Chapter Three
We were too happy too soon.
You Congxi sighed, thinking that Shen Yue really had to get his revenge.
Even if it's done through a local proxy service.
Forget it, the sooner I die, the sooner I'll be reborn.
Just in case there was a possibility of someone with the same name, You Congxi confirmed it again: "Is it Shen Yue from No. 1 Middle School?"
Tianyan said impatiently, "Otherwise, which other Shen Yue is there?"
You Congxi: "Oh."
oh? ! !
She just said "oh?!"
Shouldn't they be so intimidated by the district bully's reputation that they immediately hand over all their money and beg for mercy?!
Tianyan and Mohican exchanged a glance, both seeing the shock in each other's eyes.
This woman is indeed extraordinary!
You Congxi discreetly surveyed the terrain and the two thugs, mentally assessing his chances of success in a counterattack—
"What do you want?!" "Drop your weapon!"
Accompanied by two angry roars filled with panic, You Congxi paused in mid-air while holding up his phone.
"Big brother, please don't kill me!"
I'll give you all the guns!
An eerie silence filled the air, and the male voice, tinged with a grotesque grin, grew clearer.
The Mohawk, gripping a knife and slashing at thin air: "..."
The Sky Eye, on high alert: "..."
You Congxi realized they had misunderstood something, smiled awkwardly, and wanted to say something—
"Depend on."
You Congxi tilted her head to dodge the sudden blade, and the cool breeze it brought made her break out in a cold sweat in the middle of summer.
Damn it, a surprise attack, no sportsmanship whatsoever.
She dodged a few times, but before she could turn off the music, the catchy, rhythmic, and provocative song continued to echo through the narrow alley.
Mohawk, blinded by rage, didn't care whether the person in front of him was a wolf in sheep's clothing or not. He exerted force with his hand, and a whooshing sound filled the air—
While swimming in the Congxi River, I tripped.
A flash of cold light passed before my eyes.
"ah!"
The mohawk-clad man supported his limp wrist, while his folding knife lay forlornly on the ground a few meters away, a testament to the immense force of the kick he had just delivered.
Tianyan was stunned by this sudden turn of events, watching helplessly as the girl, blood flowing down from her eyebrows, walked towards him step by step, like Sadako from a horror movie who had just eaten people.
He gripped the branch he'd picked up in the chaos, and as the girl drew closer, he swung it wildly in the air, his voice cracking: "Don't come any closer! If you take another step, I'll attack!"
The mohawk was still groaning in pain beside me. The phone had stopped playing, and any sound in the secluded and narrow alley seemed to be amplified infinitely.
Tianyan almost wanted to kneel down. His legs were trembling involuntarily, and he deeply regretted listening to Mohican's nonsense and coming here to cause trouble.
The girl's left cheek was pierced by a trail of blood, and her expression was obscured by the shadows, making her look like a vengeful spirit.
Black Impermanence slowly stretched out his hand.
"Sister, I was wrong, please forgive me, I was just momentarily infatuated..."
......
"Give."
?
The girl in front of him tentatively opened her tightly closed eyes a crack and saw the girl in front of him hand the thing in her hand forward again.
"......"
You Congxi took out a pack of tissues he bought from Tianyan for 500 yuan and wiped the blood off his face before walking out of the alley.
Qu Qi was afraid that her small arms and legs would be bullied, so he taught her a few moves and for a period of time forced her to be his sparring partner every day.
It only takes a few moves, but it's still quite effective.
You Congxi took out another piece of paper and pressed it against the wound near his eyebrow. The wound wasn't big, but it was a bit deep, and the blood was flowing out in a lot, which looked scary.
The throbbing pain in her waist and hips made her sigh. If the knife hadn't almost pierced her eye, she wouldn't have gone to such lengths to kick him.
Those two idiots, they won't take the money.
The phone in her pocket vibrated. You Congxi took it out with one hand, saw the caller ID, but didn't answer. She waited until the vibration stopped and the call ended automatically before slowly replying with a message.
We're almost there.
The other person replied very quickly.
Okay, be careful.
You Congxi stared at the sentence expressionlessly for a few seconds, then locked the screen, put the phone back in his pocket, threw the blood-stained paper into the trash can, and walked towards the bus stop.
It's hard to get a taxi here, and buses don't run very often. You Congxi sat on a bench at the bus stop waiting for a ride, with a ride-hailing app running, deciding which bus to take first.
She felt a tightness in her chest, her limbs felt like they were filled with lead, and her mind was screaming about a journey completely opposite to her destination, yet she found herself involuntarily boarding the bus that had already arrived at its stop.
When You Congxi knocked on You Yuanming's door, it was already completely dark.
"Why did it take you so long to arrive? Your Aunt Yu and I were so worried."
You Yuanming frowned and scolded her, but Yu Junya, who was carrying dishes out of the kitchen, smiled and smoothed things over: "Old You, don't scold the child as soon as we meet."
"Xiaoxi, you've come at the right time. Wash your hands and have some food."
After changing his shoes and saying hello, You Congxi was about to enter the house when he was hit squarely by a small cannonball.
"Sis! Why are you so late!"
You Congxi subconsciously reached out to steady the person clinging to her. The little girl with two braids buried her head in You Congxi's lower abdomen, took a deep breath, and said with her eyes half-closed, "Sister, you smell so good."
"Orange candy flavor!" You Youyi looked up and shouted at the top of her lungs, "Mom, I want orange candy—"
"What are you eating for?" Yu Junya stepped forward and gently patted You Youyi's head, scolding her, "You're so rude. I've never seen you so enthusiastic about practicing the piano. Go wash your hands and eat."
As she spoke, Yu Junya looked up and smiled at You Congxi. You Congxi politely raised the corners of his mouth and led You Youyi to wash her hands.
Outside, a couple was setting out the dishes. You Congxi stared at the two braids on the child's head and couldn't help but ask, "Who did your hair?"
Yu Youyi proudly tossed her head back, opened her mouth to answer, but her braid went into her mouth, and she spat it out several times.
You Congxi: "Like two broken jump ropes."
Yu Youyi jumped up and down: "Sister!"
The consequence of teasing the child was that You Youyi resolutely refused to eat next to You Congxi, this big devil.
You Yuanming found it strange: "Why isn't Youyou sitting with your sister today?"
You Youyi pouted, looked up and glared at him: "My sister said your hair looks like two rotten jump ropes, I hate you!"
You Yuanming was taken aback. Yu Junya, who was next to him, glared at You Youyi and said, "Youyou, you can't talk to your father like that."
You Yuanming quickly smoothed things over, serving his youngest daughter her favorite dishes and promising that he would practice his hair-tying skills diligently so that he could give Youyou the most beautiful braids in the world.
After coaxing the little one, You Yuanming made some witty remarks that made Yu Junya laugh heartily, and the atmosphere at the dinner table returned to its original harmonious state, making it look like a warm family dinner.
Yu Congxi continued to eat his meal awkwardly, occasionally glancing up to say a few words. He listened to the family of three next to him discussing their forest hike last weekend, praising Yu Youyi for her fearless performance at the piano competition yesterday, and listening to Yu Youyi make a wish for her birthday present next year.
Upon hearing this, You Yuanming picked up a shrimp and placed it in You Congxi's bowl, then asked with a smile, "Little Xi's birthday is coming soon, what gift would you like?"
You Congxi stared at the shrimp in the bowl for a moment, then replied slowly, "I don't know."
Yu Junya tugged at You Yuanming's sleeve and whispered, "Xiaoxi has already celebrated her birthday this year."
You Yuanming smiled awkwardly, took the soup bowl, and ladled a bowl of soup for You Congxi: "My bad, my bad, Dad got them mixed up. Our Xiaoxi's birthday isn't until next May, then Dad..."
“Dad is wrong again!” You Youyi frowned. “May 19th is my birthday, and my sister’s is April 19th.”
"......"
"Ouch! Why did Mom pinch my thigh?!" You Youyi's cry broke the silence.
Yu Junya: "..."
After finishing the meal in a lukewarm manner, You Congxi got up to help clean up, but Yu Junya stopped her and ushered You Youyi into the room together.
"Sister, let me show you my painting!"
Yu Youyi pointed to her most recent masterpiece on the wall and excitedly asked her sister to appreciate it as well.
Three stick figures holding hands, two big and one small, it's hard to tell what they're doing.
Under You Youyi's expectant gaze, You Congxi hesitated for a long time before cautiously saying:
"Yes, like Picasso."
Youyouyi didn't know who Picasso was, but she felt that her sister was praising her.
Kids are like dogs; they can't resist praise.
You Youyi was a little smug, feeling that her extraordinary painting skills had conquered the most discerning people in the world. So she took out her second masterpiece from the drawer and handed it to You Congxi.
“Sister, this is the first version.” You Youyi pointed to the stick figure on the far side. “This is you.”
You Congxi was taken aback.
"My art teacher asked us to draw a family portrait. I originally wanted to submit this one, but my mom said that drawing four stick figures would be too crowded and wouldn't look good. She told me to just draw three."
You Congxi didn't say anything, but ruffled You Youyi's hair, making the child stumble.
"sister!"
You Youyi was getting annoyed with her sister; she really didn't know where her small frame got so much strength.
The phone rang, and You Congxi picked it up and glanced at it.
Rat Poison Cookies: [Are you home yet?]
I am a fish: [Immediately]
Rat Poison Cookies: [This family's cookies are really sticky!]
Mouse poison cookies: [Mouse disgusted.jpg]
You Congxi chuckled. You Youyi thought her sister had fallen in love with her masterpiece, so she immediately and excitedly folded the first version of the family photo neatly and stuffed it into You Congxi's pocket.
You Congxi: "..."
Oh well, sometimes fools are just lucky.
She said goodbye to her mentally challenged sister, opened the door and walked towards the entrance. A few meters away from the kitchen at the corner, she could faintly hear a sound.
"...Did you see the wound near Xiaoxi's eyebrow?"
No, is it serious? Did you bump yourself somewhere?
"It looks like something scratched her. A child this age is in puberty; if she bumped into something herself, it's fine, but I'm afraid it was from a fight. I heard from my friend who's a teacher at the high school that Xiaoxi usually hangs out with some boys, mostly petty thugs..."
"I understand, I'll talk to her."
"There's something I'm actually not feeling well about. You know, Youyou was born prematurely, so her health isn't great, and she tends to overthink things. Xiaoxi said her hair is ugly; she's probably really upset about that. What if she gets health problems too? What am I supposed to do then...?"
You Congxi didn't listen to You Yuanming's coaxing words anymore. She quickened her pace and raised her voice slightly: "Aunt Yu, Dad, I'm going back now. I have class tomorrow."
A flurry of footsteps sounded, and the kitchen door was pushed open. Yu Junya smiled somewhat awkwardly: "You're leaving already? Let your dad see you off."
Before You Yuanming could speak, You Youyi, who appeared out of nowhere, interrupted him: "No! Dad promised to play Monopoly with me!"
"Youyou!" Yu Junya called out.
You Youyi glared back without the slightest fear.
You Congxi smiled, not wanting to linger any longer: "It's alright, Aunt Yu, I've called a car, I'll be going now."
-
It was getting late, and only a few stars were visible in the sky, a rare sight in the heavily polluted city of C.
You Congxi craned his neck to look at it for a long time, and only stopped when his back and hip bones started to ache today.
She didn't call a taxi; she planned to walk alone.
A slightly cool breeze lifted a few strands of hair from her forehead. She put her hands in her pockets, her fingers touched the paper, and she paused for a moment.
Walking towards the nearest trash can, You Congxi took the item out of his pocket and held it directly above the trash can.
A gust of wind blew by, and the small piece of paper swayed.
"Travel in Congxi?"
While swimming in Congxi, I was startled and almost fell into a trash can.
She put the paper back in her pocket and looked up at the source of the sound.
Several food stalls were lined up together, brightly lit, and everywhere you looked, shirtless men were drinking, their white skin gleaming.
Shen Yue stood not far away, his expression cold and aloof, completely out of place.
You Congxi felt the wound at the end of his eyebrow begin to ache again.
Across a narrow road, she met Shen Yue's gaze.
The next second, You Congxi turned and left.
