Chapter 69 Chu Yuntian's Choice, The Night at Haijing Bay Finally Comes to an End

As the aged and powerful voice rang out "Stop!", Chu Liyue's body stiffened slightly, but only for a moment. A cold glint flashed in her eyes, and she was about to continue her attack.

But in that brief moment of hesitation, Chu Feihong seized the opportunity to take two steps back, quickly creating some distance between himself and Chu Liyue.

"Liyue!"

Noticing Chu Liyue's actions, the aged voice sounded again, tinged with helplessness.

The newcomer was none other than Old Master Chu, Chu Yuntian. He was dressed in a black suit, holding a lion-head cane, and followed by a group of Chu family bodyguards. His aged face was solemn.

The lion may be old, but its power remains.

The powerful aura emanating from him made people involuntarily tense up, straighten their backs, and face the majesty of this former head of the Chu family.

Xiao Wujie shook his head inwardly when he saw the newcomer. It seemed that his and Chu Liyue's little lie had not fooled the old patriarch.

He respects Old Master Chu's character, but that doesn't mean he agrees with all of Old Master Chu's actions; some things are non-negotiable.

"Grandpa, what do you want to do?"

"To cover up Chu Feihong's crimes and save Chu Feihong's life?"

Chu Liyue looked coldly at Chu Yuntian who walked up to her, and spoke in a harsh and unceremonious tone, her words unusually sharp.

“Liyue, you know that’s not what Grandpa meant.”

Chu Yuntian said with a hint of helplessness.

"What does that mean?"

"After all, Grandpa has done this kind of thing quite a few times!"

Chu Liyue replied without any mercy.

"Liyue, what makes you say that? Grandpa has never done anything to show favoritism or abuse of power!"

Chu Yuntian frowned slightly.

He came from a military background, and many high-ranking government officials and military generals were his former comrades-in-arms. Years of military training instilled in him a lifelong sense of national pride and a strong sense of personal integrity.

In his youth, he had the opportunity to elevate the Chu family to the position of the foremost family in the capital, but he lost the opportunity because he was unwilling to profit from the national crisis and chose to generously donate.

He could accept Chu Liyue's disgruntled questioning; after all, Chu Feihong's actions over the years had left even him quite disheartened. What he couldn't accept was Chu Liyue questioning his reputation; in his view, it was an insult to his character.

"Miss Gu Junci once received definite information about Chu Feihong, Gu Hengsheng and overseas drug traffickers."

"But before she could do anything, the cargo on the ship was destroyed en route, and the entire group of drug traffickers was wiped out without a trace."

"Grandpa must have done this!"

Chu Liyue frowned slightly, her eyes coldly fixed on Chu Yuntian.

Chu Yuntian's face stiffened upon hearing this.

These words truly struck a nerve. If there is any stain on his life, it is this incident.

He was summoned to his office by a high-ranking friend who solemnly informed him that Chu Feihong might be involved in illicit transactions.

Overseas agents reported that a considerable quantity of contraband was being transported to the Chinese capital aboard a legitimate cargo ship, and Chu Feihong was among those suspected of involvement in the transaction.

Because of Chu Feihong's special status, his old friend hoped he would secretly investigate the matter. If the information was wrong, it would at least clear Chu Feihong's name; if the information was accurate, he hoped Chu Feihong could persuade him to turn back from his wrong path.

However, Chu Feihong was extremely cautious. Although the news had leaked, he did not leave any concrete evidence.

Unless the cargo lands and we can obtain concrete evidence that he received the goods or collected the transaction amount, it is impossible to accurately determine whether he was truly involved.

In Chu Yuntian's memory, Chu Feihong had always been respectful, mature and steady in front of him.

Unable to find any concrete evidence, he deceived himself into believing that Chu Feihong had been framed by someone with ulterior motives and that he himself had never been involved.

Whether it was the panic of fearing the intelligence might come true, or his unwavering trust in Chu Feihong at the time, he inexplicably sank the cargo ship and wiped out all the drug dealers involved.

Afterwards, he found Chu Feihong and seriously inquired about the matter. Chu Feihong naturally shook his head, indicating that he was innocent.

He seriously explained the pros and cons to him, and gave him a lecture, and then, like a fool burying his head in the sand, he thought that the matter was over and everything was settled.

In retrospect, this is a form of indirect cover-up of crime.

Seeing Chu Yuntian's face freeze instantly, Chu Liyue didn't say anything more about the matter.

She knew Chu Yuntian's character well; he valued his reputation more than his own life, so this was most likely just a momentary act of self-deception on his part.

But what she couldn't understand was why Chu Yuntian, a person who clearly distinguished between public and private matters, would act so foolishly towards Chu Feihong.

As if understanding her question, Chu Yuntian slowly spoke:

“In the past, when the country was in distress and foreign invaders invaded, I and several old friends were determined to drive out the foreign enemies and rebuild the glory of China. We joined the army of national salvation without hesitation, including Fei Hong’s biological parents.”

“I come from a military background, so naturally I led troops into battle and fought bloody battles. Fei Hong’s parents, on the other hand, went deep behind enemy lines, bearing the infamy, and served China in a different way.”

"During one operation, Fei Hong's parents sacrificed their lives to deliver intelligence that was enough to turn the tide of the battle."

"Although the intelligence was successfully sent out, and the result was as perfect as they had predicted, their true identities are classified, and they still bear the stigma of being villains."

"Feihong was already very young at that time. He lost both his parents in one day and had to bear the infamy of being the son of a villain. In those years, he suffered all kinds of contempt and humiliation, and his life was extremely miserable!"
