Chapter 30: Eyes Don't Mean Innocence
Lin Wei's heart skipped a beat, and her fingers unconsciously clenched.
In the end, Gu Jingcheng signed the agreement.
"The authorization fee will be transferred to General Manager Lin's company account tomorrow."
He handed her the document, staring intently at her.
His gaze wasn't innocent.
He signed! 200 million!
Lin Wei's eyes twitched, but she suppressed her excitement and went to take the document.
Gu Jingcheng did not let go of his hand.
His fingertips brushed against her fingertips as if by accident.
A static-like sensation instantly coursed through Lin Wei's entire body.
She suddenly looked up at him.
Gu Jingcheng stared at her, a hint of aggression in his deep eyes.
A smile played on his lips, and he spoke in a very low voice.
"Now that it's signed, is Mr. Lin satisfied?"
His eyes were full of provocation.
Lin Wei subconsciously took a step back and withdrew her hand.
"Mr. Gu, thank you very much for signing. It will be a pleasure to cooperate with you."
Gu Jingcheng raised an eyebrow, clasped his hands together, and looked at her slightly flushed cheeks with a playful expression.
It felt like something was scratching inside me.
"Just a verbal thank you?"
Lin Wei's heart tightened, but she forced herself to remain calm.
"What does Mr. Gu mean?"
"This is a contract worth 200 million..."
His words sounded grand and dignified, but she saw something different in his eyes.
No, who is Gu Jingcheng?
A proud and arrogant family man in charge is never short of women around him.
How could he... have those kinds of feelings for her?
Lin Wei paused for a moment. He was right. It was only right and proper to express her gratitude.
"Mr. Gu, if you're free tomorrow at noon, I'd like to invite you to lunch as a way of expressing my gratitude."
"I'm not free at noon, but I'm free in the evening."
Gu Jingcheng's voice was deep and his eyes were dark and unfathomable.
Lin Wei pinched her palm, feeling somewhat regretful.
There was a strange feeling, as if Gu Jingcheng had been waiting for her to say those words.
"I'll book the table."
A triumphant smile appeared on Gu Jingcheng's lips, but it vanished in an instant.
Lin Wei's heartbeat completely went off track.
"Uncle, you guys go eat, I want to go too."
Gu Yinuo ran over quickly, stretched out her chubby little hands, and tugged at Gu Jingcheng's long legs.
He wore a hoodie with a little dinosaur printed on it today.
Her soft hair had a tuft of hair sticking up, making her look cute and funny.
"Nono wants to go! Nono wants to eat something delicious!"
Gu Yinuo pouted, as if she was about to cry in front of Gu Jingcheng if she didn't agree.
Gu Jingcheng rubbed his temples.
"Nono, Grandpa said he'll take you to an all-you-can-eat ice cream party tomorrow night."
"Really?"
Gu Yinuo looked at him suspiciously with her round eyes.
"But Grandpa said I can't eat ice cream."
Gu Jingcheng bent down and placed his large hand on Gu Yinuo's head.
Her voice softened, becoming somewhat coaxing.
"Grandpa just told me this, you'll find out tomorrow."
Gu Yinuo blinked her big eyes, and soon she excitedly wiggled her little bottom.
"Ice cream, ice cream! Grandpa's taking me to eat ice cream tomorrow!"
Lin Wei couldn't help but smile as she watched Gu Jingcheng earnestly trying to deceive a child.
If Nuonuo had even a kindergarten diploma, she wouldn't have been fooled by him, right?
Ripples unconsciously stirred in my heart.
He did it all for this meal...
-
Lin Wei left Jingcheng Group and did not return to the company.
I plan to buy Gu Jingcheng a thank-you gift.
Gu Jingcheng gave her such a large authorization fee; she really should thank him properly.
Having dragged it out for so long, she was prepared for Gu Jingcheng to cut the agreed price in half.
I didn't expect him to sign it like that.
With 200 million, the company can have some breathing room.
In addition, she took out a loan from the bank for the Huaijin Group project.
Perhaps, it's worth a gamble.
Lin Wei drove the car into the heart of Jiangcheng, to the Jiangcheng Yundinghui, where land is incredibly valuable.
This is Jiangcheng's top luxury shopping mall.
Business tycoons almost always choose to buy gifts here.
Whether it's a gift to a partner to show sincerity,
It's still about bribing those key figures who hold power.
Lin Wei composed herself; she couldn't go to dinner empty-handed tomorrow.
That's 200 million.
She visited every shop.
His gaze fell upon a dark blue silk tie.
Gu Jingcheng's angular face came to mind.
A half-smile playing on the corners of his mouth.
My breathing faltered.
Giving a tie as a gift... seems too personal.
She shook her head and put the tie back.
Perhaps cufflinks would be a more appropriate gift.
She then chose a simple platinum and diamond-encrusted pair.
Just as I was about to pay, another thought flashed through my mind.
Giving cufflinks as a gift...it seems too much like some kind of...love token?
In the end, Lin Wei strolled around the mall.
My legs and feet ache, and my hands are empty.
She plans to go to a different shopping mall.
My gaze inadvertently swept over a watch boutique.
A men's wristwatch lay in the display case in the center of the shop window.
The platinum case gleams subtly, without any superfluous embellishments.
The deep blue dial, paired with gold hands, exudes understated luxury.
Lin Wei subconsciously narrowed her eyes; this watch suited Gu Jingcheng very well.
She pushed open the glass door.
"Hello, I'd like to take a look at this men's watch."
The waiter quickly sized her up.
My gaze fell on her Chanel bag and earrings.
Immediately put on velvet gloves and carefully took out the watch.
"This is a new style for this season. You have excellent taste, Miss."
Lin Wei held it in her hand and liked it more and more the more she looked at it.
However, she didn't know Gu Jingcheng's wrist size.
"This watch is beautiful."
Lin Wei turned her head.
A man was standing beside her.
Wearing a well-tailored dark casual suit, he looked to be around thirty years old.
She was tall and slender with sharp features, exuding an air of nobility.
Lin Wei was taken aback.
"I just happen to be interested in this series too. Ma'am, do you have to stare at me like that?"
Lin Wei realized her lapse in composure and coughed lightly.
"Excuse me."
The man changed the subject, his tone becoming inquisitive.
"Picking a gift for my boyfriend?"
Lin Wei's brow furrowed slightly, very faintly.
She felt uncomfortable being asked such a question by a strange man.
That's very offensive.
The man noticed her change of heart, changed the subject, and continued talking.
Are you worried about the size not fitting?
Lin Wei looked up at him.
The man's build was similar to Gu Jingcheng's; perhaps he could help her try it on.
"Sir, if it's convenient, could you help me try them on?"
My friend is about the same size as you.
A meaningful smile appeared on Chen Jinhuai's lips, but it vanished in an instant.
"I am honored."
He reached out his hand.
"Thanks."
Lin Wei handed over the wristwatch in her hand.
The man skillfully unfastened the watch clasp and put it on his wrist.
He raised his wrist to show Lin Wei, his gaze fixed on her eyes.
"It suits you very well."
"Yes, it fits perfectly. Thank you for helping me try it on."
"It was just a small favor."
Chen Jinhuai took off his watch and put it back on the tray, his gaze lingering on her face for a moment.
Lin Wei bought the watch without hesitation.
As I walked out of the store carrying my shopping bag, I always felt a chilling gaze on my back.
My heart skipped a beat, and I instinctively turned around.
