Chapter 404 You are the Buddha
War is always the biggest thing in the world, because there are so many things involved, and if you win, you get everything.
But if you lose, you lose everything.
No one knew the situation in Yan about the war that was going to happen, but everyone knew that it involved charges of treason and regicide. Even though Xia Chenfeng was dead, there was no way Xia Zhixu would just surrender like that.
Can.
Nobody knows.
Xia Zhixu went crazy and died.
But this is also the place where the real war took place in the entire Yan area.
There is only the tumor entrance.
Only here!
There are three majestic passes in Yan area: Wuhe Mountain, Liuzikou and Wangbei Pass.
Wuhe Mountain is the outermost and also the first checkpoint, Liuzikou is in the middle, and Wangbei is the third.
At the moment, at the site of the tumor, there was a biting cold wind and silence. There was a chill in the wind, but it was also mixed with a pungent smell of blood and burnt food.
Countless broken weapons and shields, as well as scorched ground and tattered armor, were everywhere in front and behind the Lumbar Pass.
The tattered flag of Daxia is still waving in the wind at the top of Liuzikou Pass, as if it is a belief, telling only two words: "never retreat".
On the city wall at the pass, many soldiers silently carried the corpses of their companions with whom they had drunk and argued not long ago. Some of them pulled out the arrows from their bodies, wiped them, and put them into their quivers. Some of them curled up quietly behind the city wall with their eyes closed. When their lips were chapped, they took the snow at hand and put it in their mouths to moisten them, and then continued to close their eyes and rest.
Many people also carried stones from some houses demolished inside the pass to the top of the city wall in order to resist the next attack.
But there were also many people wearing those broken armors. They had empty eyes as they looked at the scene outside the Great Wall and the corpses placed one by one. They were trembling all over, both men and women, old and young.
"All sentient beings who have not yet been liberated have uncertain natures and consciousnesses. They develop bad habits and develop good habits. They do good or evil and are born according to circumstances. They revolve in the five realms without a moment's rest. They move through countless aeons, confused and entangled. They are like fish swimming in a net. They will be caught in a long stream. They escape from the net and are temporarily bound to the world. When they are defeated, they are caught again. I worry about these people. Since you have fulfilled your vows and made solemn vows over countless aeons to save sinners, why should I worry about you?"
A passage of sutra for the salvation of souls was recited by a monk with a burly body and a hideous face.
The sound was not loud, but at that moment, everything was quiet in the tumor mouth. When the scriptures were heard, everyone looked at the monk.
The monk was barefoot and wore only a thin monk's robe. He clasped his hands together, bowed his head and chanted softly.
Willing to endure all suffering.
So he walked barefoot in the snowy places where it had just snowed in winter. In the winter frost, he took off his jackets that he had given to children and wore only a thin monk's robe, letting the cold wind bite his bones.
I only pray that Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva will send these soldiers, who are entangled in the karma of killing but have saved the world, to reincarnation safely.
Everyone watched the monk chanting sutras to pray for their comrade's soul in silence.
After the monk finished chanting, he stood up, clasped his hands together towards the deceased, turned around and walked to the foot of the wall, picked up the large shield and bloody knife that were leaning against there, and walked silently towards the top of the city.
The soldiers under the city wall looked at the corpses after the monk finished chanting, then looked at the monk and asked, "If this master died before us, would there be no one to pray for our salvation after we die?"
Many people around remained silent.
"Without Qiuren's salvation, there will be no Qiuren. I don't believe in Buddhism. If Buddha and Bodhisattva really exist, what are they doing now? So many people have died, why don't they come to save them? Aren't we the ones who have to die to save them? Aren't those masters the ones who have to die one by one? Aren't the people saving themselves? Damn it, if you have the ability, show your spirit now, then I will believe it!" A soldier cursed.
He was a little excited when he said this, and it must have pulled his wound, so the soldier felt a little pain and couldn't help but grit his teeth.
When the man finished cursing, someone immediately said, "Don't say such disrespectful words to the gods and Buddhas. It's a taboo!"
The soldier with an accent who cursed Buddha and Bodhisattva looked disdainful, but when he was about to say something else, he saw the monk coming towards him.
He immediately stood up and said, "Master, I don't mean to scold you, you are all great, and I..."
At this point, the man saw the monk saluted him with his hands clasped together.
Then the monk looked at the soldier and said, "Donor, I have no intention of blaming you. My master once said that all Buddha statues are just clay sculptures and do not need to be worshipped. All scriptures are just empty scriptures and do not need to be revered. Because the Buddha and Bodhisattvas are not among them, but among all living beings. You have come from Tanzhou to save people with your own lives. In my eyes, you are all Buddhas. You are the Buddhas who show their spirits and save the people."
After saying this, the monk saluted the soldiers again, then turned and walked towards the top of the city wall.
On the top of the city wall at the pass, Du Yu took a deep look at the corpses of the soldiers who died on the city wall, and then looked at the monk, then lowered his head with a look of guilt.
Then he tightened his grip on the knife handle, but perhaps because he used too much force, the wound on his shoulder began to hurt slightly, but Du Yu, a scholar, didn't care.
Du Yu not only had a wound on his shoulder, but also a bandage on his head under the helmet. There was blood on the bandage on his other hand. There were many other scars that could not be seen because of the armor.
His hair and beard, which were usually neatly groomed, had turned slightly white in just a few days.
Were monks, women and children forced to pick up knives and kill people?
What have we, the officials, done?
Du Yu felt somewhat self-deprecating and self-blaming.
"General, the inventory is ready." At this time, Wei Shan, who was also injured, walked to Du Yu.
Du Yu looked towards Wei Shan.
Wei Shan looked embarrassed, but still said: "There are 2,789 people who can fight now, including more than 900 soldiers from Tanzhou, and the rest are the civilians we rescued."
When Du Yu heard this, he closed his eyes slightly and looked at the soldiers sitting and lying in front of him.
There were about 7,000 soldiers and horses that came with him from Danzhou to rescue the people, but now there are only about 900 left.
He put away his childish attitude, because he knew he couldn't show it at the moment, so he asked, "How long can the food last?"
Wei Shan immediately said, "Four days."
Du Yu clenched his fists, glanced at the people locked in a place inside the pass, and then said, "The reinforcements have arrived."
When Wei Shan heard this, he looked at Du Yu with a serious expression.
Reinforcements will surely arrive within four days.
In other words, they have held out for five days now. If nothing unexpected happens, reinforcements will arrive before tomorrow.
but.
Can they last another four days?
Du Yu looked at Wei Shan and knew what he was thinking, so he said, "Even if we can't defend it, we have to defend it."
After saying this, Du Yu stood up.
The injuries on his body made Du Yu look painful, and Wei Shan hurriedly helped him up.
Du Yu shook his head, endured the pain and stood up straight, then put his hand on the hilt of the knife and walked a few steps towards the city wall.
Many soldiers looked at Du Yu who was standing upright, and silently straightened their huddled bodies.
Du Yu looked to the south.
Beyond the field of vision, one can see a large camp with bright flames inside.
That was the camp where the rebel troops from Yongshan Camp led by Zhang Jue were stationed.
A few days ago.
Du Yu led the troops from Danzhou to rush to the rescue, intending to rush to Wuhekou Pass, but unexpectedly, he discovered Weishan on the way to Wuhekou.
From Wei Shan, Du Yu learned that now Wuhekou and Liuzikou were all filled with Mobei soldiers wearing Daxia armor, and although there were no Mobei soldiers at Wangbei Pass, they were all stationed in Yongshan and Jizhou.
The three checkpoints have always been garrisoned by troops from the Yongshan camp.
Now the Mobei people have occupied two checkpoints.
it goes without saying!
Xia Zhixu is guilty of treason!
Yongshan Camp is committing treason!
In particular, we learned from Wei Shan that the people were sent through Wangbei Pass by the soldiers of Yongshan Camp, and then stopped at Liuzikou, and then escorted out of the pass and into Mobei territory by the Mobei people.
There are a lot of Mobei people in Wuhekou, especially outside the Great Wall, where there is a large Mobei army waiting to support the people.
At that moment, there was a group of people in Liuzikou, so more soldiers from Mobei gathered in Liuzikou.
Du Yu said no more and immediately changed his strategy to take back the tumor.
In fact, it would be best to recapture Wuhekou and block Zhang Jue's Yongshan camp and the people from Mobei who entered Daxia within Daxia. It would be best to just hold on and wait for reinforcements from Marshal Meng Qin of Dazhou.
but.
The people are in dire straits and cannot think about these things!
Afterwards, Du Yu personally led a thousand soldiers to pretend to be soldiers from the Yongshan camp, and asked the other soldiers to take off their armor and pretend to be civilians, as if they were escorting civilians here.
I didn't expect that the people from Mobei would open the gate and let them in.
The tumor mouth was thus taken back.
Can.
Just as Du Yu had thought, the rebels from Zhang Jue's Yongshan camp immediately arrived at both Liuzikou and Wuhekou, and the people from Mobei in the north also sent troops.
Attacked from both sides.
The only way is to hold on!
only
Du Yu believed that since Zhang Jue had committed treason, he would definitely rush into the Mobei territory, so he would launch a fierce attack to speed up the breakthrough!
Especially when it came to the tumor entrance that occupied the second level, Zhang Jue became even more anxious!
Now
Du Yu looked at the camp in the distance and said, "Many people are probably being captured by them now. If we are defeated here, the people will be sent out and the deaths will be in vain. And if we are defeated here..."
"I don't know what's going on in Wangbei yet, but the two passes of Luzikou and Wuheshan have fallen into the hands of the Mobei people. If we want to take them back, more people will die. If they invade, the tragedy of the Mobei people marching straight into Yan territory a year ago will happen again. At that time, more people will die, and the whole territory of Daxia will be in danger. So, we must defend it."
Wei Shan's face was solemn and he said nothing.
Du Yu looked at Wei Shan and smiled: "Are you scared?"
Wei Shan shook his head and said, "I just feel that you shouldn't die here, sir, and if Meng Shaoan doesn't..."
Having said that, Wei Shan stopped talking.
Du Yu sighed, thought of the ambitious scholar in his mind, and smiled. Things had come to this point and there was no need to say more. Besides, he had heard too much criticism about that scholar in recent days. After all, the people already knew that they had been deceived.
Wei Shan said, "Your Excellency should leave."
Du Yu said: "If I leave, I will be no different from Xia Chenfeng and Xia Zhixu. Moreover, I am a citizen of Daxia just like you. If I take the knife, I will be a soldier of Daxia. It will be a pleasure to die to protect Daxia."
Wei Shan looked at Du Yu with complicated eyes and clasped his fists tightly!
Du Yu patted Wei Shan on the shoulder and said, "Go, check the defenses in the north. The next attack is coming soon."
Wei Shan nodded.
Du Yu looked at the soldiers in Yongshan camp again.
According to Du Yu's estimation, there should still be more than 20,000 people in the Yongshan camp after several consecutive attacks.
There should still be about 10,000 or so people from Mobei in the north.
But there were more than 2,700 people inside the pass, 1,800 of whom were old and weak.
Du Yu smiled, but failed to save the people.
Dad said the crops would be very good this year, but we won't see them anymore.
I'm so tired.
If I had known earlier, I would not have wanted to be an official. It would have been much better to be a farmer.
Haha, I also have the reputation of being a corrupt official.
Du Yu closed his eyes slightly and sighed inwardly.
But just when Du Yu opened his eyes, he saw that the monk had come to him and was sitting under the city wall with his hands clasped together, beginning to rest.
Du Yu took a step to one side and saluted the monk with his hands clasped together.
Du Yu remembered it very clearly. These monks came from the Dabei Temple in Jizhou. There were originally more than twenty of them. However, after these few days, only the one in front of him survived.
but
Seeing the monk's bare feet and thin clothes, Du Yu was about to speak.
Woo~~~
The sound of the horn spread.
Du Yu immediately looked towards the camp of the rebel troops.
Then I saw countless dark dots beginning to gather.
When the soldiers inside the pass heard the horn, they stood up one by one, looked towards the rebel camp, and clenched their weapons in their hands.
Those civilians and merchants who had just put on armor and were trembling with weapons in their hands were swallowing their saliva, with confusion and fear in their eyes.
But suddenly
A child's cry was heard.
Everyone turned around to look at where the children were crying. There were many children there, whose parents were either dead or on the city wall.
Some of the older children saw everyone looking at them and immediately covered the mouths of the crying children.
Then he looked at all the people in armor with a resolute face.
Everyone was stunned and swallowed subconsciously.
"Everyone!"
At this time, everyone heard the voice of Lord Du.
They all looked over.
Then I saw Du Yu taking off his armor and holding a knife in his hand!
Du Yu's body was covered in blood, but it was not the enemy's blood, but his own.
Guard the pass for five days!
Du Yu was on the top of the city wall in every battle, and he suffered countless injuries. He wore armor to hide his injuries from others for fear of confusing them. Otherwise, as a scholar, he could not bear the weight of the armor, so he just endured it.
And now.
I took off my armor because I wanted to tell everyone.
He is here!
Never left!
"I, Du Yu, am incompetent! As an official of Daxia, I failed to fulfill my official duties and let you suffer this great disaster. But I will die before you now. I cannot repay this guilt. I only hope to repay today's debt in my next life!"
After saying this, Du Yu bowed to everyone.
Then, Du Yu turned around, knife in hand, and looked at the rebel soldiers who were already walking towards the pass.
No further words needed.
There is no need to say anything more.
We had said everything that could be said earlier, such as we must guard it, and there is no need to say it now.
Now I can say.
He is the only one here.
And he will be more willing to die than anyone else.
Everyone looked at Du Yu's back, which was covered in blood but still stood straight. The soldiers from Danzhou clenched their swords, ignored the wounds on their bodies, and stood in front of the people in armor.
A resolute face.
They all knew one thing.
People from all over Daxia ate fried cakes, Hu cakes, drank mutton soup, and happily celebrated the Lantern Festival with their wives, sons and daughters.
No one will remember them, let alone know who they are.
But they knew one more thing.
It is because of them that their families and the people from other parts of Daxia can live the lives they long for.
Is it worth it?
Nobody knows.
But they knew that they were soldiers of Da Xia and that they had to guard Da Xia's territory and protect the people of Da Xia.
This is what soldiers are supposed to do.
And the children under the city wall cannot die.
Even if they die, those dolls cannot die!
“Defend!!”
Suddenly an old soldier yelled.
"Defend!!!"
Someone yelled.
"Guard!"
"Guard!"
A roar came out!
Du Yu clenched the knife in his hand, staring at the Yongshan rebels approaching, and whispered, "Defend!"
The monk next to Du Yu also stood up, clasped his hands together, and chanted softly, "All the Buddhas of all worlds are always present in the world."
The drums of the rebel camp started beating just as the monk began to chant.
The soldiers on the city wall watched the mighty army advancing, and even more so the new siege weapons. Everyone clenched their weapons.
The monk put his palms together, lowered his eyes and continued to recite: "The Buddhas should have mercy on me. If I have committed any sin in this life or in previous lives since the beginning of life and death, whether I committed it myself or taught others to do it, or saw others doing it and rejoiced in it, I will be grateful to them."
The wind blew, and the cloth covering the bodies inside the pass was blown up.
Three of them were also monks, wearing the same thin robes as the monks.
"Whether it is a pagoda, a monk, or any of the monks' belongings, whether you take it yourself or ask others to take it, or if you see others taking it, you should rejoice."
Among the three monks, one looked no more than sixteen or seventeen years old, with a hole in one eye where he was shot to death by an arrow. Another was very old, with his white beard stained with red blood because he was beheaded.
"The five heinous crimes, if committed by oneself, or if one teaches others to commit them, or if one sees others committing them and rejoices in them."
There were some broken wooden Buddhist beads on the old monk's chest, and perhaps due to the wind, some of them fell off his chest and were scattered around his body.
"The ten evil ways, whether you do them yourself, teach others to do them, or see others do them and rejoice in them."
A child saw the cloth covering the body flying around and ran over in a hurry.
"If one's sins are concealed or not, he or she shall fall into hell, the realm of hungry ghosts, the realm of animals, other evil realms, borderlands, lowly beings, or the realm of the Melicha, etc."
But when he was about to pick up the Buddhist beads, he saw a flash between the old monk's eyebrows, which scared the child.
Then the wind blew again
The white cloth was blown back onto the corpses by the wind, but a Buddhist rosary was also blown towards the city wall by the wind, right below the monk.
At this time.
The monk opened his eyes, picked up the bloody sword and shield, and then looked ahead at the rebels who were approaching the city wall. With cold eyes and angry face, he said in a deep voice: "I repent for all the sins I have committed."
After saying this, the monk seemed to sense something. He looked back at the location of his master's body, then turned back to look at those murderous rebels.
Master, you said that all sentient beings have Buddha nature, but their foundations are different.
but
The foundations of some sentient beings are too low, and it is really difficult to make them realize the Buddha nature through teaching.
Only salvation!
Only then can you become a Buddha!
"Kill!" The monk was filled with murderous intent.
…
Ps: You can understand the last part of the Buddhist scripture as: I repent for all the sins committed by everyone, including mine.
