Chapter Thirty-Four

Chapter Thirty-Four

The door across the street was half-open, and moving workers were going in and out, but none of them opened the door completely.

You Congxi frowned slightly. This is supposed to be a high-end moving company? What kind of service is this?

She gently rubbed her index finger and thumb together at her sides. A fierce internal struggle raged within her; reason told her it was impossible, but...

Could it be him?

You Congxi felt it was absurd, and the lingering orange scent in her nostrils made her feel even more exposed.

As she put her hands in her pockets to go home, something sharp suddenly pricked her palm. She instinctively pulled them out and found it was the two neatly wrapped apology letters.

She was startled, as the group chat messages that had been forcibly thrown to her feet were forcefully pushed back into her mind.

Hold.

You Congxi cursed under his breath, something he rarely did.

Whoever loves whom is none of her business.

She lifted her foot, expressionless, to go home.

A few seconds later, I stood still in front of the door.

You Congxi raised his hand and knocked on the half-open door—

Who is it?

The sound of footsteps grew louder as they approached.

She glanced through the half-open door; furniture was covered in dust covers, but the space was clearly large. Her gaze was drawn to a particular spot, and she paused, instinctively wanting to take a step forward for a closer look—

"Hello?"

The foot that had just been lifted was suddenly pulled back.

The boy in front of her had his hair casually pulled back, wore black-rimmed glasses, had a black earring in his right ear, wore a gray cardigan, and was very tall; You Congxi had to tilt her head slightly to talk to him.

You Congxi gripped the strap of his backpack tightly.

It wasn't him.

"Hello," she said with a slight smile, her expression unchanged. "I'm from apartment 802 across the hall. You must be very busy these past few days since you just moved. Feel free to let me know if you need anything."

After a few polite words, You Congxi bid farewell and headed home.

Press your fingerprint to open the door and enter the house.

She leaned against the door, stunned for a few seconds in the pitch black.

Her right palm, still slightly damp from knocking, reached out and flipped the light switch on the entryway wall. With a snap, she slowly exhaled into the suddenly brightened room.

That's insane.

You Congxi felt disgusted by all out-of-control behavior. She realized that her recent behavior was indeed somewhat out of control, which made her feel uneasy in addition to self-loathing.

After changing her shoes, she decided to take a shower to wash away all the messy thoughts in her mind.

"Did you even clean this properly before giving it to me?"

Young Master Shen Yue slumped in his chair like a spoiled brat, picking at Shen Zhou who was diligently serving him.

Shen Zhou slightly raised the hand holding the cup, causing Shen Yue, who reached out to take it, to miss.

Before he could complain, Shen Zhou raised an eyebrow and placed the water on the table further away: "Am I your servant?"

Shen Yue's brow twitched.

His cousin was unpredictable; he appeared kind and amiable on the surface, but was actually wicked and full of evil intentions. Even someone as brave as him couldn't contend with Shen Zhou for the time being.

After a moment's consideration, Shen Yue decided to let Shen Zhou off the hook and not hold it against him. He sat up straight, reached for the cup, and brought it to his lips.

“Oh, right,” Shen Zhou said casually, taking off his glasses and wiping them, “a girl came knocking on the door just now, saying she was the neighbor across the hall.”

"puff--"

Shen Zhou moved away in disgust, watching his fussy cousin frantically grabbing tissues to wipe his mouth, not forgetting to question him: "Why didn't you tell me sooner!"

Shen Zhou shrugged, his tone light: "Sorry, I have no such obligation."

Shen Yue gave him a gesture of international goodwill.

He only went to the toilet for a short while, and ended up missing You Congxi by the time he got there. What was the point of his WeChat Moments post then? He glared angrily at Shen Zhou, who was directing the workers to put the furniture away. What a jinx!

Shen Yue bought two floors, upstairs and downstairs, and combined them to make a duplex.

After viewing the apartment on Sunday, I paid for it on the spot and immediately started picking out furniture and decorating. I stayed up all night writing six essays, and on Monday noon, I didn't even have time to take a nap before rushing back to move some of the furniture.

We should be able to move most of it by tonight.

Distractedly twirling his phone, Shen Yue pondered when he could surprise You Congxi with a sudden, unexpected transformation.

The opportunity to speak as an outstanding student representative has fallen through, and You Congxi has also been implicated and gossiped about by those people. Shen Yue felt a heavy weight on her heart, feeling guilty and upset, and thought she had let You Congxi down.

His finger hovered over the chat box for a long time without clicking, and Shen Yue hesitated again and again, pulling up and down the chat box several times.

He stared at the chat history that was still stuck on Saturday night, showing that he had reported to You Congxi that he had arrived home, and his nerves twitched.

never mind.

Bring her a baked cake after school tomorrow...

The phone in my hand vibrated.

【I am a fish: ?】

Shen Yue was taken aback, his hand moving faster than his brain, and he subconsciously replied with a "?".

Staring at the "typing" message at the top of the chat box, Shen Yue's heart raced slightly. Could it be that You Congxi had noticed something was wrong?

His palms were sweaty as he held his phone; perhaps she knew that the new neighbor was actually...

My phone vibrated.

[I am a fish: It's okay.]

Shen Yue's tense shoulders slumped.

oh.

"......"

You Congxi casually dried her half-dry hair with a towel. There were two intact envelopes on the table, but she ignored them and stared at her phone screen thoughtfully.

Five minutes passed, and the message "typing is in progress" kept appearing at the top of the chat box, but there was still no activity on the chat interface. She raised an eyebrow, too lazy to wait any longer, and sent a question mark.

The other party replied with a question mark instantly.

Belatedly realizing that her actions might have seemed like she was deliberately waiting in front of her phone to reply to a message, her rational side finally kicked in, and she moved her fingers to brush it off.

A cool breeze blew by, and she shivered. She got up and closed the window that wasn't closed properly. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of the coat hanging on the floor-standing clothes rack, and paused.

Turning her gaze away, You Congxi sat back down at her desk, her eyes fixed on the two letters, but her mind was filled with the scene of Shen Yue stuffing oranges into her pocket and telling lame jokes.

Fool.

Her lips involuntarily curled up for a pixel, then quickly returned to their normal shape.

The letter was an apology letter. You Congxi skimmed through it and then threw it into the trash can with little interest.

There's nothing to be angry about. If you take this kind of thing too seriously, you'd be driven crazy countless times over by now, and you'd probably die before you even came back to life.

But Shen Yue...

You Congxi thought of the new neighbor who had moved in. He felt like he had lost his mind, but at the same time he thought that the neighbor looked somewhat similar to Shen Yue, especially his eyes.

She unconsciously clasped her hands together and glanced at the drawer next to her.

If she wasn't mistaken, what she saw through the half-open door was the stair railing.

Has it been converted into a duplex?

You Congxi recalled a picture Shen Yue posted on his WeChat Moments, and the corner of the sofa that was vaguely visible seemed somewhat familiar.

The cell phone on the table buzzed.

[Rat Poison Cookies: I just found out about what happened in the group chat.]

[Rat Poison Cookies: Are they courting death?]

You Congxi knew that Qu Qi would be furious if she found out, and she would definitely do something like cornering her in the alley after school tomorrow and beating her up.

Before she could even formulate her words of advice, another message popped up.

[Rat Poison Cookies: Are they the two guys who delivered the letter to you?]

[Rat Poison Cookies: Why the hell are you chickening out now? Weren't you quite the troublemaker online?]

[Rat Poison Cookies: Don't let me run into them at school.]

You Congxi took a picture of the apology letter in the trash can and sent it to her, saying, "Calm down, I just glanced at it and threw it away."

[Rat Poison Cookies: This is how it should be done!]

[Rat Poison Cookies: But to be fair, Shen Yue did a good job this time, he didn't let his friend down.]

You Congxi's fingers twitched slightly, just about to reply with an "Mm".

[Rat Poison Cookies: But he's the one who started this whole thing, it's inhuman for him not to defend you. If he dares to do that, I'll show him what a Sanda champion is all about.]

You Congxi paused for a moment, then replied with an "Mm" a few seconds later.

After chatting for a few minutes, Qu Qi, in a panic, said he had to go do his forgotten Chinese homework. His phone, untouched for a long time, automatically turned off. You Congxi stared blankly at the grayed-out screen, a small black stain spreading from the tip of his pen on the paper.

Perhaps this is the truth.

You Congxi thought that life is not a TV drama, and she is not the sun; not everyone in the world will revolve around her.

She leaned back in her chair, her gaze tilted upwards, and could see a corner of the family photo lying on its side. She wondered if it was just her imagination, but it looked rather dull and dusty, perhaps even covered in cobwebs.

Calmly withdrawing her gaze, You Congxi sat up straight, opened the math test paper, took out a piece of scratch paper, and switched to a pressure pen to write the questions.

What does it matter? Isn't this what she wanted? Talking about liking or disliking is meaningless.

The room with the windows closed was like a tightly sealed vacuum box; the only sounds were soft, even breathing and the scratching of pens on paper.

You Congxi felt an unprecedented calm in her heart. During this period, she always felt that weeds had been planted somewhere in her heart, making her feel itchy and a little irritable. She couldn't figure out what it was, so she tried to ignore it and throw it to the ground.

But this invincible tactic doesn't seem to be working so well this time.

That damned pile of weeds burned and grew back, burned again and again, growing ever more luxuriant and escalating, making my heart itch with unbearable itch.

Thinking of this, You Congxi ground his back teeth; this feeling of having energy but nowhere to use it was truly awful.

She forced herself to do a few more problems, then slammed her pen on the table, abruptly pulled open a drawer, and gave it a cold, sweeping look.

The gaze freezes.

She curled the corners of her lips slightly and gave a cold snort.

"......"

When Shen Yue's message came in, You Congxi was writing a derivative problem while chewing on a bald stick that was no longer recognizable.

The trash can at her feet was scattered with tiny bits of green grass.

The foxtail grass rabbit in the drawer has disappeared, but if Officer Rabbit follows the clues, he should be able to piece together the whole case and bring the suspect, You, to justice.

It was clear that after the suspect, You, went berserk, he grabbed the victim, a rabbit made of straw, and proceeded to violently strip the green straw off the rabbit, leaving only the skeleton in his mouth.

There was no grass path left!

Officer Rabbit thought angrily.

Meanwhile, the suspect, You, continued to leisurely chew on a straw and casually glanced at his phone.

Then he froze.

Officer Rabbit looked over in confusion.

What happened? He was just acting all nonchalant. Could it be that he's being investigated across provincial borders?

It used all its strength, like someone eating grass, to climb up You's arm and get close to a huge, brightly lit screen—

【Daiy: Swimming Little Fish】

[Dai Y: Open the door for me]
