As night falls, this glacial canyon becomes even more eerie and terrifying.
In the darkness, the occasional sound of ice breaking could be heard, like an ancient beast awakening, each sound enough to make one's heart race.
Occasionally, a strong gust of wind would blow by, stirring up snow dust and mist from the ground, forming eerie vortices, as if something were lurking within them.
A group of people were struggling forward against the wind and snow. After a long while, they entered a glacial cave where they could find some shelter from the wind and snow and stopped their journey.
They put down their supply packs, sat down to rest, and one of them glanced at his watch and said to the leader:
"Rosso, it's already evening. We've been here for over seven hours. Let's get some rest for the night!"
The leader was Vito Rosso, followed by some God Base survivors who were willing to fight with him for the reagents, as well as some desperados he had hired at great expense.
Vito Rosso heard his words, glanced at the raging snow outside, and nodded slightly.
Many people only had a working relationship with him, and when they sat down and relaxed a bit, they weren't so reserved and started chatting.
"What bad luck! We lost our car when the ice broke off. Otherwise, things would have been much better."
"That's true. What's even more damning is how the base could have suddenly exploded? We didn't bring out a lot of supplies and useful items."
"Damn it! If it was an accident, fine. But if it was deliberate, I'll twist that bastard's head off!"
Upon hearing this, a barely perceptible glint of darkness flashed in Vito Rosso's eyes, who had remained expressionless throughout.
"You don't need to worry about that. The losses at the Far North Base this time were so severe that the higher-ups will investigate thoroughly, even if they have to turn the place upside down."
"Yeah, I regret coming into this godforsaken place. I just wanted to see the No. 3 reagent, and I almost lost my life."
"Do we, who are detached from the world and are seen as monsters by the world, fear life and death? I have no interest in reagents whatsoever; I simply want to see this frozen ghost realm."
"Rosso, what about you?"
During the casual conversation, someone suddenly asked Vito Rosso, who had been silent all along, a question.
"Of course I'm doing this for the reagents. I'm one of the developers of the reagents, so naturally I want to protect my findings."
Vito Rosso answered casually on the surface, but deep in his eyes lurked a turbulent emotion that was impossible to detect.
He was indeed a developer, but no one knew that he participated in the development of the No. 3 reagent and why he was so persistent in his pursuit of it.
If he obtains reagent number three, he can erase the mistake he made.
Wait for me, even if I flee to the ends of the earth, I will find you...
On the other hand, in the icy and snowy landscape, snowmobiles, which can provide shelter from the wind and rain and protect against the cold, are especially precious.
The car was a little crowded with the addition of Xiao Wujie, Lu Zhufeng and Yun Mo.
To make the space a little more open, and also to better soothe her precious child, Chu Liyue simply held Xiao Wujie and sat him on her lap.
Yunmo, standing to the side, dared not steal glances at his master's wife any longer. He could only steal glances at Chu Wan, the expressionless, lecherous woman who had touched his entire body. Chu Wan stared blankly at the back of Lu Zhufeng's head.
Lu Zhufeng stared blankly ahead from the driver's seat, while Leng Ruxue sat upright in the passenger seat, occasionally stealing a glance at the rearview mirror.
Only Chu Liyue kept her eyes fixed straight ahead, focusing all her attention on the baby who still seemed not to have been completely soothed.
To save on fuel consumption, the air conditioning wasn't turned on in the car. Although it wasn't as freezing as outside, it certainly wasn't warm either.
Chu Liyue pulled the fox fur coat covering Xiao Wujie tighter, and gently caressed Xiao Wujie's hair with her fingers.
Feeling the unusually cold temperature emanating from him, she couldn't help but furrow her brow slightly, her voice filled with obvious concern.
"Sweetie, are you feeling unwell?"
Xiao Wujie shook his head somewhat weakly.
The continuous use of extremely energy-consuming techniques had left him somewhat exhausted. Now, nestled in Chu Liyue's arms, feeling that long-lost sense of peace, he felt waves of drowsiness and weakness wash over him.
Are you sleepy?
Chu Liyue tried to soften her voice as much as possible. She carefully noticed the weariness and haggardness between Xiao Wujie's brows and the dark circles under his eyes.
During the days she was away from him, his sleep quality was probably worse than he had imagined.
Seeing his sickly and haggard appearance, yet still forcing himself to stay awake, his eyelashes trembling, he dared not fall asleep peacefully.
She ran her fingers over the dark circles under his eyes, gently rubbing them with her fingertips, then lowered her head and lightly kissed his trembling eyelashes twice, her voice low and deep.
"Go to sleep when you're tired."
As long as I'm by your side, you don't need to worry about anything, you can just snuggle in my arms and sleep peacefully.
Even if the sky falls, I'll still be there for you!
Xiao Wujie, a man of meticulous mind, straightened up slightly from her embrace, forcing himself to be alert. His gaze swept over the others in the carriage who were stealing glances at them, and he said in a hoarse voice:
“We’ve been here for seven or eight hours, and everyone is quite exhausted. It should be evening now. Sister and Yunmo are still injured, so let’s rest for the night.”
"My illusion clone technique can't take so many people out of here at the same time. I left some backup plans when I came in. With proper preparation, there's still a way to get out."
Those present had all witnessed his abilities, so they naturally had no objections to his words and nodded in agreement.
Seeing that his eyes flickered and his face was thoughtful, showing no intention of falling asleep, Chu Liyue forcibly pressed him back into her arms and urged him in a cold voice.
"Sleep! Sleep peacefully!"
Although his voice carried an air of authority, his eyes and movements were intoxicatingly gentle.
