Chapter 96 Fairness and Justice
Xiao Xun finally said, "I need your help. Bring two more buckets of water tomorrow and wait. If you can help me find that woman, I will reward you handsomely."
Hua Nu quickly waved her hand and said, "It is my honor to serve you, City Lord. I absolutely dare not ask for anything in return."
Xiao Ruo chimed in, "Don't be so polite. My brother is very generous. Feel free to ask for anything you want."
Hua Nu bit her lip and mustered up the courage to say, "Lord City Lord, can I stay in the Holy City? I can grow crops, wash clothes and cook. I can do anything."
Xiao Ruo was also stunned. She didn't expect that this flower slave would make such a request. She didn't know how to answer for a moment, so she just turned to look at her brother Xiao Xun.
Xiao Xun's face was expressionless. He only opened his thin lips and said, "I believe you have heard of the rules of the Holy City. The Holy City never accepts people from outside, except for the talent selection every fifty years. In another year, it will be another fifty years. If you have children aged 1-8, you can send them here for evaluation. As for you, you are too old and do not meet the requirements."
Awesome! Awesome! Xiao Ruo admired silently in her heart: It was indeed her iron-blooded and ruthless brother, Xiao Ruo. This was fair and just, and it made the little girl cry.
Hua Nu wiped her tears and said, "I shouldn't have made such a request. I'm sorry, I was rude."
"Okay, stop crying," Xiao Ruo couldn't bear to see a girl cry, especially one who cried so delicately. She took out a handkerchief and handed it to her, coaxing her softly, "Although you can't enter the Holy City, you can make friends with us. If you have any difficulties in the future, just come to me. I, Xiao Ruo, will go through fire and water for you without hesitation."
"Thank you, Miss Xiao." Hua Nu wiped the tears from her cheeks with a handkerchief, lowered her head, and did not look at Xiao Xun, as if she was still blaming Xiao Xun for his ruthlessness.
Xiao Xun had a cold expression on his face as he ate the food on his plate in an orderly manner. Then he pushed his chair aside and stood up, leading a group of his men to work.
Xiao Ruo helplessly watched Xiao Xun's back as he left. She comforted Hua Nu and said, "I've arranged a room for you. After dinner, do you want to rest for a while?"
Hua Nu shook her head, looked at Xiao Ruo pitifully, and asked, "Can I look around? This is my first time in the Holy City."
"Okay, I'll ask the housekeeper to take you around later." Xiao Ruo agreed readily.
Hua Nu smiled happily, but her eyes dimmed. She thought to herself, "Why don't you take me around? Didn't we say we're friends?"
After dinner, Xiao Ruo rushed to his brother's office. Xiao Xun was processing some important documents for District 2.
As soon as he reached the door, he was stopped by Xiao Xun's personal bodyguard Wang Lun.
"Miss, the city lord is busy and told not to disturb anyone."
Xiao Ruo said: "Am I anyone too?"
"Yeah," Wang Lun nodded honestly.
Xiao Ruo rolled her eyes at him unhappily, then, with a gossipy look on her face, pulled Wang Lun aside and whispered, "Hey, let me ask you something. You've been following me and my brother around all day long. Who is that woman you said he's looking for? Does he like her? Or is that woman his woman?"
Wang Lun glanced at her and said, "I'm sorry, Miss. I don't know and can't tell you about the city lord's affairs."
Xiao Ruo was so upset by his words that she felt like her heart was burning with anxiety. She patted Wang Lun hard and said, "You're great! You're really good! If you have the ability, don't ask me for help in the future!"
