Chapter Thirteen
Shen Yue didn't know if he and You Congxi could be considered friends now.
He always felt that You Congxi was avoiding him.
Or perhaps, you dislike him.
Chen Yue scratched his hair in frustration, revealing sharp and cold eyes, his brows furrowed, looking like he was about to roll up his sleeves and start a fight at any moment.
It was the time when school was letting out, and he walked against the flow of people. His outstanding appearance attracted the attention of many people, but his temperament was too cold, and he was also looking at people with an unhappy expression. Within a five-meter radius of Chen Yue, there was no one, except for some vague gazes.
He was completely unaware, focusing only on walking forward, his mind filled with the message he had sent that You Congxi had not yet replied to.
What does it mean if I don't reply? Do I hate him? Are I rejecting him? Or do I hate him so much that I haven't figured out how to reject him?
Shen Yue felt a dull ache in his heart. He didn't know how he had gotten things to this point again, just like when he was a child and didn't understand why his seemingly loving parents would suddenly divorce, and his grandfather said it was because he was too difficult to raise.
Shen Yue lowered his head and moved his toes. With a little effort, the pebble drew a small parabola. Shen Yue followed forward, listening to the short rumbling sound of the pebble, waiting for the opportunity to kick it.
Now that I think about it, even though his father has been remarried for eight or nine years, he still doesn't seem to have any desire to have children. Could it be that he was really forced to become a childless person?
How difficult must he be to manage?
Shen Yue lowered his lips, a nameless anger rising within him. He casually grabbed a handful of foxtail grass swaying in the wind beside him, snapped it off, and put it in his mouth.
Whether Old Man Shen wants children or not is none of his business! Maybe it's just that he's old and his sperm quality is poor, so he's willing to sow but unable to flower. That troublesome Old Man Shen's father even dared to blame his parents' divorce on him. It's clearly because he's always stirring up trouble between his son and daughter-in-law like a rubber stick!
Normally, it's fine if you don't think about it, but once you think about it carefully, Young Master Shen feels like he's the most wronged person in the world!
Then he remembered You Congxi's indifferent attitude towards him, and felt even more frustrated.
Why is this happening? Could it be that he unknowingly offended her?
Unable to figure it out, Shen Yue simply continued to wander aimlessly with a blade of grass in his mouth.
Behind the school is a small pavilion and a medium-sized corridor. Next to it is a small artificial lake surrounded by flowers and plants. There is also a small grove of trees nearby where stray cats often give birth to kittens, making it a popular dating spot for students of the school.
There are just a lot of mosquitoes.
Shen Yue swiftly swatted one dead, then took a tissue out of his pocket with one hand and carefully wiped his palm, which was covered in the mosquito's corpse, until it was red before stopping.
Clutching a tissue, Shen Yue looked around for a trash can. He took a step forward, but the cicadas' chirping grew louder, making him furrow his brow in annoyance. There seemed to be two figures ahead of him, but he ignored them, threw the tissue in, and turned to leave.
"...Can I have a hug?"
Damn it, they're going to become a couple again. He's going to report them to Dahai.
Shen Yue continued walking forward expressionlessly.
These young couples should have been dealt with a long time ago.
The next second, Shen Yue suddenly stopped.
wrong.
-
You Congxi followed Zheng Yu all the way to the school's small garden. Along the way, she killed three mosquitoes, dodged five caterpillars, and accidentally injured countless ants.
Finally, the water stopped, and You Congxi breathed a sigh of relief.
She watched as Zheng Yu, who had been silent the whole way, turned around, took a deep breath almost imperceptibly, paused, her gaze shifting to the tip of Zheng Yu's nose, her lips moving slightly—
“Um, Zheng Yu,” You Congxi interrupted him first.
Zheng Yu was taken aback: "What's wrong?"
You Congxi: "Thank you for speaking up for me in the office today. And yesterday, if it weren't for you covering for me, I definitely wouldn't have been able to fool Dahai."
Zheng Yu breathed a sigh of relief, raised the corners of her lips, and said gently, "You're welcome."
The two fell silent again. You Congxi waved her hand to shoo away a few mosquitoes that were circling around her, pretending to be very busy.
She is least adept at handling these kinds of situations.
Fortunately, Zheng Yu quickly spoke again: "I'll go to the Congxi River—"
"Smack!"
You Congxi flicked away the dead mosquito, smiled sheepishly at him, wiped his hands clean, and gestured for him to continue.
It's best not to continue; just say goodbye. (Thoughts on a trip to Congxi)
Zheng Yu pushed up his glasses. His narrow eyes, which usually held a faint smile, were now devoid of any ease, replaced by a solemn seriousness.
You Congxi began to mentally prepare a tactful way to refuse.
His gaze shifted upwards, meeting that of the absent-minded You Congxi.
I meant to say...
They've arrived.
A thrilling experience while swimming in Congxi.
Having experienced several disastrous confessions, she believed she had developed the skill of politely and effectively rejecting people.
Zheng Yu, don't blame me. A forced relationship is never sweet.
With a heavy heart, You Congxi rattled off in one breath, like a machine gun: "I'm sorry, I probably can't agree..."
"I might be the outstanding student representative at next week's flag-raising ceremony."
You Congxi: "..."
Not a buddy.
You've asked me to meet you after school several times these past few days, is it just to say this?
Seeing her displeasure, Zheng Yu assumed she was unhappy with the arrangement and quickly said, "Don't worry, I'll talk to Director Lu again. You were clearly first in this exam, maybe he made a mistake."
"......"
“No.” You Congxi smiled. “I’m extremely satisfied with this arrangement, really.”
A smile flashed behind Shen Yue's glasses, but You Congxi didn't notice. All she knew was that she felt uncomfortable all over, as if ants were crawling on her.
You Congxi was incredibly embarrassed. Luckily, she hadn't finished saying that sentence, or she might as well have just smashed her head against the pillar next to her and died.
After mentally criticizing himself from every angle, You Congxi tried to keep his expression from becoming awkwardly distorted. Just then, Zheng Yu burst into laughter. While swatting away mosquitoes for You Congxi, he said, "I saw you chasing after Yin Zihan yesterday. At first, I didn't recognize you. I thought someone had gone to the toilet outside and annoyed the cleaning lady. It wasn't until Director Lu called you over that I dared to recognize you."
You Congxi breathed a sigh of relief; those steps were really helpful.
She smiled and said, "I just wanted to scare her a little, but I didn't expect her to actually believe it."
You Congxi recalled Yin Zihan's wailing and then thought back to her arrogant and domineering attitude in the office just now. She couldn't help but sigh for Yin Zixuan. Living under the same roof with an idiot for so many years must have killed hundreds of millions of brain cells.
Zheng Yu laughed, and after laughing for a while, he looked at You Congxi's finally relaxed expression and naturally raised his hand, speaking in a familiar tone that made it hard to refuse: "How about a hug? Consider it a celebration of our successful collaboration."
You Congxi was taken aback. After laughing, she was indeed no longer as tense as she had been at the beginning when facing Zheng Yu, but—
"No! I won't hug you!"
A thunderous roar startled a flock of birds that were sleeping in the trees, who flew away cursing the man for his low character and lack of public morality.
After realizing who the two people were, Shen Yue sprinted back at top speed.
The cicadas were chirping so loudly that he couldn't hear what the two were saying; he could only hear the wind whistling past his ears. But as they drew closer, he clearly saw Zheng Yu raise her hand, and his blood rushed to his head.
Absolutely do not hug!
He stopped panting in front of the two unusually silent people. He had run too fast and bent over to support his knees for half a second before quickly straightening up. His eyes were fixed on You Congxi's dark, bright pupils. Although he was terrified, his words were as hard as stone.
"...You can't hug me."
Looking at the person in front of her with messy hair but a taut face, You Congxi couldn't help but smile after her initial stunned silence.
She didn't know what was wrong with her; she just inexplicably wanted to laugh, like she had eaten a carrot-flavored cake made by her mother, or witnessed You Yuanming fall down.
A subtle sense of elation.
You Congxi thought it might be because the boy in front of her was so clumsy and comical; he always seemed to do silly things that were completely out of character for his appearance.
No one spoke first, and the group stood in a triangle formation, staring at each other in a silent and strange atmosphere.
"What are you doing?" Shen Yue couldn't help but break the silence first, but his words sounded like a wife confronting her husband in the act of adultery.
Realizing his slip of the tongue, Shen Yue immediately shut his mouth. He vaguely felt that he had done something stupid again. You Congxi already disliked him, and now he was even more annoyed.
He appeared rashly and asked rash questions.
Zheng Yu curled the corners of her lips into a slight smile: "Is there something you need, Shen?"
Did I ask you?
Pretty boy, are you trying to impress me?
Shen Yue glanced at him coldly, getting angrier the more she looked, feeling that he reeked of green tea.
Zheng Yu looked back without fear, though she was smiling, there was no trace of a smile in her eyes.
What are you looking at, you little brat?
The birds in the tree flapped their wings and chirped a few times. You Congxi looked around, wondering what was going on.
What are you two doing? Are you having your fortune told?
She clapped her hands to get their attention, and said helplessly, "Let's go back, okay? Don't just stand here feeding the mosquitoes. Are you addicted to this buffet?"
Seeing that Zheng Yu responded immediately, Shen Yue shouted, "Wait!"
You Congxi stopped in her tracks, wanting to ask him what was wrong, but her gaze lingered on a certain spot on the boy's head.
Zheng Yu also stopped, her eyes not very friendly.
Shen Yue licked his lips, wanting to ask her if she was with Zheng Yu, if she hated him, and if she could be his friend, but the words caught in his throat and he swallowed them back down.
He had lived as he pleased for seventeen years, and for the first time, he discovered that he also had things he was afraid of.
"without--"
My hair was suddenly touched.
Shen Yue was stunned.
You Congxi held up a blade of grass and waved it at him: "You have a blade of grass on your head."
"......"
She touched my head.
She touched my head...
While swimming in the Congxi River, she actually touched my head!
"Hey, are you stupid?" You Congxi waved the foxtail grass in front of his eyes.
Zheng Yu coughed lightly, and Shen Yue came back to his senses, turning to glare at him angrily: "If your throat is itchy, just scratch it inside, don't bother me like this!"
Zheng Yu: "......"
ill?
Damn it, I'm not going to bother with rabies.
Shen Yue felt as if her hair was on fire where she had touched it. The foxtail grass in her hand was like a catalyst, making the fire burn brighter the more it was shaken.
Out of sight, out of mind. He turned his face away and said gruffly, "Stop shaking!"
My hair is about to be burned off!
Zheng Yu, that pretty boy, was sensible enough to make an excuse and leave, leaving only the two of them in the lush bamboo pavilion.
There are also hundreds and thousands of mosquitoes.
Shen Yue watched as You Congxi jumped up and down in place, still holding the foxtail grass in her hand, swaying back and forth with her movements.
The cicadas' chirping continued.
"How did you know Teacher Tang was looking for him? Did Da Shu call you?" You Congxi was a little puzzled. She felt that Zheng Yu's mood was a bit low before he left.
Because I made it up.
Shen Yue answered in his heart, but on the surface he still gave a serious "hmm".
You Congxi met his lowered gaze for a moment: "What are you doing here, feeding the mosquitoes?"
Also, why not let her hug Zheng Yu?
Shen Yue reverted to his usual arrogant and aloof demeanor, raising an eyebrow: "Can't I come to a public area?"
Then he added, "Puppy love is illegal."
You Congxi: "..."
Who's in a relationship?
and.
You Congxi: "Did you violate the rules of Chenyue?"
You Congxi: "It's illegal to only date the top student in the grade."
After she finished speaking, she pursed her lips and refused to say another word.
That feeling came back again, the feeling of being possessed by a ghost, the feeling of not being able to control what I say.
Shen Yue frowned, as if pondering the meaning of You Congxi's words.
So, did they actually date?
Also, what do you mean by only dating the top student in the grade?
"Smack!"
A stinging pain shot through his arm. Shen Yue looked down and saw You Congxi's withdrawn hand and the dead mosquito that had been knocked away.
"Your bag must be huge."
Shen Yue subconsciously took out a tissue from his pocket and handed it to her, but she waved it away, saying, "No need, I've already flicked the mosquito away."
You Congxi just wanted to leave as soon as possible. She suspected that there was something fishy about the feng shui of this place, otherwise why would strange things have been happening ever since she stood there?
"Let's go quickly..."
You Congxi turned his head as his wrist was lightly tugged.
The boy's large, well-defined hand easily and completely gripped her wrist. Without much force, she felt a jolt, as if an electric shock had struck the skin that was touching his, her veins throbbed and swelled, and her entire wrist felt a surge of heat from the inside out.
Forced to open her palm, You Congxi froze on the spot, only able to let the boy use a tissue to wipe away someone's bloodstains from her hand.
A gentle breeze blew by, carrying the fresh scent of flowers and grass, and a few birds flew back, calling out at the top of their lungs.
Because of their posture, the two were very close. You Congxi could see Shen Yue's smooth profile with just a slight lowering of his eyes. The faint soap scent on his body overpowered the rich floral scent and lingered in You Congxi's nostrils.
"I don't have any strange hobbies, nor am I obsessed with being number one in the grade. I am just like that."
What is it?
You Congxi saw Shen Yue straighten up, the blood-stained paper neatly folded into a square and held in his hand, his other hand holding her wrist, a smirk on his lips, his tone as irritating as ever: "It's fake, I'm lying, I'm not gay, I only wanted to slap He Qizheng when I saw him, how could I possibly be in a relationship with him."
You Congxi relaxed a little: "You're the one who dragged them down. Be careful He Qizheng hears you and slaps you first."
As she spoke, she moved her right hand, trying to pull her wrist out of his grasp.
"And what about you?"
When You Congxi heard him ask, her arm felt a little itchy. Thinking it was a mosquito, she looked down to look for it and casually replied, "What?"
Her fair arm was bare, and whether it was her imagination or not, her wrist seemed to tighten for a moment.
You Congxi was displeased. She raised her arm and struggled, then glared at the boy who had inexplicably gone crazy in front of her: "Let go, I have super glue on my wrist!"
Shen Yue's Adam's apple bobbed, and he released his grip.
You Congxi shook her hand, leaving a faint red mark on her fair and slender wrist.
Is he a spinach sailor? He's so strong.
"Travel along the Congxi River".
She heard the boy's rustling voice.
As the sun sets, golden light filters through the dense foliage, dappling our bodies.
You Congxi looked up and saw Shen Yue with a pale yellow edge drawn by the setting sun. Her amber eyes were bright, but the corners of her eyes drooped. Her usually indifferent gaze was now fixed on her, showing a pitiful look.
You Congxi felt like she had gone mad, that she could actually associate the word "pitiful" with Shen Yue.
She swallowed hard, just about to say something.
My arms feel itchy again.
Shen Yue gently stroked the delicate arm of Cong Xi downstream with his thumb, then quickly withdrew it.
"Don't be with Zheng Yu."
"And don't hate me."
"OK."
