyu glanced at the gloomy, damp weather, her expression tense, inserted the car key, and said in a low voice:
"Aunt Bai, I'm coming right now, I'll be there in about half an hour."
"Don't move him yet. Try to keep him lying flat, give him oxygen, and you can give him a painkiller first."
The voice on the other end of the line was somewhat incoherent; Xiao Wujie seemed to be in great distress, and Bai Jingxuan anxiously comforted him.
"Baby, just a little longer, we'll be at the hospital soon, and Xiao Ye will be here shortly."
After a few seconds, she replied to Ye Jinyu, "Okay, thank you for your help, Xiao Ye. I'll hang up now."
The moment the call ended, Ye Jinyu started his car, turned the steering wheel, and sped off towards the Chu family's private hospital.
Family-owned private hospitals are usually built in open, uninhabited areas, passing through the bustling streets of the city center, with wide, sparsely populated roads behind them.
A light drizzle began to fall from the sky.
The spring rain is as fine as cow's hair, gathering and dispersing with the wind, and vision begins to blur.
Ye Jinyu floored the accelerator, the engine roared, and the car sped along the highway, leaving almost a blur in its wake. Her heart pounded slightly faster in sync with the rhythm of the windshield wipers.
Unexpected events occur, and a crisis ensues!
Ye Jinyu almost instinctively jerked the steering wheel. Under the cover of rain and fog, a truck came from the wrong direction and crashed straight into him at full speed.
Ye Jinyu reacted extremely quickly, but the rear of the car was still hit by the black sports car. The car body spun uncontrollably on the spot, and the wheels made a piercing screeching sound as they rubbed against the road surface.
With the combined force of braking and the rear of the car hitting the roadside fence, the vehicle finally came to a stop.
But Ye Jinyu didn't get out of the car, or even stop. Instead, she stepped on the gas and sped forward again.
Sitting in the driver's seat, his eyes were cold, and the veins on his hands gripping the steering wheel were bulging. He didn't believe it was a coincidence.
The car sped along, and just two minutes later, his pupils dilated violently, and he slammed on the brakes.
Ahead, several cars were lined up in a row, blocking the entire road.
The car lurched violently as it braked suddenly. Ye Jinyu's body slammed against the back of the seat due to inertia, her heart pounding and her face turning pale.
He parted his thin lips slightly, exhaled a heavy breath, but his gaze was fixed straight ahead, his eyes filled with a coldness.
Gun barrels emerged from the front car window, followed by a series of gunshots like firecrackers, with bullets flying in.
Ye Jinyu bent down instantly, and at the same time reached under the car seat, where she grasped a revolver in her hand.
The bullets struck the bulletproof glass, creating dents.
Amidst a cacophony of noise, Ye Jinyu heard the sound of a vehicle starting up.
He suddenly looked up and saw a row of cars blocking his way, all heading straight for him.
Getting out of the car means facing a hail of bullets; not getting out means the car will be hit.
He has no chance of survival no matter which option he chooses.
Just as he put his hands on the steering wheel, ready to take a gamble, he heard the sound of a car engine behind him.
Time seemed to stand still for a moment, and even the raindrops falling from the sky slowed down at a speed visible to the naked eye.
A massive, invisible wall of air stood before him, halting the next barrage of bullets and sending oncoming cars tumbling backward.
The black car stopped on the other side of his vehicle, and the passenger window rolled down, revealing Yunmo's serious face.
"Brother Ye, get in the car!"
Ye Jinyu got out of the car without hesitation and climbed into the back seat. Chu Wan, in the driver's seat, had a calm face and icy eyes. She stepped on the gas, and the car rushed forward without any regard for the road.
Yunmo formed a hand seal, and the car body was enveloped in an invisible energy layer. The falling raindrops rippled across the surface.
The vehicle blocking the road ahead seemed to realize this and swerved to make way, but it was followed closely by another vehicle that relentlessly pursued it.
Behind them, gunshots rang out continuously, the bullets denser than raindrops in the sky, all aimed at the same target, heading straight for their rear tires. Fortunately, Yunmo used his special abilities to interfere with and block them all.
Yunmo looked at this scene through the rearview mirror, his brows furrowed. He rolled down the car window, a light flashing at his fingertips, and chanted a profound incantation.
Above the car, fine raindrops seemed to be drawn by a special force, beginning to swirl and converge.
In the blink of an eye, it coalesced into a clear, transparent water dragon.
Yun Mo snorted coldly, a cold glint flashing in his eyes. The water dragon that had been hovering above the car body unfurled and swooped down.
