Chapter 157 Inescapable

Ye Tian has never believed in ghosts or gods, though he respects them. However, having come to this world, Ye Tian is unsure if ghosts and gods still exist, especially since he is already at the immortal level. If ghosts and gods do exist, are they themselves?

Therefore, they cannot pray to any deities, which is difficult for humans who have experienced a previous life to accept. When facing danger, they lack much confidence.

Since he no longer had the confidence of divine protection, he naturally couldn't blindly rely on luck. Therefore, Ye Tian chose to trust the great scholars of the academy, and they did not disappoint him.

Even though Ye Tian was on the verge of death, he managed to survive thanks to the help of many great scholars from the academy.

Ye Tian first felt pain and a slight chill in his shoulders, and his wounds felt like they were burning. After taking a deep breath and successfully enduring the pain, Ye Tian finally opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was a group of old men surrounding him.

First came Kong Chan with a smile, followed by Chen Zhang and Chen Dexing.

Kong Chan asked with great concern, "Fellow Daoist Ye, are you feeling better? If you feel even slightly unwell, please tell us immediately. The academy will take full responsibility for your safety."

Chen Zhang patted his chest and said earnestly, "Don't worry, Fellow Daoist Ye, we will definitely not let you down."

Ye Tian immediately became alert; this was even more terrifying than his injuries. A group of people suddenly showed him an inappropriate enthusiasm, the last time being when they tricked him into writing poetry.

He won't fall for it this time.

"I need a quiet environment, and both my shoulders are injured and might be ruined. I can't write poetry," Ye Tian earnestly instructed.

Kong Chan said in a serious tone, "Fellow Daoist Ye, how can you misinterpret our meaning like that? Did we save you just so you could write a few poems? Do we look like that kind of people?"

Does Chen Zhang seem like that kind of person?

Does Chen Dexing seem like that kind of person?

Looking at their serious and earnest expressions, Ye Tian couldn't help but nod and say, "Yes, very much so."

His words made Kong Chan's brows furrow, and he said through gritted teeth, "Fine! Fellow Daoist Ye, since you think we are that kind of people, I, Kong Chan, swear here and now in the name of the academy that I will absolutely not let you write poetry until your injuries heal. How about that?"

Such a vicious oath?

Ye Tian looked at the group of people with a mixture of belief and doubt, a sense of unease creeping into his heart. Could it be that he had truly misunderstood them? Could it be that they were genuinely only concerned about him?

"Since you won't let me write poetry, what are you trying to do by surrounding my bed?" Ye Tian asked seriously. If you won't let me write poetry, doesn't this behavior prove that these people are all perverts?

Ye Tian couldn't help but gasp, feeling a chill run down his spine, as if he had figured something out.

Kong Chan covered his face with his hand and sighed with deep sorrow, "Fellow Daoist Ye, how could you have such a strange thought in such a sacred place as the academy?! I really have to say something to you. You must never have such filthy thoughts! You must be more sacred and pure."

"Alright..." Ye Tian pursed his lips, glanced at the old guys suspiciously, but ultimately chose to believe them. He coughed and said, "Since there's nothing else, please don't disturb my rest. Please move aside."

Kong Chan coughed lightly and chuckled, "Fellow Daoist Ye, there are actually some things to discuss."

really!

Ye Tian knew these old guys were up to no good; it was indeed not that simple.

"Well, well! The dean with his thick eyebrows and big eyes has actually learned to lie." Ye Tianyi said righteously, about to refuse.

But Kong Chan's face was serious, and he said righteously, "Fellow Daoist Ye, don't slander me for no reason. I didn't intend for you to write a poem. I just wanted you to think about how to arrange the upcoming exhibition matches and finalize the content."

"Finalize the details of the exhibition match?" Ye Tian was momentarily stunned upon hearing this.

After observing the changes in the expressions of Kong Chan, Chen Zhang, and Chen Dexing, he immediately understood that the performance prepared by his fellow disciples must have achieved good results; otherwise, how could it have attracted their attention?

I see.

Ye Tian grinned and said, "This program is all prepared internally by our sect, so we can only let them handle it. I'm not in charge of this part."

Kong Chan's expression turned serious as he said, "Fellow Daoist Ye, how can you say that? I saved your life last time. You certainly have a say in your sect. Given our relationship, it shouldn't be difficult for you to resolve such a small matter, right?"

Ye Tian sighed and said, "If the dean has given the order, I will do it even if it means going through fire and water. The main problem is that the people in our sect are all driven by self-interest. They won't do anything unless you offer them real money. Even if I have the authority, I can't command them without tangible benefits."

Kong Chan's expression became conflicted, as if he was considering the rationality of the matter. After a two-second silence, he said, "I think what you said makes sense. We can give some money to show our academy's appreciation and respect."

Ye Tian coughed and said, "Rewards and attention alone are definitely not enough. Dean, if you want the horse to run, you have to feed it. There is a return on investment, as long as you give enough money. Every single one of the animals in our sect is a genius."

Kong Chan frowned and asked seriously, "Then how much silver do you think it would take to get your sect's people moving?"
