Chapter 102 Cat Meets Lin Feng
The familiar, disgusting demonic energy in the air reappeared, though faint, it was there nonetheless.
The two held their breath and looked out through the gaps between the branches and leaves.
Not far away, a slightly short figure wearing a loose black robe was limping along the path, and seemed to have some difficulty in moving.
Bai Qingchen and Mo Li looked at each other, tacitly kept silent, and followed carefully.
After following for about an incense stick of time, a flat forest appeared in front of us.
And right in the center of the woods, stands a fairly large house with black tiles, white walls and a solemn gate, which looks particularly abrupt in this desolate countryside.
The man in black robe walked to the tightly closed black lacquered door of the house and knocked a few times in a regular pattern. The door opened silently a crack, and the man slipped in sideways. Then the door closed tightly again.
Bai Mo and the other man hid in the shadows of trees in the distance, taking in all of this.
"There is something strange indeed." Bai Qingchen whispered.
Mo Li looked at the house, his eyes darkening slightly: "The demonic energy here is much stronger than in the city."
"Since we have found their stronghold, there is no need to rush. Let's retreat back to the city and make long-term plans." Bai Qingchen said calmly.
The two men retreated quietly, preparing to return along the same route.
Just as they were approaching the edge of the city, they suddenly heard a fierce fighting sound from the woods in front of them, and it sounded like there were quite a few people involved.
Bai Qingchen didn't want to cause any trouble and was about to pull Mo Li away, but the sound of fighting quickly moved towards their direction.
Before they could completely avoid it, several figures appeared before them.
There are five people fighting!
Two of them were wearing white clothes, and one of them had faint flashes of lightning as his clothes fluttered.
The other three were dressed in black robes, with a cold demonic aura surrounding them.
Although the two white-robed monks were outnumbered, they did not lose the upper hand, especially the male monk who was holding a long sword. His sword skills were sharp and the sword body was emitting lightning, forcing the black-robed monk on the opposite side to barely defend himself.
But the third black-robed man did not face the enemy head-on. He dodged everywhere with agility, and launched sneak attacks from time to time to interfere with the attacks of the white-robed monk, causing the battle to become stalemate.
Bai Qingchen frowned and pulled Mo Li to retreat.
However, the three men in black robes seemed to notice the sudden appearance of Bai Qingchen and Mo Li.
One of the men in black robes had a fierce light flash in his eyes, as if he felt that the battle would not last long, and seeing that there were mortals present, he immediately had evil thoughts.
He suddenly made a feint and rushed towards Bai Qingchen and Mo Li like a ghost. His moves made a sound of breaking through the air as he attacked the two seemingly defenseless people. It was obvious that he intended to capture them as hostages.
"No! Be careful!"
The white-robed monk holding a sword cried out in alarm when he saw this and tried to rescue but was entangled by the two black-robed men in front of him.
Bai Qingchen cursed inwardly and reacted extremely quickly, pulling Mo Li behind him. At the same time, the talisman that had been held in his other hand was instantly activated, and a light golden light shield appeared in front of him.
The black-robed man who was rushing towards him was already close, and his move landed on the light shield, making a loud noise.
The two white-robed monks in the distance were extremely anxious and wanted to break through the interception to rescue the people.
However, the next moment, something strange happened.
A sword energy so fast that it was almost invisible appeared in front of Bai Qingchen, like a starlight suddenly appearing in the dark night.
Phew!
The black-robed man who was rushing forward suddenly froze, and his forward momentum came to an abrupt halt.
A thin line of blood emerged from his neck, and his head rolled to the ground at an angle. The headless body swayed and fell heavily to the ground.
Mo Li, who was supposed to be protected by Bai Qingchen behind him, was standing in front of him at some point.
What he held in his hand was the ordinary iron sword that Bai Qingchen had bought for him before.
A drop of dark red blood slowly slid down from the tip of the sword.
The air was filled with a strong smell of blood.
Mo Li slowly turned around and looked at Bai Qingchen.
A few drops of warm blood splashed on his fair cheeks, creating a strange contrast against his still clear and innocent eyes.
There was even a hint of fear and concern on his face, and he whispered, "Brother, are you okay?"
Bai Qingchen looked at Mo Li in front of him. The long sword in his hand was still dripping with blood. Seeing the innocent expression on his face that was no different from before, he didn't know what to say for a moment.
He shook his head silently to indicate that he was fine.
In the distance, the two monks in white were obviously shocked by this sudden scene.
This young man's swordsmanship is not simple.
Seeing their companion being killed instantly, the remaining two men in black robes were shocked and revealed their flaws.
The white-robed monk holding the sword seized the opportunity, and the long sword in his hand flashed with lightning, like a thunderbolt falling from the sky, and he slashed down fiercely.
The blinding lightning completely engulfed the two men in black robes, and their screams stopped abruptly. When the lightning dissipated, only two charred remains remained.
The battle was over, and the white-robed monk holding the sword put the sword back into the sheath and breathed a sigh of relief.
Another disciple in white stepped forward and carefully examined the bodies of the men in black robes, confirming that they were both dead.
The sword-wielding monk then turned around and walked towards Bai Qingchen and Mo Li, with an apologetic and concerned look on his face: "Are you two okay? I'm really sorry for scaring you just now. Are you hurt?" His voice was clear and righteous.
Only then did Bai Qingchen see the man's face clearly. He was stunned for a moment and blurted out, "Lin Feng?"
The sword-wielding monk was also startled. He looked at Bai Qingchen carefully and identified him in the moonlight for a moment. A smile of surprise suddenly appeared on his face: "Senior Brother Bai! Why is it you?"
This person turned out to be Lin Feng from Liuyun Peak of Lingxiao Sect. The two had not seen each other for a long time since the last sect competition.
Lin Feng strode forward with undisguised joy on his face, and opened his arms, wanting to give Bai Qingchen a hug after a long separation.
However, Mo Li calmly took half a step forward, placing himself right between the two of them.
Lin Feng was a rough man and didn't care. He changed his open arm and patted Bai Qingchen's shoulder.
"Haha, Senior Brother Bai, I didn't expect to see you here! Who is this?"
Only then did he notice the young man with extraordinary temperament beside Bai Qingchen.
Bai Qingchen was also somewhat pleasantly surprised by this unexpected reunion, and he introduced them with a smile: "This is Mo Li, a younger brother I met while traveling. Mo Li, this is Lin Feng, my junior fellow apprentice in Lingxiao Sect."
He then looked at the calmer, white-robed disciple next to Lin Feng, "Who is this?"
Lin Feng introduced readily: "This is my junior fellow apprentice Yan Shen, he is here with me on this mission."
Yan Shen bowed to Bai Qingchen and Mo Li and said, "Senior Brother Bai, Young Master Mo."
"Junior Brother Lin, why are you here? And are you fighting with these evil cultivators?" Bai Qingchen asked the doubts in his heart.
Lin Feng scratched his head and sighed: "Well, it's a long story."
Yan Shen, who was standing next to him, chimed in, "We're here on a mission from the sect. The mayor of Jinxi City recently issued a call for help, saying there have been numerous cases of unexplained disappearances in nearby towns and villages, and even in the city itself, with no answers to their questions."
"Later, even the city lord's only son disappeared, so the city lord made a huge investment and sent out a request for help. We accepted the task and came here to investigate for a few days, but these guys are very smart and have been hiding until now."
"It wasn't until tonight that they actually took the initiative to attack the City Lord's Mansion, and we finally engaged them. In order to avoid harming the civilians, Senior Brother Lin deliberately lured them out of the city to deal with them. Unfortunately, one of them still escaped."
Bai Qingchen's face was solemn after hearing this. "So that's how it is. I might know some clues about the one who ran away."
He briefly recounted how he had tracked the demonic energy and discovered the strange house outside the city.
Lin Feng and Yan Shen were encouraged when they heard this.
"Great! As expected, there's nothing Senior Brother Bai can't handle."
Lin Feng said, "There's no time to lose. Let's go back to the City Lord's Mansion immediately, inform the City Lord of the situation, and discuss the next steps. Senior Brother Bai, you two should come along too."
Bai Qingchen glanced at Mo Li beside him, then thought of the sacrificial formation map covering the entire city, and nodded.
