Chapter 348 Rage
It seemed to work. The boy looked at the dazzling face, his expression becoming dull and dazed, as if dazzled by the sudden bright light, and he even forgot to cry.
Unexpectedly, just as the savior finished speaking, a rumbling sound suddenly came from deep in the mine, so that the entire mine tunnel trembled and the small stones on the ground jumped.
The professor's pupils shrank sharply, and he nearly lost his balance, but luckily the wind held him steady. The child's eyes widened in terror, and deep within them reflected the already shaky stone cone above the abandoned mine. It swayed suspiciously in the violent tremors, and the next second, it aimed at the three people and fell down—
The blond young man remained motionless, still wearing that gentle smile on his face, though with a hint of sharpness.
The wind suddenly rose from under their feet, and the air flow seemed to have a will of its own, blowing away the turbid smoke and dust in the mine. The huge, sharp stone cone, about five fingers above their heads, silently shattered and disintegrated, turning into pieces of fine stone powder that fell to the ground, and was gently carried away by the swirling air flow. Not even a speck of dust fell on the shoulders of the three men.
"What happened?" After the noise passed, Nova stood up and subconsciously wanted to go to a deeper fork in the road to investigate. However, he stopped abruptly when someone glanced at him with a half-smile.
"...It doesn't look like a natural earthquake," the black-haired young man retracted his toes as if nothing had happened, and said expressionlessly, "The source of the sound is deep inside, and the energy is very concentrated... It's more like some kind of impact or explosion."
But what were these people crazy about? Doing this in an underground mine filled with coal ore?!
"Yes, someone is dead..."
The professor whipped his head around, his piercing, smoky-gray eyes making the child shudder. But he continued to sob and stammer, "I, I saw... they tried to stuff the glowing little stone into a man's body, and then, bang—"
He swallowed and said nothing more, his eyes full of fear, obviously frightened by the bloody and horrifying scene.
...trying to stuff jet into a person's body?
The professor frowned, and he and the savior looked at each other, and saw the coldness and seriousness in each other's eyes.
He quickly understood a possibility, an extremely absurd, cruel, and disgusting perspective - if jet essence can replace the sorcerer's driving magic circle, then in this end-of-law era where the gods have fallen and magic has withered, is it possible for this natural mineral to be directly implanted into the living body and become a new driving energy source... or even transform ordinary humans into "sorcerers" on the physical level?
The boy on the other side stole a glance at the handsome and powerful big brother with golden hair, and carefully offered him his hand. Azuka then held the dirty and cold little hand tightly and pulled him up from the ground.
"What's your name? Where's your mother?" he asked gently. "Why are you here?"
"My name is Cole, and my mother is in Crescent Castle..." The boy gradually calmed down, suppressing his tears and answering as clearly as possible: "Leo and I secretly went to play in a cave in the suburbs. We found someone holding a person with a black cloth covering his head and walking deeper into the cave... We tried to sneak away, but they found us. Then I knew nothing. I woke up in a pitch-black cave, and there were sparkling blue stones everywhere..."
...There are children? And there are other exits to the Crescent Moon Mine?
The professor frowned and asked, "Do you know where Leo is?"
As a result, the boy couldn't hold it in anymore: "Leo, Leo, he's dead... wuwuwu..."
He cried and wiped his tears, which mixed with dust and blood, making his face even dirtier. "My eldest brother taught me how to pick a lock. When the guards changed shifts, I ran out to find Leo, but he was lying in the iron cage, motionless... I touched his hand, and it was as cold as ice. Aunt Mary was like this when she died..."
Before he could think more, he was discovered by the guards and had to escape desperately. He relied on his thin body to allow him to squeeze through narrower gaps and ran to the entrance of the mine in a panic.
Azuka half-knelt down and patiently wiped his face with a handkerchief, which gradually calmed the child's sobs. "Cole, do you know how many people are underground?"
"Eight people." The boy counted on his fingers for a while and whispered, "Uncle is dead. Besides Leo and I... there are eight more people. Two of them are locked in an iron cage."
There weren't many people, probably because the coal concentrate had only been discovered in the Crescent Mine a short time ago. But based on the traces outside the cave, there were definitely more than just these few, indicating that people were regularly coming in to rotate troops and resupply supplies.
Azuka stood up calmly and gently instructed, "Cole, cover your eyes."
Cole stared at him blankly, but when those blue eyes looked at him, he shuddered and immediately covered his eyes obediently. At the same time, he felt that the surroundings seemed to become extremely quiet and he could not hear anything.
Blocking the brat's hearing and vision to prevent him from getting into trouble, Azuka shifted his gaze indifferently to the faces of the two dazed men.
He snapped his fingers, and one of them gradually regained consciousness. He glared blankly and angrily at the two strangers who had suddenly appeared. Just as he was about to threaten someone, an invisible air current grabbed his neck and lifted him up into the air. The veins on his forehead bulged from the suffocation, and his face flushed crimson. The fear of death brought terror and pleading to his eyes.
The Savior's voice remained soft and calm: "Next, we will ask questions and you will answer them. Do you understand?"
This person didn't know much, or rather, everyone in the Crescent Mine was just a bunch of minions following orders. According to him, "higher-ups" would regularly send people to check on the prisoners' health and repair the array used to prevent the explosion from spreading. Their job was to feed them, inject them with medication, place them in jet, and record the prisoners' changes in state before throwing them into the jet mine for "resonance."
"Who are those 'up there'?" the professor asked coldly. "There are still a few prisoners alive. Where are the two children?"
"I really don't know, sir!" Under the threat of death, the guy was so scared that he wet his pants and cried heartily, tears streaming down his face. "We only know that they are important people from Osiris City. This group of people are almost all dead. One of the two little devils struggled too hard and was accidentally killed by Old Kalu. The other one escaped, and I'm responsible for catching him..."
There's nothing more to ask.
Azuka twisted the two men's necks expressionlessly, letting the two bodies fall to the ground with their eyes wide open. He then looked at the black-haired young man beside him: "Sir."
Nova stared at him for a moment. He knew that this man, due to his past life experiences, had always deeply detested human experiments.
"Lure them out, interrogate them, and then kill them all," the professor said succinctly. "Based on our assumption, the people from 'higher up' won't arrive so soon. A delay of a day and a night shouldn't be a problem and won't affect subsequent plans."
Azuka's eyes softened for a moment. He glanced at Cole, who was huddled in the corner with his hands covering his eyes, and then he looked towards the dark mine with his eyes slightly closed.
Soon, four people, terrified by the illusion of a mine collapse, ran out in panic, like rats drawn out by smoke. However, what they saw was not an escape route, but two figures standing against the light.
"Sir, would you like to close your eyes too?" One of them turned slightly, as if not noticing him, and asked his companion in a gentle voice, "I'm afraid the scene that's about to happen won't be very pretty."
"Who are you?!" The leader, a sorcerer, snapped out of his trance and immediately raised his staff. The other party, however, made no extra move, simply casually raising his hand, pointing it at the four men, and then suddenly closing his fingers.
Phew.
The teeth-grinding sound of bones breaking and the soft muffled sound of internal organs being squeezed and exploding suddenly rang out. Except for the leader, the other three people were as if grasped by an invisible giant hand. Their bodies were instantly twisted and deformed, and blood mixed with broken internal organs spurted out of their mouths and noses. They didn't even have time to scream before they fell to the ground like rag bags.
“Ah, ahhhhhhhhhh!”
This bloody and horrifying scene, seen before the survivor, was like being struck by a massive hammer. He let out a shrill scream, even dropping his staff as he tumbled back toward the collapsed mine. But the wind, the ever-present wind, became a prison from which he could never escape.
The contents extracted from the utterly devastated leader were largely the same as before, save for the connection to Marquis Ravel—a fact that came as no surprise to either of them. Azuka stood calmly amidst the blood, his golden hair spotless in the sunlight, his handsome face expressionless as the leader's body fell silently at his feet.
The Savior has always hated the smell of blood, even when it comes to killing people - he can resort to such cruel means, obviously he hates these people to the extreme.
He closed his eyes, as if listening to the movements underground: "...There are no living people underground."
The professor responded, ignoring the corpses on the ground. He was squatting beside the leader's body, searching it, trying to find some clues - and he actually found one. The black-haired young man undressed the leader and took out a small photo stone from the inner pocket of his coat. It was in the "off" state.
"...'Shelter' Company." He said coldly.
It's very sophisticated and the latest model, something these relatively modest people couldn't afford. Was it purchased specifically for Osiris City? Or... is the "Protector" company also involved?
Azuka took it and examined it carefully. When he started, he had paid special attention to whether any of the people had active recording devices.
Then he skillfully pulled off his enemy's blood-stained gloves, helped him wipe his hands carefully, and took out a new pair of gloves from his arms and put them on him. His movements were smooth and flowing.
"Can I, can I open my eyes?" A child's timid voice sounded from the corner. The two looked in the direction of the voice, and Cole was still hiding in the corner obediently, but he was trembling because of the increasingly strong smell of blood in the air, and seemed more and more uneasy.
"Not yet," Azuka said gently, gently taking the child's hand. "Cole, come with me. Don't open your eyes until I tell you to."
He led the child and the professor out of the mine filled with corpses, turned sideways to block the bloody view, and then let out a soft and strange whistle.
Not long after, the dragon arrived. Cole opened his eyes and stared blankly at the white dragon in front of him, his mouth gradually opening wide.
"Dragon, dragon--" he stammered, especially when he saw the giant dragon intimately put its head close to the blond young man's face and let the latter touch its nose with his hand, its eyes widened and its mouth opened even wider.
"Don't be afraid, dragons are our friends." The savior said softly, "Cole, can you wait here for a while? We will take you to find your mother later."
The child nodded timidly and watched the other party walk towards the mine that was like a devil's cave in his mind.
"He went to clean up the scene."
Cole froze for a moment, then looked up at the black-haired young man standing beside him. The other person's voice was as cold as ever, but after calming down, the boy vaguely sensed a hint of kindness in it, which made him less afraid of this person.
The professor suddenly froze for a moment, and a small hand carefully grasped his fingertips, but when it found that the dust and blood on its hands had accidentally stained his gloves, it let go in panic.
"I'm sorry..." the child stammered uneasily.
"...It's okay, just catch it if you want." The professor felt a little uncomfortable. He was not very good at getting along with creatures like children who were mostly driven by instinct.
After thinking for a moment, he added stiffly, "It's the cub's instinct to stay close to adults when they encounter danger."
