Chapter 21 The Necessary Ending
This villa is actually not very tall, with only about three floors at the highest. In the past, Japanese people generally did not have the habit of building high houses, which was determined by their history and geographical environment. However, it covers a large area, and there is a garden behind the front house, which contains servants' quarters, a fish pond, and a pavilion for entertainment.
The place where Shinji Inada took the old butler was the top floor. That was the platform that the old head of the Changchuan family built by imitating Westerners. Because a lot of thought was put into it, it was spacious and cleverly repaired. Standing on it, one could not only enjoy the garden at the back, but also see the scenery in front.
The old butler seemed to want to communicate with the young master whom he hadn't seen for more than ten years. He gasped weakly and said in broken words: "You don't have to do this. I... I did something wrong and I have been punished by God..."
Shinji Inada didn't care what he wanted to say, nor did he care about the hurt he suffered in the process. He was very familiar with this place. In his past dreams, he had tried to escape from this cage countless times, but every time, he was knocked down by someone from behind. The person smiled grimly and raised the knife in his hand...
The wind was blowing in his face from the front. The morning air was very cold, and the faint sunlight shining on him felt more like a layer of ice. Hearing hurried footsteps coming from behind, he did not stop, but pulled the person in his hand to the edge. The old butler was pinned against the fence and could see with his own eyes the police cars winding their way down the mountain road. The one in front had already entered the gate of the villa.
Some people got out of the car, and soon they noticed the movement above. The leader dropped the cigarette in his hand in fright, and the people around him gathered around and looked up together. Because the police station mobilized a large number of people to search the mountain, more vehicles soon squeezed in.
The first to come up were Xiaolan and Conan. Because Mouri Kogoro was a step late, he had to follow behind Ikeda Yoshihiro. But the fat man knew his own power, so he gave up his seat and exchanged glances with Takashi Keiaki behind him, and they both gave an awkward smile.
Conan took the lead and when Xiaolan stepped out of the platform, he took a step forward and jumped out. Kogoro Mouri was frantically making a phone call when he heard a man roaring from the other end. It seemed that he was communicating with the police downstairs. He looked a little confused, as if he didn't understand how the situation had reached this point after just a nap.
"Stop!" Conan shouted hurriedly, "You don't have to do this. You've already got what you wanted, haven't you? Nagakawa Usuke is dead, and his crimes will be made public. You stay and see how people despise him and listen to everyone's condemnation of him. Isn't that good?"
Shinji Inada was a little surprised. He looked at the little boy. He was probably the only person who had talked to that man tonight. He was indeed very special. He smiled and said, "Do you know? In this house originally, there were three people besides me. They all witnessed the evil deeds of Nagakawa Usuke. One of them was the gardener of this family, one was the family housekeeper, and the other one... was my mother who brought me here."
He seemed relieved and didn't mind saying the word "mother". "But they all turned a blind eye to what that person did and even covered up for him. I ran away once and was found by the gardener. The woman hugged me and cried all night, and then threw me into the basement. That was the first time I was thrown down by my mother..." His voice suddenly became very light: "It was so dark, that place. I haven't seen such a dark place since then. It was dark and cold, and there were cockroaches and rats..."
Conan's voice softened: "But you escaped, didn't you? Just like that man said, you broke him, everyone saw you, and those people failed, they will never appear in this world again, you are the winner, right? You can still see more things, there is no need to stop here..."
It sounded as if Shinji Inada was the one who was about to die. The leader of the police came out quietly from behind, Kogoro Mouri stopped him and told him in a very low voice what he had learned.
"I've done so much, don't I need an ending?" He was not moved by Conan's words. His hesitation had been exhausted by the torture day after day. He said calmly, "Just like the story always needs to be sublimated, although I have taken revenge, I still killed someone in the end. In your argument with him, didn't you say that order is very important?"
Conan was a little speechless. "The criminal should get the punishment he deserves," said Shinji Inada. "This is not only applicable to Nagakawa Usuke, but also to me. Otherwise, what is the difference between me and him?"
The wind passed through Shinji Inada's hair, and the expression on his face was indifferent and ethereal. Conan was shocked. He suddenly realized that he had underestimated Shinji Inada. This man was not someone who was simply bewitched by that person. Everything he did came from his heart. Although his free will was small, it was indeed indestructible.
But the more this happened, the more heartbroken Conan became. He suddenly began to hate Nagakawa Usuke, wondering why he brought so much suffering to other people.
"So what are you going to do?" he asked. "Kill your last enemy here," he pointed at the weak and pale old butler, "and then what? I know what you want to do, but that's enough. It's enough to have done this far! Leave the rest to others."
After hearing about the murder, the police could no longer bear it and one of them stepped forward and said, "Mr. Inada, we already know the general situation. You can rest assured that we will definitely..."
"Shut up!" Shinji Inada suddenly roared viciously. The police stopped, momentarily embarrassed.
Yoshihiro Ikeda was secretly taking pictures behind them, Keiaki Takashi turned on his phone and recorded a video. Xiaolan felt someone gently pulling her sleeve. She turned around and saw that it was Pei Zhen who had come behind her at some point. He made a gesture to keep quiet and motioned for her to go with him.
Xiaolan looked back and saw that everyone's attention was on Conan. She hesitated and felt that Pei Zhen was not the kind of person who would joke at a critical moment, so she quietly left with him. Together they disappeared from everyone's sight.
What happened next was somewhat unexpected. Just when Conan was still trying to dissuade Shinji Inada, the sound of a propeller turning suddenly came from above, and a helicopter suddenly appeared in front of everyone. When the police on the stage saw the logo on it, their faces suddenly changed.
"Hiss," Takashi Keiji took a cold breath and nudged Ikeda Yoshihiro with his elbow: "Did you call this? It's too fast. Is this the efficiency of your TV station?" He really looked up to this fat man.
Yoshihiro Ikeda was also stunned. He was a little confused: "No, that's not right. Our TV station is thousands of kilometers away from here. Even if we fly a helicopter over, it will take several hours."
A camera was poking out from the cabin of the helicopter above. A beautiful female host in a formal suit landed from above. She grabbed the soft ladder with one hand and the TV station's microphone with the other, and spoke sharply and calmly: "...Yes, we can all see that below is the personal residence of the most popular mystery master Nagagawa Usuke...We did not rashly infringe on the personal privacy of this famous writer. We received a letter of complaint. Some people said that there was something fishy about the death of the author's wife. This time, another cruel and bloody murder is about to happen...Oh, let's all take a look, something seems to be happening down there..."
She turned the camera downward, and as the scene moved, the people behind the camera saw an old man in butler's clothes walked out as if he was forced to do so, and he began to narrate something loudly.
"Oops, the distance is a bit far..." The host was a little distressed at first, but soon her eyes lit up: "Let us thank our colleague Mr. Yoshihiro Ikeda from the TV station for bringing us the connection. He will be on the scene to bring us the first-hand live broadcast."
At the same time, a second small image appeared in the upper left corner of the live broadcast. There, the old butler was uttering something word by word. When everyone listened carefully, they found out that it was all the crimes that Nagakawa Usuke had committed over the years!
