Chapter 8 Why can't we cross

The days passed quickly.

If it weren't for the outrageous situation and salary at the Observation Bureau, Chu Zhishui would actually be quite satisfied with her current life. With the exception of Wu Changgong, her colleagues all got along well. There might be some differences in their behaviors, but they all treated her in a friendly and impartial manner.

Section Chief Wu didn't harbor hostile intentions, he just had the problem of being a small leader and liked to order people around on a temporary basis. Ever since he discovered Chu Zhishui's work efficiency, he began to consciously arrange for her, probably thinking that she was as easy to manipulate as Jin Yu.

Chu Zhishui had already decided to resign, but she was too lazy to cause trouble now. In addition, that little bit of work was nothing to her, so she hadn't had a conflict with Section Chief Wu for the time being.

The Huaijiang Observation Bureau was far away in the suburbs, with incomplete supporting facilities nearby, and not even the sound of noisy cars could be heard. The courtyard was still silent, with only a gentle breeze blowing through occasionally, creating ripples on the stream.

Chu Zhishui parked the car and walked along the path to the office building, when she suddenly heard a rustling sound. Before she could get nervous, she saw a black cat jumping out from under the swaying shadows of the trees, moving through the dense leaves like a black lightning bolt.

Chu Zhishui followed it subconsciously, the black cat's fur was shiny and had no other color, only its four paws were pure white, like black clouds stepping on snow.

It seemed to have a strong observation ability, and it jumped and tumbled continuously with a strong posture. Suddenly, it stopped and looked back at Chu Zhishui as if it had sensed something. A pair of golden cat eyes, incredibly beautiful, with a wild agility and vigilance.

Perhaps the names humans use for cats are unified across the globe. Seeing it staring at her, Chu Zhishui simply squatted down, stretched out her hand and called, "Mimi."

The black cat's body stiffened, it glanced at Chu Zhishui again, quickly jumped into the grass, and disappeared in the blink of an eye.

Chu Zhishui sighed with regret, got up and walked upstairs.

In the logistics department, Chu Zhishui has been preparing her resignation report recently, and plans to talk to Hong Ximing in the next two days. She chatted with Jin Yu for a while at noon, and finished her daily affairs in the afternoon. She thought she could get off work smoothly, but Wu Changgong showed up unexpectedly.

At the door of the office, Wu Changgong suddenly poked his head in. He scanned the area with his small black round eyes, startling Jin Yu so much that she lowered her head and dodged uneasily. Niu Shi was busy in the cafeteria, Xin Yunmao was not in the room, and now there were only two people left.

"Xiao Chu, take these forms down and finish them today before leaving."

In the end, Chu Zhishui became the new loser and was forced to accept the task of the section chief. She glanced at the time. It was 16:50 and there were still ten minutes before the end of work.

"What forms?"

"These are them." Wu Changgong handed over several lists with scribbled handwriting, "You have done them before."

Chu Zhishui took a quick look and found that the data was from yesterday. If it was given to her this morning, it would have been submitted by now. However, Wu Changgong had been fooling around all day and had to arrange the work before the end of work.

Chu Zhishui said calmly, "Okay, I'll do it tomorrow morning, you can just come and get it then." "

Then I'll do it later..." Wu Changgong was stunned, "Wait, can't it be done today? Are you busy now?"

"No." Chu Zhishui inquired, "Do you have something to do tomorrow morning?"

"No."

"Okay, then come and get it tomorrow. The deadline is noon, you can check it in the morning." This was

the first time Wu Changgong was rejected. He thought he should restore his dignity and said angrily, "Hey, didn't I tell you to finish it today? Do you have to be in such a hurry to get off work?"

His voice was as angry as a wave, and Jin Yu was scared and trembled.

Chu Zhishui remained indifferent when being yelled at. She asked calmly, "Then is it necessary for you to be so anxious to skip work?"

"What do you mean?" Seeing that she was not moved by his soft or hard words, Wu Changgong wanted to snatch the forms back and said impatiently, "Forget it. I won't waste my time talking to you. Jin Yu, you do it!"

"...Okay."

Chu Zhishui waved her hand and did not hand over the paper form. She repeated, "I'll do it tomorrow morning."

"Chu Zhishui, how come you are so opinionated?" Wu Changgong asked in annoyance, "Are you the section chief or am I the section chief!?"

Jin Yu quickly winked at Chu Zhishui and shook her head like a wave drum, frantically hinting that the other party should not be tough.

Chu Zhishui saw that Wu Changgong's face was full of anger, but she did not rush to refute him. Instead, she smiled gently: "Chief Wu, we can severely punish those who slack off from work and draw a salary now. To be honest, if your behavior is exposed, maybe the head of the logistics department will really be replaced."

"Since I started working, except for the first day, you have been slacking off every day, which is a serious violation of the attendance system in the bureau." She spoke softly with a gentle smile on her face, but she did not give her leader any face.

Wu Changgong's face turned red and he retorted, "Who, who said I was absent from work? I'm here every day, just a little late!"

"I barely arrive at work at noon every day, and occasionally show up in the afternoon. Can you still be considered late?" Chu Zhishui said slowly, "You have to make the form today because you don't want to come on time tomorrow. If you can be a little more polite and don't waste other people's time, I think we can all be in harmony and forget it."

"But if you really want to make trouble, it's okay. It's just an incompetent job at the end of the year. I heard that you were transferred from Qiwu, so you should be familiar with this."

Chu Zhishui had always been curious about how Wu Changgong became the section chief. Later, he learned that he was promoted to section chief after being transferred to Huaijiang. Coupled with the flattery of Qiwu in his words, he could basically guess what it was.

Putting aside his boastful nature, Wu Changgong gave up the familiar Qiwu and came to Huaijiang simply because he couldn't make it there. Everyone in the Qiwu Bureau knew his background, and it was easy to deal with him. If he didn't go outside, he might have been dismissed from his deputy section chief position at the end of the year.

But he changed his face when he came to Huaijiang. Not only was he promoted to a full section chief, but he was also able to fool his junior colleagues.

Jin Yu and Niu Shi were more honest and had never given him a citation for incompetence, but Chu Zhishui was not someone who could be easily manipulated.

When Wu Changgong heard this, his face turned pale and he asked in surprise, "What do you know?"

"What can I know?" Chu Zhishui held the form in one hand and picked up her backpack in the other, smiling, "Section Chief Wu, I'll leave first. See you tomorrow morning."

She was usually gentle and had no temper, and looked like someone who was easy to bully, but she didn't expect that she would have this harmless face when she was confronting.

Wu Changgong saw her leaving work without even turning back, and he was so angry that he was bubbling in the office, and he screamed: "Jin Yu, go and make the things!"

Jin Yu just thought he was inexplicable: "But the order was taken away."

Wu Changgong was even more annoyed. How could he not know that he was just looking for someone to vent his anger on in order to restore the dignity of the leader.

The next day, except for the usually withdrawn Xin Yunmao, the logistics department actually showed up. Jin Yu and Niu Shi both felt that the storm was coming, only Chu Zhishui sat in his seat calmly as always.

After a while, Wu Changgong finally showed up, and his face was still very bad.

Chu Zhishui saw Wu Changgong coming to work on time, with a bright smile on her face, and took the initiative to greet him, "Chief Wu, you came early today." Wu

Changgong arrived in the morning for the first time. He didn't like going out during the day by nature, and took advantage of the fact that the director was away on a business trip, so he got into the habit of being sly, but who would have thought that he would be outwitted.

The chaotic work and rest schedule made him look gloomy and a little confused, but he didn't want to lose face again, and said angrily, "I'll watch you do the form here."

He had to deliberately make things difficult for her.

"It's done." Chu Zhishui handed him the paper form, "I just sent you the electronic version."

Wu Changgong was like punching a cotton ball: "When did you do it?"

It was clearly just time for work, and she didn't even turn on her computer.

"Last night."

Chu Zhishui planned to resign today and didn't want to waste time on other work. Wu Changgong was furious

: "You could have done it last night, why did you let me come in the morning!?"

Chu Zhishui glanced at him and chuckled: "You could have arranged it yesterday, why did you have to ask for it right after work?" This was undoubtedly a revenge. "Chu Zhishui, do you know..." Wu Changgong was so angry that he frowned. If he hadn't remembered Director Hong's order, he would have wanted to clamp him to death. He said without thinking, "You are just a..." "Just a human?" Chu Zhishui raised her eyebrows, "You are just a crab." Wu Changgong, the gutless gentleman, is just an elegant version of a crab. She exposed the true nature of Section Chief Wu with just one sentence. Wu Changgong was unexpectedly discovered to be a monster by her. He remembered Director Hong's warning and suddenly became flustered. He subconsciously looked at the other two monsters. Jin Yu and Niu Shi looked away at the same time. They pretended to be ignorant for a second. In fact, the logistics department, including Xin Yunmao, all knew that Chu Zhishui knew the truth about the monsters. Only Wu Changgong was still kept in the dark. Wu Changgong felt that he had kicked the iron plate. Chu Zhishui said calmly: "Chief Wu, can you fire me?" "Of course..." Wu Changgong's voice was not finished, and he changed his words again, "No." Unless there is a serious fault, the Huaijiang Observation Bureau will not fire people, otherwise it cannot be called a iron rice bowl. Moreover, the monsters in the bureau cannot attack humans. "If you have no right to fire me, why are you still being so arrogant?" Chu Zhishui smiled, "I hope you can learn from this, come to work on time, and stop torturing others." Wu Changgong has never been taught this lesson since he became the section chief! He could not tolerate Chu Zhishui's recklessness, and he was furious: "Why can't I be arrogant? Why can't I be arrogant!?" He roared like a surging wave, wishing that the wall would resound, showing his indignation like the sea hitting the rock wall. Jin Yu trembled. Niu Shi persuaded: "Okay..." Chu Zhishui was the calmest person in the room. Wu Changgong put on a furious posture, trying to scare the arrogant enemy, but Chu Zhishui did not respond. She knew that Wu Changgong was a paper tiger who only bullied the weak and feared the strong. She didn't even raise her eyelids, and didn't even need to look at him straight in the eye. She turned on the computer as if nothing had happened. As expected, when Wu Changgong found that she ignored him, his exaggerated performance was like being pierced by a needle. He was at a disadvantage when he opened his mouth again . He said stiffly: "Why can't I walk sideways? We crabs walk sideways!" After he finished speaking, he walked out of the door sideways, and he didn't think his posture was funny or embarrassing, just like a crab on the beach. "..." Thunder roared but the rain fell little. He didn't dare to find trouble with Chu Zhishui again, and he actually let the matter go. "This is really..." Jin Yu saw that Section Chief Wu's steps were awkward, and stammered, "How arrogant." Chu Zhishui didn't have time to care about Section Chief Wu's fragile and sensitive mind. After sharing the stir-fried swimming crabs she brought with her colleagues at noon, she went to Hong Ximing in the afternoon to submit her resignation. The logistics department had a dispute in the morning, and Chu Zhishui resigned in the afternoon, which inevitably made Hong Ximing think too much. "Xiao Chu, I heard that Director Hu is on his way back from what happened this morning." Hong Ximing said anxiously, "If you have any grievances, just say it, and don't act impulsively!" Chu Zhishui hurriedly explained: "No, Sister Hong, it has nothing to do with what happened this morning, it's my personal reason..." Wu Changgong really didn't have the ability to squeeze her out, it just happened to be a coincidence. Hong Ximing was skeptical, but tried to comfort her: "Okay, okay, it has nothing to do with what happened this morning, but we can't just blame the whole bureau for a few people. Let's wait for Director Hu to come back." Chu Zhishui felt that there was no need to alarm the director over such a small matter, but Hong Ximing insisted that she had to report her resignation to the leader. She couldn't refuse, so she had to agree. The director's office is on the fourth floor, just opposite the personnel department. Hong Ximing opened the door and asked Chu Zhishui to go in and wait for a while, saying that Director Hu would be here soon. The room was quite spacious, with a long office desk made of antique wood, a leather boss chair, and a shelf full of antiques. There were two rows of bookcases in the corner, with many ancient books piled up between them. The contents of the books could not be seen from the covers. Calligraphy and paintings and ancient star maps were posted on the walls, bronze swords were displayed on the shelves, and two or three ancient coins were scattered occasionally. It was a simple but stylish arrangement. Chu Zhishui sat in front of a small tea table on the side and waited. This should be a place for entertaining guests. There was also a set of tea sets below. There were faint footsteps in the corridor, and the door creaked. Chu Zhishui quickly stood up to greet them, and just in time saw the two monsters enter the room. The gray-haired man in a Zhongshan suit had an elegant demeanor and a friendly smile. He saw her standing up respectfully and quickly waved his hand to signal, "No problem, sit down!" Hong Ximing came out to introduce, "This is Director Hu." "Hello, Director Hu, I'm Chu Zhishui." "I heard about you, I heard about you, but unfortunately I haven't met you..." Director Hu said with a smile, "I'm Hu Chenrui, sorry, I just came back from a business trip." Chu Zhishui quickly greeted him politely. Hu Chenrui's hair was light chestnut gradually turning silver, and at first glance it looked like the gray hair of an old man, but his face did not look old, and there were not many wrinkles on his face. He was obviously still middle-aged, with the posture of an old-fashioned gentleman. He has a pair of peach blossom eyes, which would have been very popular when he was young, but now they are a bit mellow with age, and it is hard to say whether they are more attractive.

When Chu Zhishui first met Director Hu, she felt strangely friendly, and she couldn't explain why. Her heart was beating strangely, and she forced herself to get rid of this feeling, which made her nerves tense.

Hu Chenrui narrowed his eyes and asked concernedly, "What's wrong?"

Chu Zhishui immediately came back to his senses, sat up straight and said, "Nothing, Sister Hong may have told you that for personal reasons, I am considering resigning. Of course, I am very grateful for the training the bureau has given me during this time..."

"I haven't come back yet, how can there be any training." Hu Chenrui interrupted her polite words and smiled, "I heard that you and Wu Changgong have some conflicts. Is it because of this?"

Chu Zhishui said neither humbly nor arrogantly, "Section Chief Wu and I have some differences in work, but my decision to resign has nothing to do with him. Jin Yu and the others have taken good care of me."

"Then is there another reason?" Hu Chenrui was embarrassed, "You seem to already know the situation in the bureau. Except for you, we are all monsters. Can't accept this kind of working environment?"

"Well..." Chu Zhishui hesitated, "Actually, it's okay after I get used to it. It's not because of this."

Hu Chenrui was even more confused: "Why is that?"

Chu Zhishui could not answer vaguely.

Hu Chenrui has his own racial talent. Ordinary people generally can't resist his charm. Most of them are too nervous to speak.

Chu Zhishui was not only not affected, but also managed to evade the issue with ease. She really didn't look like she was afraid of monsters. This made Hu Chenrui even more confused. Why did she choose to leave?

"Xiao Chu, to be honest, it's difficult for us to recruit people like you..." Hu Chenrui said tactfully, "who don't mind our identities."

"So everyone still hopes that you can stay. We want to hear the real reason for your resignation and see if there is any solution."

Hu Chenrui's tone was sincere and his wording was quite measured.

It sounded like something had to be said.

Chu Zhishui lowered her head helplessly, her tone quite awkward: "Maybe it's because of the difference in status. Director Hu, you guys are more noble, but as a human being, I think more worldly..."

Hu Chenrui listened in confusion.

She made up her mind and simply said frankly: "I also want to serve the people and stop working for the capitalists, but I found that if I don't sell my soul to the devil, I might end up being poor without a soul."

"The treatment in the bureau now is indeed... ahem..." She coughed tactically, "...compared to that."
