Chapter 8: Lonely City
Of course, Ye Li couldn't possibly be proficient in how to hatch chicks. She was an expert in farming, not in raising livestock.
But she knew that the eggs had to be kept at a certain temperature before they could hatch into chicks.
Ye Li found a cardboard box and put a soft blanket in it. Then he took two water bottles, filled them with hot water, stuffed the thermos under the blanket, and carefully placed the eggs in one by one.
When the water in the thermos got cold, she would replace it with hot water. Although it was troublesome, she was particularly happy at the thought of hatching chicks.
After doing all this, Ye Li started to cook noodles for himself, the same as what he had eaten at noon. Although it was difficult to swallow, he had to eat it no matter how bad it tasted in order to fill his stomach.
That’s right!
Ye Li, who was eating noodles, stopped using his chopsticks. He still had to plant some peanuts and soybeans.
Peanuts are used to make peanut oil.
Soybeans are used to make homemade soy sauce. Of course, she doesn't know how to make homemade soy sauce, but she has tasted soy sauce after all. What if she grows soybeans and tries to make it herself?
Besides, soybeans have many uses. They can be ground into soy milk, made into tofu, and can also be grown into bean sprouts and fried as a dish.
The more Ye Li thought about it, the more excited he became. He simply stopped eating the noodles and ran directly to the storage room to dig out the yellow rice and soybeans. Then, he groped in the dark and began to turn the soil on the balcony and plant peanuts and beans.
On the high building, the night wind was a bit cold. Ye Li crouched down, holding a wooden stick, quickly turning the soil, sprinkling beans on it, and then filling it with soil with the stick.
The soil was watered during the day and is now very soft and moist.
I believe these peanuts and soybeans will sprout soon.
It’s a bit of a pity that without fertilizer, these crops can only grow naturally, and the harvest will definitely not be good.
However, once the chicks are hatched and grown up, their daily excrement can be used as fertilizer.
It was around nine o'clock when Ye Li finally finished sowing the seeds.
Although it was very cold at night, Ye Li felt her whole body was warm after some work. She walked to the edge of the observation deck, held the railing and looked out.
The lonely city was pitch black. Apart from the dim moon hanging in the sky, there was no other light. The night wind blew past, and it felt a bit desolate.
"Bang, bang..." Suddenly, there was a noise coming from the city, which continued to happen.
Ye Li subconsciously shrank back and hid in the wind shelter on the side. She looked at the city in the dark night. The sound seemed to be... gunshots!
Are there other people in this city?
Suddenly, the gunfire stopped again.
Ye Li thought that the people who came into the city must have been attacked!
But since she had met someone, shouldn't she ask for help? More people would help, and she couldn't just stay in this place forever, right?
Ye Li looked around and thought about turning on all the lights on the balcony, perhaps other people would see it.
Before she could turn on the light, she suddenly heard a loud noise, "bang..." Not far in front of her, a building caught fire, followed by gunshots, as if someone was exchanging fire.
Ye Li froze. Perhaps, exposing his position was not a rational choice. After all, it was the end of the world, and those who survived in the end of the world were not necessarily good people!
Ye Li withdrew her hand and hid in the windproof part of the balcony again. She looked cautiously at the burning building and could feel the zombies moving towards the burning building.
Ye Li turned her head and saw the light coming out of the house. She quickly ran into the room and turned off the light to avoid exposing herself.
